NIA Raids 15 Locations Across 8 States In Pakistan-Linked Espionage Case

Last Updated: Initial findings suggest that the individuals under investigation had acted as financial intermediaries and had direct or indirect connections with operatives working for Pakistan. In a significant counterintelligence operation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted searches at 15 locations across eight states in connection with an espionage case involving Pakistani intelligence operatives. The raids took place in Delhi, Maharashtra (including Mumbai), Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Assam, and West Bengal. The operation targeted people suspected of having links to Pakistan-based intelligence agents. During the searches, NIA teams recovered a range of digital devices, sensitive financial records, and other incriminating evidence. These materials are currently being analysed for information that could further expose a suspected espionage network orchestrated from across the border. Initial findings suggest that the individuals under investigation had acted as financial intermediaries and had direct or indirect connections with operatives working for Pakistani intelligence. These suspects allegedly facilitated the flow of sensitive information in exchange for money, thus posing a threat to national security. The case—registered as RC-12/2025/NIA/DLI—was initiated by the NIA on May 20, following the arrest of an individual accused of leaking classified national security data to Pakistani operatives since 2023. Investigations revealed that the accused had received funds through multiple domestic channels for his involvement in the information leak. The case is being probed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. The NIA has stated that its investigations are ongoing, and more arrests and searches may follow as the agency works to dismantle the espionage network. First Published: May 31, 2025, 23:55 IST

Noida cop murder case: Ghaziabad police announces rewards for those on run

The Ghaziabad police on Saturday announced a reward of ₹25,000 each for information leading to the arrest of four absconding suspects allegedly involved in the mob attack that led to the killing of Noida police constable Saurabh Kumar on the night of May 25 in Nahal village, officials said. A seven-member Noida police team had arrived at Nahal village around 11pm on May 25 to arrest Qadir, who was a suspect in the theft of a music system and ECM from a Verna car. The theft allegedly occurred on the night of May 2–3, and a first information report (FIR) was lodged at Phase 3 police station in Noida on May 21 against an unidentified person. The Noida police, in their FIR lodged at Masuri police station in Ghaziabad on May 26, stated that they were attacked twice by a mob that resorted to indiscriminate firing, during which Constable Saurabh was shot in the head and killed. 'The CCTV footage which we recovered has indicated that there were about 25–30 persons in the mob. They resorted to pelting stones at the police team. The videos available with us to date show that no one had any firearms or weapons with them,' said Surendra Nath Tiwary, DCP (Rural Zone), Ghaziabad. Tiwary added that 15 people, including Qadir and his brother Adil, have been arrested, while four others remain absconding. 'We have announced a reward of ₹25,000 each for their arrest,' Tiwary said. The Ghaziabad police maintained they were not formally informed by Noida police about the operation. They also said that only one bullet casing was recovered from the scene, even though Saurabh was shot from close range, according to the autopsy report. 'So far, we do not have evidence that could indicate that any of the arrested suspects fired a shot at Saurabh. Our investigation is continuing with eight teams, and we have roped in informers to locate any other video footage or clues,' Tiwary added. The FIR has been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including murder, attempt to murder, rioting, assault on public servants, criminal conspiracy, and criminal intimidation, along with provisions under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.

According to the FIR filed by the victim's brother at Morbi Taluka police station, police called him to the hospital on Thursday night, where he met his sister-in-law. She told him that she had returned home from work that evening and saw blood inside their room, with the victim's clothes lying around and her daughter nowhere to be found. She suspected sexual assault, as her husband had molested her daughter earlier. She flew into a rage, pushed her husband to the ground and kept kicking him in the chest till he lost consciousness. Her daughter told her in sign language that the deceased had raped her at knifepoint. The GRD jawan then called the police. Police arrived and found that the man had died. They sent the body for a postmortem and took the 24-year-old woman for a medical examination. S K Charol, inspector of Morbi Taluka police station, said, "We are yet to arrest the accused. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The police filed additional charges under the Prevention of Atrocities Act, as the victim belongs to a Scheduled Tribe, along with sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. According to police officers, the accused principal resides at Police Line Road, Pathardi, within the jurisdiction of Indiranagar police station. The authorities reported that the principal allegedly pulled the victim's "dupatta", touched her inappropriately, and solicited sexual favours repeatedly between Aug 5, 2024, and April 29, 2025. Following the initial complaint, three additional students from the same institution came forward with similar allegations. The accused appeared before a city court on Saturday and was placed in police custody for two days until Monday. Law enforcement officers indicated that separate arrests would be made for each of the four registered cases. The authorities observed that the complainants know each other, suggesting that the first complaint might have encouraged the other three students to report their experiences with the principal.
