Ed Sheeran suffers fall live on stage before making tour admission

Ed Sheeran was left red-faced after falling over on stage during the opening night of his Mathematics Tour in Madrid, having wowed fans at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend Ed Sheeran's European tour kicked off on a rather flat note... and that is not referring to his vocals. The Grammy-winning star took a spectacular tumble on stage in front of thousands of fans during his performance in Madrid on Friday night. At 34, Ed has managed to sell out two concerts at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, which can accommodate over 70,000 fans when filled to capacity. Luckily for Ed's international fans, they can still join in the fun each night thanks to the internet, but unfortunately for the star, this also means his embarrassing moments are immortalised. ‌ Videos taken by those present at the concert show Ed energetically sprinting onto the stage and doing a lap, urging fans to clap before his next song. However, his enthusiasm seemed to get the better of him, resulting in Ed ending up face down on the floor. ‌ Being the professional he is, he quickly got up and started strumming his guitar as if nothing had happened, laughing off the mishap. As fans behind their cameras also giggled, Ed shook his head, launching into his 2017 Divide album hit Castle on the Hill. Responding to clips of the incident, one fan joked on X about the gig: 'He had to be iconic from the start.' Another said: 'He's so cute, hope he's ok.' A third tweeted: 'LOL it's starting well', as a fourth wrote: 'LOL Poor thing, he's excited, leave him alone!' ‌ After his record-breaking gig, Ed shared a video on Instagram where he basked in the applause from the packed stadium, visibly overwhelmed and emotional. His heartfelt caption read: 'First show back for Mathematics in a long time. Honestly I get so low confidence sometimes in the music I put out still, I dunno how to explain it but I feel moments like this remind me how much I love what I do, and how much these songs connect, and how much I appreciate you guys for making me feel this feeling I've felt on stage since I was 11.' 'I love being on the road and sharing these moments with you,' he added. 'Such an incredible night and an incredible feeling, thank you for making me feel so loved Madrid. See you tomorrow x'. ‌ Ed's 2025 Mathematics Tour will see him play in 13 European countries this summer, with the set including his biggest tunes as well as tracks from his upcoming album Play, which lands in September. The hitmaker's popularity is clearly showing no signs of dipping, as he also sent fans wild with a surprise show last weekend. Following rumours of a 'big name' taking to the stage at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Liverpool, Ed showed up on the New Music Stage on Saturday afternoon, saying he chose the stage because he'd 'never played it before' and the tent had 'the best energy'. ‌ Ed's set was so popular that access to the tent had to be temporarily restricted as it reached maximum capacity. Also performing at Big Weekend was Stargazing singer Myles Smith, who is supporting Ed on his tour. Ed first burst onto the music scene in 2011 and has gone on to sell over 200million records worldwide. ‌ Speaking recently about his future, he revealed his plans to call it a day after releasing 10 unique studio albums, drawing inspiration from filmmaker Quentin Tarantino. "I wanted to do 10," Ed shared on Jimmy Fallon's talk show, expressing his fascination with Tarantino, who he heard was making 10 films alongside side projects like Grindhouse. Ed's initial series of albums followed a mathematical theme, with titles such as Plus, Multiply, Divide, Subtract, and Equals. Deviating from this pattern, he now plans to include Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind, and Stop - an idea he's harboured since he was 18. In addition to this, the father-of-two, who tied the knot with childhood love Cherry Seaborn in 2019, is also continuously working on a life-spanning album, set to be released posthumously.

Alison Hammond met up with Luke's parents, Yvonne and David, at their home in Aberbargoed (Image: BBC ) "I knew I was different, I didn't know I was gay," he explained. "I just knew I was different from the ages of 7, 8, 9, you know, very young." He continued: "I also didn't have anyone outside the religion to be able to confide in or ask what was wrong. "I've been baptised in the religion and that meant if I chose to be openly gay, I would be cut-off from everyone and everything I knew." Luke admitted that the experience was "very complicated" and "very confusing". He said: "I felt very, very isolated." Luke Evans was raised as an only child but wished he had siblings (Image: BBC ) Alison then asked if he had reached a "dark place", to which Luke replied with: "Oh god, yeah. My teenage years, when it was clear in my mind who I was, and I was just… I had no-one to talk to. "It was a very difficult position, place to be. Yeah, I contemplated suicide for sure." ‌ He continued: "It was not a nice place to be, especially at that young age. But something stopped me." "What do you think stopped you?" Alison asked. "Well," he began. "I think because I thought, what am I missing out on if I do this? ‌ "What life have I got that I haven't discovered yet that I have to live? And I think it was, like, needing to know what my life would be like once all of this was over." He said: "I did want to have a sibling because I was bullied really badly, so I always see my friends who had big brothers and big sisters in school, and they'd always look out for them, and I didn't have anyone like that.' Luke then described the bullying as "horrible". He added: 'But I knew it would be over at some point because I was going to leave school. ‌ "I had absolutely no intention of staying on. "So yeah, I left home at 16." Luke spoke candidly about his childhood, specifically the bullying he faced and the difficulties of growing up as gay and being a member of the Jehovah's Witness community (Image: BBC ) ‌ When asked if he hadn't been bullied, would he have been a different person, he replied: "I probably would have been a different child. "I would have done A-Levels and possibly have had better grades, but by the time I was like 14, 15, I was just like get me out, get me out". He continued: "All I wanted to do was get a job." ‌ As they made their way through Aberbargoed, the actor agreed that it was a "nice" feeling returning to his beloved hometown in Caerphilly borough. "I'm not somebody to hang on to the negative things that have happened to me in life," he said. "Good memories make you feel way better than bad ones." ‌ A bit later, the two met up with Luke's parents, Yvonne and David, who offered Alison some Welsh cakes. When asked what he was like as a young boy, his mum Yvonne explained he was a "full house". She continued: "The minute he was born, and came home from the hospital, it was like 'oh!'." ‌ She then added: "But you were full of fun because the house was always full of friends. "And the front room was sort of separate, and the laughter that used to come out of that room. It was wonderful, wasn't it?" Luke then showed Alison where his old room used to be, which was now the spare bedroom. ‌ As the two sat on the bed and looked out through the window to the valley, Luke discussed his childhood even further. "Were you quite an awkward kid?" Alison asked him. "Yes, I don't think I was very comfortable in my own skin," he replied. "I was a skinny little kid too". ‌ He continued: "I think because I was bullied, you can start thinking you are the problem. "And I think I definitely went through that. You know, I wasn't very confident as a kid "The confidence came as a teenager. As soon as I left school, actually. But school was not a pleasant place". ‌ The actor also agreed that he faced a challenging time due to not being able to talk about the fact that he was gay. "I didn't speak to anyone until I was 14 and I went to a psychologist because I wanted to ask them what was… - because I had no-one to talk to. "And she offered me a 14-week course at £200 a session, at like 14. And I went, 'no, no, no, I need help today'. And she said, 'well, I can't help you'." ‌ Following the candid conversation with Luke, in which he spoke about contemplating suicide, Alison said: "It was definitely an emotional moment." She continued: "Even at your darkest moments, there's still hope. You can still be okay. "I mean, thank God that he held on, because he has brought so many people so much joy purely by just being himself." Vernon Kay seeks diagnosis with Tess Daly after 'feeling terrible' on air

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Vernon Kay has confessed to feeling "terrible", suspecting that he's been "diagnosed by the nation" with a potential health issue. During his stint on BBC Radio 2, Vernon revealed that he was feeling a "bit ropey" yesterday. This led the 51-year-old presenter to admit that he suffers from an allergy to seafood. This means that Vernon is unable to consume prawns or cockles - a variety of small edible shellfish. He claims to have discovered this allergy after undergoing a test. However, Vernon suspects he might need another test, as listeners have expressed concerns about his health. He shared this revelation after playing a jingle promoting the BBC iPlayer coverage of Radio 1's Big Weekend. It's estimated that around 100,000 people flocked to Liverpool's Sefton Park for the three-day festival last weekend. The line-up included performances from Tom Grennan, Mumford and Sons, Biffy Clyro, and Wet Leg, reports the Manchester Evening News. (Image:) Vernon said: "Radio 1, how are you feeling? A bit ropey, no, honestly, terrible, I'm sure I've eaten a prawn or a cockle. I'm allergic to cockles. When asked if it has been a "big problem", Vernon replied: "It's not like I stumble upon a pot of cockles on a regular basis, but you know when you do one of them tests where they check your blood. "I did it ages ago but I'm going to do another one because I talk about it on the radio and a lot of people think I might be lactose intolerant. Honestly, I've been diagnosed by the nation without having a face-to-face consultation. "Tess Daly from Strictly Come Dancing is going to do one and I'm going to do one as well. The last one I did, yeah, cockles." (Image: Getty Images) When asked if he had ever had a cockle, Vernon replied: "No. It's like dipping your foot in a pool of lava. 'Oh, I know that's dangerous, why don't I try it?' "Winkles were very popular on the beach at Blackpool and I think my mum and dad used to like them with a lot of vinegar, not for me. In the polystyrene cups you used to get winkles and cockles and clams and all that kind of stuff." Vernon found love with Tess Daly as they both seized the spotlight on competing broadcasters—Vernon on Channel 4 with T4 and Tess on ITV's SMTV Live. Their romance flourished, leading to their wedding on 12 September 2003 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Horwich, just outside Bolton. The power couple now enjoy family life in Buckinghamshire alongside their daughters Phoebe, 20, and Amber, 15. Following Ken Bruce's departure in 2023, Vernon Kay took over the mid-morning slot on Radio 2, having previously filled in for presenters like Rylan Clarke and Zoe Ball.
