Just after midnight, a post appeared on his Facebook account stating his intention to end his life. In the same post, he held his wife and her family responsible for his decision. Police investigations reveal that the deceased was married six months ago in what was a second marriage for both partners. Despite setting up a salon for his wife at their residence, she often chose to stay at her parental home, which reportedly led to marital tensions. No bail for Ghaziabad pastor, aide arrested for ‘religious conversion'

The Ghaziabad District Court on Tuesday rejected the bail application of a pastor and a Ghaziabad resident who were arrested for allegedly attempting to convert members of the Scheduled Caste by offering them inducements. Police had arrested two men, pastor Vinod Kunj Mohan (50) and Premchand Jatav (66), following a complaint filed by Bajrang Dal member Prabal Gupta on June 15. He had alleged that the pastor carried out religious conversions at Jatav's home. During Tuesday's hearing, Ghaziabad Additional Session Judge Rohit Aggarwal said that there is no relevant ground for releasing the pastor. 'Keeping in view all the facts and circumstances of the case and in the light of the gravity of the crime and various documentary and oral evidence collected during the investigation against the accused, Vinod Kunj Mohan, there is no relevant ground for releasing the applicant on bail,' read the order. 'Accordingly, the first bail application of the applicant is liable to be dismissed on merits,' it added. While rejecting Premchand's bail plea, too, the court said that there were no relevant grounds for his release. The two were booked under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(3) (threats involving death), 352 (breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021. During the hearing, Mohan's lawyer had submitted before the court that his client had never converted anyone. 'There is no proof of his involvement, and the complainant, who is an active member of the Bajrang Dal, has falsely implicated him in the case,' he had told the court. 'The FIR is to gain political benefits,' he had added. The lawyer had further submitted that no recovery of any item was made from the place where the alleged conversions took place. 'When anyone is converted, writings and readings are involved… but nothing was found,' the petitioner had told the court. Neetika Jha is a Correspondent with The Indian Express. Congress MLA's son booked for attempting to run over on-duty cops with SUV in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: A Congress MLA's son has been booked for allegedly attempting to run over on-duty police personnel with his speeding SUV in Alirajpur district of western Madhya Pradesh. The FIR was registered on July 13 under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (attempt to murder) and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984, against Pushpraj Singh Patel – the son of first-time Congress MLA Sena Mahesh Patel. The Alirajpur district police superintendent Rajesh Vyas said that the FIR has been registered based on the complaint by a constable who sustained injuries in the July 12–13 intervening night incident. However, the accused Pushpraj Singh Patel's father, Mahesh Patel (former Alirajpur district Congress chief), claimed the incident was a mishap and alleged that the police had framed it as an attempt to murder case under political pressure. 'It was a mishap and not an intentional crime as alleged in the complaint. My son lost control of the vehicle while taking a turn. The constable sustained minor injuries only, and the Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP), who too was present at the spot, subsequently took the injured constable to the hospital from where the constable was discharged after primary treatment,' he said. 'My son is being targeted in a false case of attempted murder under political pressure. We'll soon petition the MP High Court and get the FIR quashed,' he added.

In one year, Chandigarh sees more than 200 immigration fraud cases, with total scam money worth more than Rs 40 crore

Since the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on July 1, 2024, Chandigarh has witnessed a spike in immigration fraud incidents, with 200 cases being registered till June, 2025, while nearly 60 FIRs have been registered in the last six months only, and an amount of more than Rs 40 crore has been reportedly involved in it. According to the Chandigarh Police website — as of now only 429 immigration companies are registered in the records of the UT police, whereas more than 500 companies are running illegally without permission. In 2024, the police identified 42 such firms involved in immigration fraud and most of them were set up in sectors 17, 22, 34, 36, 37, 39, and 40, and the Chandigarh Police had last year arrested around 100 owners of different immigration firms for running their businesses without obtaining valid permission from the UT administration. Investigations have revealed that most accused were running illegal immigration consultancies without mandatory licenses. Victims — often aspiring to go abroad for work or study — were lured with false promises and charged hefty fees. In several cases, individuals were defrauded of Rs 15–30 lakh. In some instances, more than 100 people were duped by a single racket. Many fraudsters accepted money on the pretext of sending people to countries like Canada, Australia, and European nations for jobs or higher education. The accused collected money in cash or through bank accounts and later disappeared, sold assets, or shut offices without informing the investors. To prevent future fraud, the UT police has launched a verification drive to identify unlicensed or fraudulent agents operating within Chandigarh. A police official said that action will be taken under the Immigration Act against those found violating norms. Police have also appealed to the public to verify immigration consultants through government portals before making any payments or signing documents.
