ICEA, IT Ministry urge states to make India a component manufacturing hub
New Delhi: States should work together and leverage Centre's scheme for encouraging domestic manufacturing of electronic components to make India a global hub of components manufacturing, the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) said on Friday. Various states such as Tamil Nadu, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh are coming up with their own policy for encouraging components manufacturing in their respective states. In an industry event in Andhra Pradesh, Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary, MeitY, emphasised the government's commitment to fostering domestic electronics manufacturing through a hybrid scheme which offers Capex support and turnover linked incentive for components manufacturing. He appealed that states have to play a proactive role in this mission of making India a component manufacturing powerhouse for the world. Bhaskar Katamneni, Secretary, IT & EC, state government, unveiled the draft Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy (ECMP) at the event to encourage manufacturing of electronics components in the state. 'We are not only promoting ease of doing business but also enabling the 'Speed of Doing Business'. Andhra Pradesh is crafting a more competitive and agile policy framework compared to the national landscape,' said Katamneni. He said that the Andhra Pradesh-ECMP will be notified in the next 10 days. Additionally, he also discussed on the draft policy and its offerings, like catalysing investments across the component manufacturing value chain through 50 per cent capex support for components manufacturers in the state, turnover linked incentives doubling the centre's incentives, building specialised infrastructure and plug-and-play clusters, and enabling talent development, skilling and R&D support. Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman, ICEA said that now is the time that industry should proactively resolve for high domestic value addition in the country and build a robust supply chain for electronics manufacturing. The event was attended by senior government officials from Ministry of electronics and IT and the state, along with manufacturers, industry leaders and other stakeholders of electronics ecosystem.

AP showcases investment potential in electronics manufacturing
Tirupati: Andhra Pradesh is fast emerging as a prime destination for investments and industrial growth, especially in the electronics manufacturing sector. The Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) and Andhra Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy draft workshop in Tirupati held on Thursday was aimed at giving a further boost to this sector. The one-day workshop was jointly organised by the IT, Electronics & Communications (ITE&C) Department, AP Economic Development Board, and the India Cellular and Electronics Association. The workshop saw participation from key dignitaries including Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and IT, who stated that the Government of India is actively promoting electronics component manufacturing through Production Linked Incentives (PLI) and other incentives. He lauded AP's proactive efforts and underlined the strong demand for electronics components in the market. Speaking at the event, Secretary of ITE&C Bhaskar Katamneni highlighted that the state government under the leadership of the Chief Minister is committed not only to 'Ease of Doing Business' but also to 'Speed of Doing Business.' He emphasised the abundant opportunities in the state for setting up industries and expressed confidence that Andhra Pradesh is crafting a more competitive and investor-friendly electronics policy compared to the Central Government's framework. Bhaskar revealed that the state is aiming to localise production of electronic components, which are currently being imported, and is formulating a forward-looking policy to attract manufacturers. Plans are already underway to establish 25 percent of these units in the southern Rayalaseema region. Tirupati EMC-2 cluster and the Kopparthy EMC are being positioned as key hubs for this expansion. Highlighting the state's industrial readiness, he mentioned Sri City, where more than 200 industries are operational and contributing to significant employment. Andhra Pradesh boasts superior infrastructure with robust road, rail, airport, and port connectivity. Reaffirming the state's commitment to transparency and technological governance, he said Andhra Pradesh is leveraging AI, IoT, drones, and WhatsApp governance for effective administration. As the state works toward its Vision 2047 goal of becoming a $2.4 trillion economy, it aims to harness not just IT but a range of industrial sectors to meet national targets.

Andhra fast-tracks work on India's first quantum computing village in Amaravati
The Andhra Pradesh government has taken another vital step towards establishing India's first 'Quantum Computing Village' in Amaravati, with a high-level meeting convened at the State Secretariat under the supervision of the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) on Tuesday. The proposed 50-acre facility in Amaravati, already announced by the state government earlier, will be designed as a pioneering ecosystem to advance research, development, and collaboration in the field of quantum computing. The recent meeting focused on finalising infrastructure, ecosystem design, and technical requirements for the project's players, including representatives from IBM, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Larsen & Toubro (L&T), engaged in in-depth discussions on the upcoming campus. L&T is set to construct an Iconic Building, which will house advanced quantum systems to be provided by IBM. The facility is intended to be expandable to meet evolving technological needs over the coming decades. Bhaskar Katamneni, Secretary of RTGS, emphasised the project's scale and ambition. 'This Quantum Village will be a world-class facility: India's window to the future of computing,' he said. He added that the campus will feature a dedicated on-site data centre for high-performance computing, and a collaborative ecosystem where institutions and companies can access and share cutting-edge quantum computing resources. The initial setup will include IBM's Quantum System Two, with infrastructure specifications to be finalised jointly by IBM and PS, IAS, Special Secretary, noted that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to fast-track the project and ensure timely Gumann from IBM Quantum, USA, delivered a detailed presentation on the IBM Quantum System Two, outlining the system's technical and infrastructural prerequisites. AP govt's initiative to develop India's first Quantum Computing village in Amaravati
Vijayawada: Taking a significant step forward in realising its vision of building India's first Quantum Computing Village, the Government of Andhra Pradesh held a high-level meeting today under the aegis of the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS). The 50-acre facility in Amaravati, already announced by the state government, is envisioned as a pioneering ecosystem for quantum computing research and collaboration. The latest meeting focused on infrastructure planning, ecosystem development, and technical alignment for the prestigious project. Representatives from IBM, TCS, and L&T participated in detailed deliberations. Key highlights of the discussion included the design of an Iconic Building to be constructed by L&T, housing advanced quantum systems provided by IBM, with a possibility of expanding the facility for decades to come. Bhaskar Katamneni, Secretary of RTGS, shared key details of the planned ecosystem, highlighting that the Quantum Computing Village will feature a landmark Iconic Building, conceptualised by IBM. The facility is envisioned as a collaborative ecosystem where institutions and companies can access and share advanced quantum computing resources. It will also include a dedicated on-site data centre to support high-performance computing needs. IBM and TCS will jointly finalise the infrastructure specifications, with the initial setup set to host the IBM Quantum System Two. 21.16 acres allotted to TCS to set up IT campus in Vizag
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APIIC) has identified 21.16 acres of land parcels at IT Hill No.3, in Visakhapatnam to allot to TCS for establishment of IT Campus with an investment of Rs 1,370 crore and employment potential for 12,000 persons. The APEDB, after evaluating the proposal, has recommended the land allocation to the State Investment Promotion Committee (SIPC) for necessary approvals. Accordingly, the proposal was placed before the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting held on April 10. The SIPB, based on the recommendations of the State Investment Promotion Committee (SIPC) in its meeting held April 1 decided to allot the land. 'The SIPB, after deliberation on the proposal of M/s Tata Consultancy Services Ltd approved allotment of 21.16 acres in IT Hill No 3 to M/s Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. The Government after careful examination of the proposal and keeping in view the recommendations of the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) and the Council of Ministers approved the allotment of land for the entire 21.16 Acres at 99 paisa. The VC & MD, APIIC was requested to take necessary action in this matter. Bhaskar Katamneni, secretary to the Government issued the orders in this regard on Monday. Visakhapatnam (Vizag) has emerged as a prominent IT hub, thanks to its strategic location, excellent connectivity, and well-developed infrastructure. Government is trying to attract major IT giants and inviting to set up their offices for creation of jobs and overall economic development of the region.
