During his time with the Buckeyes, Caffey rushed for a total of 66 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown in a 77-21 win over Toledo on Sept. 17, 2022. YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown State football held its annual Red-White Spring Game with the offense coming out on top 34-18 on Saturday at Stambaugh Stadium. Watch the video above for highlights from today's game and to hear from head coach Doug Phillips and quarterback Beau Brungard. The scoring began when former Niles star and sophomore running back Antuan Gardner plunged his way into the end zone. 'You know, this spring, this a fun time. I said it's time to go out and entertain, we want to make plays today,' head coach Doug Phillips said. 'We've worked hard to really work on that discipline and consistency, and we got to continue to do that because in our league, that's what wins and loses games.' Later, Beau Brungard would connect with Slippery Rock transfer and Farrell native Kylon Wilson on a 90-yard touchdown. Wilson finished the day with three catches for 148 yards and a touchdown. 'I'm happy with our offense and how far we've come, starting from the ground up, all new terminology, all new plays, all that. I'm really proud of the guys and how they took the extra time to get in the facility, watch extra film and just learn the playbook from the ground up,' Brungard said. 'I'm happy with how far we've come. We're not there yet by any means, but I'm happy with how far we've come.' Brungard, a three-time Big 22 Player of the Year at Springfield, would add another touchdown pass to Luke Hensley right before halftime. 'I saw our kids grow throughout spring. I saw them get better. I saw them get stronger and we're not done yet. We got to continue to work May, June and July,' Phillips said. Although the red team would go on to win, the defense won a tiebreaker after the game to be crowned the Spring Champions. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
