Thirty illegal Bangladeshi nationals including three children held in Delhi's northwest
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has detained 30 Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the city's Bharat Nagar area, an official said on Friday. Based on a tip-off about illegal migrants involved in suspicious activities including begging at traffic signals, a special team conducted a surveillance operation throughout May and carried out surprise raids. "Teams rounded-up suspects from various localities. All 30 people were found to be Bangladeshi nationals who had entered India illegally through porous borders with the help of agents," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh said. The officer said that during interrogation, the accused including -- 12 women, 15 men, and three children --admitted to sneaking into India without valid documents. Many of them have been staying in Delhi for several years. They were attempting to merge with the local population by taking up odd jobs and begging at traffic intersections, he added.

Shopkeeper assaulted on claims that he was selling ‘cow meat' near Delhi University's North Campus
A mob assaulted a 44-year-old shopkeeper near Delhi University's North Campus on Wednesday, claiming that he was selling cow meat, The Indian Express quoted the police as stating. The police said they had received a complaint from a 15-year-old boy about cow meat being allegedly sold at a grocery shop located in Vijay Nagar in the Model Town area. The boy said in the complaint that he had purchased meat from the shop, called 'North East Store' and owned by 44-year-old Chaman Kumar, who is a resident of North Delhi's Burari. 'Upon suspicion of cow meat being sold, some members of the public manhandled the shopkeeper,' the police stated. 'He has been provided medical assistance and his medical examination is currently underway.' The police also said that ' meat samples have been seized and sent for forensic analysis to determine whether it is cow meat', according to Hindustan Times. In videos of the purported incident circulating on social media, the mob can be heard shouting, 'those who kill cows should be shot'. The Students' Federation of India, the student wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), claimed in a video that the mob that had attacked the shopkeeper, who is from the North East, was also threatening to raid the homes of students from minority communities. Deputy Commissioner of Police Northwest Bhisham Singh later said the situation was brought under control. One held for duping woman of Rs 13L on pretext of job
NEW DELHI: A 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly duping a woman of Rs 13.21 lakh on the pretext of providing her a job in the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The accused, identified as Bhupender Guru of Sultanpuri, had even sent a fake appointment letter to the complainant via mail using a fake DMRC email ID, police said on Wednesday. The police had launched an investigation into the matter after receiving a complaint in this regard from the woman, who is a resident of Model Town. After the cops identified and nabbed the accused, they recovered from his possession the original academic mark sheets that the complainant had shared with him, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh said. Bhupender confessed to the crime during the interrogation and said he cheated the woman to get easy money that could help him lead a flamboyant life, the DCP said, adding that efforts are under way to ascertain his possible involvement in similar cases.

Man beaten up on allegation of selling ‘cow meat' at shop near Delhi University's North Campus
A group of people beat up a shopkeeper in Vijay Nagar near Delhi University's North Campus, accusing him of selling cow meat at a grocery shop, late Wednesday evening, police said. Police added that a sample of the meat from the shop has been sent for forensic examination. A purported video of some people protesting outside the shop and raising slogans surfaced on social media on Wednesday. Another video also surfaced where a woman can be heard stating that some people attacked a shopkeeper who is from North East India. Leaders from the Students' Federation of India also reached the spot. Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Bhisham Singh said at present, the situation is under control. 'Once the forensic report and full enquiry are complete, appropriate legal action will be taken as per the findings and provisions of law,' Singh said. According to a statement from the police, a complaint has been received regarding the sale of suspected 'cow meat' at a grocery shop located in Vijay Nagar in the Model Town area. The complainant is a 15-year-old boy and alleged that he purchased the meat for Rs 400 per kg from the said shop. The shop is owned by Chaman Kumar (44), who is a resident of Burari in north Delhi. 'Upon suspicion of cow meat being sold, some members of the public manhandled the shopkeeper. He has been provided medical assistance and his medical examination is currently underway,' police said in its statement. The police added said that CCTV footage from the area is being collected and reviewed to verify the sequence of events. In a statement, SFI said, 'SFI Delhi condemns the cow vigilantism that is occurring in Vijay Nagar. We appeal to law enforcement authorities to take strict and immediate action against the perpetrators who have attacked a North-eastern store and are threatening to raid the homes of minority students in furtherance of their vigilante agenda. SFI stands against the attempts to further communal agenda within localities and neighbourhoods, instead reiterating principles of inclusivity and pluralism.'

Cops thwart kidnapping bid of four-year-old child
New Delhi: Three vigilant police officers on Sunday thwarted a kidnapping attempt targeting a 4-year-old child in northwest Delhi's Keshavpuram area. The suspect—identified as Govind from Balrampur, UP—was spotted following a police alert. Deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Bhisham Singh reported that authorities received information about the incident on Sunday. "The public, noticing some suspicious activity, raised an alarm on time," Singh stated. "Swiftly responding, sub inspector Harish Kishan and constable Sachin of the PCR van initiated a chase. Head constable Amit from Keshavpuram police station observed the situation and joined the pursuit. " After being cornered by police, Govind threw the child onto the road in a bid to escape. However, the PCR staff and local police successfully apprehended him. Police said the minor boy was rescued and safely reunited with his family, and the legal action is underway. During interrogation, Govind confessed he had no prior relationship with the child and intended to sexually assault him. Police further revealed that Govind is a habitual offender with a previous case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act at Model Town police station. Further investigation is underway.
