Harsha Bhogle Brutally Trolled For Defending Jasprit Bumrah Amid Backlash. But Why?

Last Updated: Harsha Bhogle questioned the incessant trolling of Jasprit Bumrah during the five-match Test series between India and England. Harsha Bhogle, the voice of cricket, extended support to India's premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah who found himself caught in a social media storm of criticism for his absence from two out of five Tests in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England. Even before the exciting Test series commenced, BCCI, along with captain Shubman Gill, Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, and Bumrah himself, had decided that the 31-year-old bowler would only feature in three Tests to manage his workload. The backlash around Bumrah's absence only grew louder as the series progressed, and Bumrah was released from the squad ahead of the fifth and final Test at The Oval between India and England, when the visiting side was down 1-2. However, a subsequent report in TOI revealed that Bumrah had suffered a minor knee injury, keeping the NO. 1 ranked Test bowler away from action. Bowls More Overs… 'Really?? Trolling Bumrah? Hope you aren't among those but If you are, fair to say you have no idea of what you have to endure to become a Bumrah. And you have no appreciation for one of India's greatest matchwinners who, as it turns out, bowls more overs than almost any other bowler, (sic)" Bhogle shared with his 9 million followers on the Elon Musk-owned social media website. What seemed like a straightforward, no-nonsense remark to back the best bowler in the business turned into a social media circus soon after. Fans Unhappy The cricket commentator's seemingly harmless post defending his own did not go down well with social media commenters who asked Bhogle if Bumrah was immune to criticism. 'Hypocrisy at its peak You guys were the one to troll Virat kohli your best player. When you didn't find any flaws in his game you started trolling him for losing toss & Now Just because someone is raising question towards Bumrah's fitness & workload you have problem with that, (sic)" responded one user to Bhogle's post. 'No, we are not trolling – just raising questions about workload management. Is even that considered wrong?" wrote another to which Bhogle responded by saying, 'No, that is fine. But remember, each body is different and you can't have a one size fits all solution (sic)." Kohli Fans Join A section of X users and Kohli fans accused Bhogle of not supporting Kohli when the former India skipper was experiencing a lean patch in his Test career. 'Really love the way you're taking a stand for Bumrah here. But if I remember correctly, you never did this when Kohli was getting trolled from every side despite him being one of our biggest match-winner. Oh sorry, you were the one who fueled the hate train. Funny (sic)." Another user, quoting Bhogle's post defending Bumrah, wrote: 'Hypocrisy at its peak You guys were the one to troll Virat kohli your best player. When you didn't find any flaws in his game you started trolling him for losing toss & Now Just because someone is raising question towards Bumrah's fitness & workload you have problem with that (sic)." 'Where was this statement from him when Kohli was getting dragged 24/7 inspite of being out biggest match winner? Oh wait, he was busy making excel sheets," chimed in a third user. Others, however, backed Bhogle and suggested that the furious Kohli fan army take a chill pill. Bumrah, in a heartfelt Instagram post, reflected on the series that produced several moments of brilliance on the cricket field between the two highly competitive nations and the 25 days of Test cricket that turned into an enthralling away series for India. 'We take back great memories from a highly competitive and enthralling test series! Looking forward to what's next," the bowler captioned his update. View this post on Instagram A post shared by jasprit bumrah (@jaspritb1) His post raised eyebrows online when the cricket lovers and trolls wondered why Bumrah had made no mention of his teammate Mohammed Siraj who was instrumental in India drawing the dramatic series 2-2 against England. Siraj picked up a total of 23 wickets, 9 of which came in the final Test that helped India win the thrilling match by 6 runs, thus squaring the exceptional series. Cut Him Some Slack Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik urged critics to cut Bumrah some slack, saying it wasn't his fault that India did not win when he played for the team. 'Now this stat of when he doesn't play, India win. It's not his mistake. He is so impactful that others pale in comparison at times, which is understandable. He is a world champion. It's not easy and sometimes I feel we have to cut him some slack as well," Karthik said while speaking to Cricbuzz. Also Read: 'Cut Him Some Slack': Dinesh Karthik Hits Out At Jasprit Bumrah's Critics In a Reddit video, Sachin Tendulkar highlighted Bumrah's 14 wickets in three Tests that he featured in. 'Bumrah started well, got five wickets in the first innings of the first Test. He did not play the second Test, but played in the third and the fourth. Again, in (one of) those two Tests, he got (a) five-wicket (haul)," Tendulkar said while speaking on Reddit. Former Aussie legend Glenn McGrath said that Bumrah needed an off-season as his bowling action and workload had overwhelmed his physical well-being. Below Par Former India all-rounder rated Bumrah's contribution in the three Tests he featured in and rated him 6/10. top videos View all 'Bumrah will get six out of ten. Why? The reason is that when you are a senior player, there is a lot of responsibility on you to win matches. He played in three Tests, and India did not win any of them," Pathan said on his YouTube channel. 'There were moments, like when a sixth over was needed. I spoke about this during commentary as well. Joe Root had been dismissed by him 11 times, and in that Lord's Test, Bumrah bowled five overs. Just one more over, the sixth, could have pushed harder. I felt he held back a little there. There was also some pick-and-choose, which I have always been against, and that was visible too," he added. HC denies bail to key conspirator in 2011 murder of Bhandup eatery

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court has denied bail to Amit Madhukar Bhogle, alleged gang leader and key conspirator in the murder of Bhandup-based Chinese food stall owner Suraj Mehra, observing that there was material to show his active involvement in the 'well planned' murder, falling squarely under the provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). (Shutterstock) Mehra, also known as 'Nepali', was attacked on October 4, 2021 by Sachin Dhananjay Kulkarni alias Chingya and Piyush Priyadarshan Naik while he was heading back home with his friend after closing his eatery. Though his friend survived the attack, Mehra succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at Mulund General Hospital. The Bhandup police investigated the case initially before it was transferred to the Mumbai crime branch. The police alleged that Mehra and his friend were attacked by members of an organised crime syndicate and Bhogle, arrested on September 28, 2021, was the key conspirator. During the probe, the police found that Bhogle had planned Mehra's murder in collusion with other co-accused including Ramchandra Raut alias Kaka, who coordinated with assailants like Rahul Jadhav, Umesh Kadam and Sushil alias Sada Sawant. The police later invoked the MCOCA against Bhogle and the other co-accused, claiming that the gang led by him was involved in at least 34 criminal cases, among which he was named in 14 cases. Advocates Sana Raees Khan and Sumit Sharma, representing Bhogle, submitted that invocation of the MCOCA against him was legally untenable and unjustified, as there was a delay of nearly one year in granting approval for applying the law. They further contended that there was no material on record to substantiate the allegation of Bhogle being a 'gang leader' or his involvement in the conspiracy or execution of Mehra's murder. Additional public prosecutor Veera Shinde emphasised that Bhogle's conduct was established by a continued criminal tendency. He had long-standing enmity with Mehra and had planned the latter's murder to assert his dominance and control over the locality. There was sufficient prima facie evidence to indicate that Bhogle was not only a conspirator but also played a key role in orchestrating the offence through his gang members, the prosecution said. The material collected by the investigating agency revealed Bhogle's deep-rooted criminal background and his active participation in the offence, they added. The single judge bench of justice Amit Borkar rejected Bhogle's bail application, saying his involvement in the offence did not seem to be merely incidental or peripheral, but integral and connected to the planning and execution. Mehra's murder was meticulously planned and Bhogle had shared pictures of the deceased's mutilated body, the court noted. 'It is particularly disturbing that the accused allegedly shared a photograph of the deceased, showing grievous injuries with his intestines protruding, immediately after the incident, which indicates lack of remorse and a sense of impunity,' the court said. Bhogle was a habitual offender with a long-standing criminal background and the alleged murder fell squarely within the definition of 'continuing unlawful activity' under the MCOCA, the court held.

'India's Bowling Stronger...': Shubman Gill And Co Receive Big Verdict For England Test Series

Renowned cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle believes that the Indian cricket team bowling attack is currently stronger than their batting ahead of the five-match Test series against England. The side, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, will start their campaign in England on June 20. Bhogle, who will be heard on On Sony Sports Ten 1 & Ten 5 channels, said that India's batters are largely untested in English conditions and as a result, he believes that the bowlers are slightly ahead. However, he added that the series will be a golden opportunity for all the Indian batters to step up and prove their mettle as the side will be missing the star power and experience of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. "With India, I actually think the bowling is stronger at this stage. I hope they get to a stage where I am proved wrong and that the batting shines again - Yashasvi and Rahul have a great partnership, Gill gets into form, Pant gets back to the format he is best at. Look- I think, the No Virat Kohli situation… in the minds of many people, we had started getting used to a scenario when he won't be around. 2 years before Tendulkar finished you knew that the change was going to come, you had started to get your mind around the fact that he may not be there. The great thing about this sport is, great players go and then great players come in.. that is the one thing we must be excited about in this series…how are all these players going to take one step up in their career," Bhogle told NDTV. When it comes to India's bowling, Bhogle explained that Bumrah will make a huge difference in English conditions and even tipped the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna to perform well. "Largely because India' s batting is untested in these conditions. That is my view at the moment. I am waiting to be proven wrong.. it is the start of the series. Since Bumrah is around, even when he is not playing he will make a huge difference. I am very happy that you made a mention of the two names we do not talk about their stellar careers- Shami and Ashwin. In Siraj, another player we don't talk often about, may not be enough of a box office material, but he has been fantastic over the years. Prasidh Krishna is full of promise.. I liked what I saw of Akash Deep in Aus. These conditions might favour him. Sourav Ganguly has spoken about Arshdeep the pitch is dry, Kuldeep will come in."

Suryakumar Yadav holds umbrella for broadcaster in unusual post-match scenes as rain disrupts presentation ceremony

Mumbai Indians registered a brilliant win over Delhi Capitals on Wednesday night to clinch the last remaining playoff berth in IPL 2025. Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged the player of the match, as he smashed an unbeaten 73 off just 44 balls, and as he arrived for the post-match interview, he reserved a rather heartwarming gesture for the broadcaster, Harsha Bhogle. As the drizzle fell over a roaring Wankhede Stadium, Suryakumar offered to share the umbrella with Bhogle, and the broadcaster happily obliged. After 13 matches in IPL 2025 without the award, he finally held the trophy in his hand as Bhogle began the interview. The Player of the Match was well-earned. Mumbai were struggling at 132/5 after 18 overs before Suryakumar unleashed a blitz. His unbeaten 73 off 44 balls, laced with powerful lofts and late flicks, came alive during a 57-run stand with Naman Dhir in the last two overs; a phase that yielded a jaw-dropping 48 runs. 'Was important for a single batter to bat till the end,' he said. 'We knew there was one over of 15–20 runs somewhere, so we had to wait till the end. The way Naman came in and shared that energy with me was also a turning point.' Delhi Capitals, needing to win to stay alive in the playoff race, never recovered after early jolts and crumbled for 121. Jasprit Bumrah (3/12) and Mitchell Santner (3/11) dominated with the ball, sealing a 59-run win and Mumbai's 11th playoff qualification – the most by any team in IPL history. For all the big hits and wickets, though, it was that moment under the umbrella that won over the fans. The rain began soon after the match ended, staying true to the predictions of a late-night shower. Thankfully, the weather stayed clear throughout the match. Mumbai now travel to Jaipur to face Punjab Kings on May 26 in their final league fixture, with hopes of sneaking into the top two. The top-4 lineup is confirmed, with PBKS, too qualifying for the playoffs. Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru were the other two teams who had already qualified for the playoff spots.

RCB fans plan all-white tribute to Virat Kohli in Bengaluru, Harsha Bhogle responds

Harsha Bhogle has responded to the Virat Kohli tribute being planned by RCB fans for the game against KKR. Kohli, on May 12, announced his decision to retire from Test cricket ahead of the England tour, bringing down the curtains on an illustrious career in the longest format of the game. In a bid to pay tribute to the star batter, RCB fans urged the crowd to come for the game at the Chinnaswamy stadium against KKR on May 17, wearing white jerseys/t-shirts to show their appreciation towards Kohli and what he has done for the Indian team in Tests. advertisement"For the next RCB match, could you help spread the word and encourage fans to wear Test whites in the stadium as a tribute to Virat Kohli? He made so many of us fall in love with Test cricket, and even though I'll never get to see him play in whites live, I just want him to know how deeply loved he was in his favourite format. This gesture could be a powerful way to show that his legacy goes far beyond stats - it lives in the hearts of think about it and help us make it real. It would mean the world to many of us. I even made a template. I also think we can raise fund to give away the jerseys outside Chinnaswamy. That's our best chance. Even if not jerseys, plain white t-shirts should do," read the statement from RCB fans. advertisement Bhogle responded to the initiative and said if they can pull it off, it would be a sight to behold. "Hey @RCBTweets fans, are you planning to turn up in white for the game on the 17th? Remember seeing a post suggesting that. It will be incredible and a sight for the ages if true and if you can pull it off," said Bhogle on X. 'Only danger'Bhogle said that the only danger with the idea will be for the batters when they try to pick the ball from the background if it is all white. "Only danger is that picking the ball in a white backdrop will become very difficult," said Bhogle. RCB will be restarting their campaign with the game on Saturday as the IPL begins once again after the one-week hiatus. Tune InTrending Reel IN THIS STORY#IPL 2025
