Bharat Arun joins Sri Lanka's coaching drive with specialized pace bowling camp
Colombo [Sri Lanka], May 31 (ANI): Bharat Arun is set to become the latest in a growing list of renowned Indian coaches leading specialised training programmes for Sri Lanka's top cricketers, reported ESPNcricinfo. Starting June 2, Arun will oversee a 14-day camp focused on improving the skills of Sri Lanka's fast bowlers across both junior and senior levels. 'Aimed at further enhancing the standards of Sri Lankan fast bowlers across junior and senior squads at the high performance centre,' a Sri Lanka Cricket press statement on Friday said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. The programme will be held at the High Performance Centre. Arun previously served as the bowling coach of the Indian men's team from 2014 to 2021. This initiative follows similar efforts by other Indian coaches. Earlier in May, former India fielding coach R Sridhar conducted a ten-day training camp. Last year, Rajasthan Royals' Director of High Performance, Zubin Bharucha, led a short-term batting programme in Sri Lanka. These coaching stints have all taken place under the leadership of Sanath Jayasuriya, who currently serves as head coach. '(Arun) will work with the Sri Lanka national men's and women's teams, the women's 'A' team, the U19 men's team, coaches of the high performance centre, club and provincial coaches, and coach-educators during his stay here in the country,' the SLC statement said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. 'He will conduct separate strategy sessions with the men's red-ball and white-ball teams, hold technical and skill-based training with fast bowlers, hold video and performance analysis sessions with players and coaches, and also match scenarios to develop 'game' understanding,' the statement added. Sri Lanka failed to qualify for this year's Champions Trophy. (ANI)

Bharat Arun to conduct 14-day specialised programme for SL men's and women's teams
New Delhi: India's former bowling coach Bharat Arun will conduct a 14-day specialised training programme for both top men's and women's cricketers in Sri Lanka. Arun recently completed a stint as the fast-bowling coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2025. In a statement on Friday, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said Arun's programme will aim at enhancing the standards of Sri Lankan fast bowlers across junior and senior squads at the High-Performance Centre from June 2, where he will start training the U19 national team. He will also work with the national men's and women's teams, as well as the women's 'A' team, the U19 men's team, coaches of the High Performance Center, club and provincial coaches, and coach educators during his stay in Sri Lanka. 'Arun, who served as the bowling coach of Team India from 2014 to 2021, will conduct separate strategy sessions with the men's red ball and white ball teams, hold technical and skill-based training with fast bowlers, hold video and performance analysis sessions with players and coaches, and also match scenarios to develop 'game' understanding,' added the SLC. Arun's camp in Sri Lanka comes before the men's team host Bangladesh for an all-format series at home, while the women's side fine-tunes its preparation for the Women's ODI World Cup, to be held later this year in India. Since 2024, SLC has brought in foreign coaches to run short programmes. Last year, they roped in Rajasthan Royals' high-performance director Zubin Bharucha to conduct a brief programme in raising their batting standards. Recently, SLC brought former India fielding coach R Sridhar, who held the role from 2014 to 2021, to conduct a comprehensive 10-day fielding programme for their men's and women's teams emerging squads, premier club players, national U19 team, and women's 'A' side.

IPL 2025: KKR speedster Vaibhav Arora credits Bravo, Arun for his recent success in death overs
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 27 (ANI): Kolkata Knight Riders speedster Vaibhav Arora has credited team mentor DJ Bravo and bowling coach Bharat Arun for his recent surge in dominance in the death overs in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Vaibhav has slowly shaped himself as skipper Ajinkya Rahane's go-to bowler with his clinical and tenacious spells in the death overs. He has started to unfurl into a specialist with his recent performances. Vaibhav scythed a scalp each for the defending champions in the last two fixtures while trying to keep a lid on the opposition's scoring rate. During Kolkata's fixture against Punjab Kings on Saturday, Vaibhav was handed the responsibility of bowling the penultimate over, and he embraced the opportunity with open arms. He conceded just nine runs, and with his slower-ball leg-cutter, he lured the dangerous Marco Jansen to hole it straight to vice-captain Venkatesh Iyer at long-on. "I am working with DJ sir and Bharat Arun sir on death bowling during the practice sessions, and I am getting the result for it," Vaibhav told reporters at the post-match press conference. Despite a drop in the run rate towards the end, Punjab managed to stroll to 201/5, setting a daunting task for Kolkata to chase down. Before Kolkata could fathom a formula for success, rain pelted down heavily at Eden Gardens, forcing the fixture to be washed away. Vaibhav decided to dwell on the positives and remained hopeful that the one point could play a role in their attempts to defend their crown, and added, "Unfortunately, the match didn't take place; it is better to take one point than nothing. There might be a scenario where we could qualify with one point. We will take it in a positive way." Kolkata occupy the seventh spot with seven points, still four away from toppling Punjab out of the fourth spot. Their woes have come down to the shambolic batting display, with Rahane being the sole warrior. The 27-year-old addressed the lacklustre performances with the bat and vowed that his side would make efforts to refine it in the remaining fixtures, and added, "We are bowling well, but we are lacking in batting. We will try to bowl well and improve our batting." (ANI) First Published: 27 Apr 2025, 10:38 AM IST
