Saturday Kitchen star reveals terrifying robbery as thieves broke into his house with a CHAINSAW
SATURDAY Kitchen star Big Zuu shared the moment he was caught in a terrifying robbery. The TV chef, 29, revealed thieves broke into his house with a chainsaw when he was just nine years old. 5 5 The Saturday Kitchen star spoke about his life-changing trip to Sierra Leone where he experienced the harrowing break-in. He began: 'My scariest experience (in Sierra Leone) is probably when I first went, first time I was in my granddad's house. We got metal bars on the window. Some brothers cut through with a chainsaw. 'They cut through the metal bars and jumped in the yard and tried to rob us. They heard my mum was in town they're like, 'hey, an English woman in the vicinity'. "So word got around. My granddad lived in a normal part of Freetown, it's not the worst, but it's not the best and yeah they cut through the bars." The star then went on to explain what scared them off, saying: 'We had a mad dog, like proper serious pagan dog. So, when they heard the dog they cut out. I was in bed, I was with my granny, I was nine, bro. I was nervous.' Big Zuu appeared as Michael Dapaah's special guest in the first ever live version of Michael's digital series, Comfortably Speaking, which was held last week at White City, London. In front of a live audience, Big Zuu discussed everything from his first love and getting married at the age of 22 down to experiencing his life-changing trip to Sierra Leone. Born Zuhair Hassan, Big Zuu is a British rapper, grime MC, songwriter, DJ, chef and TV personality from West London. As well as being a member of the MTP crew, which stands for My Team Paid, he is a TV chef. Julian, who grew up in Australia, began dancing at the age of 10 and has represented his country at international level in both ballroom and Latin styles. He's appeared as a professional on three seasons of Dancing With The Stars Australia and has toured worldwide with Burn The Floor. He also competed on the Australian edition of So You Think You Can Dance. Big Zuu began his TV career with the 2020 Dave show Big Zuu's Big Eats. The series saw Big Zuu and his two friends, Tubsey and Hyder, cook for different comedians while touring the UK. The star went on to present Big Zuu's Breakfast Show on Sunday mornings throughout the summer 2022 on ITV. Other shows he has appeared on include game show Guessable, Celebrity MasterChef and Netflix's Bear Hunt. Since 2024, Big Zuu has hosted ITV's 12 Dishes in 12 Hours and also regularly appears on BBC's Saturday Kitchen. Whilst he has kept his romantic life out of the spotlight the star revealed on Comfortably Speaking that he got married at the age of 22, meeting his first love at 17. He said: 'I was 17 when I met my first partner in college and we were together for seven years. 'So, I was definitely in love. She was with me throughout the entire beginning of my career. "From when I was in college spitting bars at blue chairs trying to impress her to when I actually was doing tours and stuff. 'I met her in college, we were mad cool, and then one day I was like, 'do you want to be my wifey?'. We got Islamically married, real life. "When I was young, the most searched thing about me on Google is 'Big Zuu married'. Speaking about marriage in the future, he said: "It was beautiful, getting married is a beautiful thing. I'd definitely get married again.' 5 5 5

Sunday Brunch guest rushes off set as host asks 'are you leaving us'
Sunday Brunch star Big Zuu was forced to make a quick exit from the Channel 4 programme as he raced to Glastonbury to perform with rapper AJ Tracey The Sunday Brunch set was one guest down midway through the show, as Big Zuu made an early exit to dash for Glastonbury. The rapper, 29, returned to the programme to present his quirky culinary creation: a "lasagne on pizza". Eager to get moving, he breezed through his cooking demonstration, quickly making an exit to catch his ride to the iconic festival. Big Zuu kicked off the show with Jim Moir, Aisling Bea, Nick Helm, Fuse ODG, Damon Hill, and Such Brave Girls duo Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson. But as he was mid-preparation of his unique lasagne-pizza fusion, Simon interjected to query: "Are you leaving us after this?", reports the Manchester Evening News. "I have to go yeah, I can't stay," admitted Big Zuu. "I'm going to Glastonbury." With a chuckle, he added: "I've got to go to Glasto and find myself." He shared that he was set to rock the stage with AJ Tracey, planning to head out from the Channel 4 set in his tour bus. Big Zuu revealed: "I'm going to travel three hours for ten minutes [on stage]," while flaunting his all-ready wristband ahead of his 8pm slot. "You've got time," Tim chimed in encouragingly, with a confident Big Zuu responding: "I'll make it." Despite the rush to Glastonbury, recently notching up a goal at SoccerAid, and launching a Sky series with AJ Tracey, Big Zuu claimed during other parts of the show that his schedule was remarkably clear. "This is the first time in my life I'm actually doing nothing, I'm just going to chill," he declared. "I'm going to find myself, it's really good, it's nice to chill, I get to do lots of fun stuff, I like relaxing and just working on me." Later in the programme, Kim Sadler from Such Brave Girls disclosed her notes about the show with the remark: "Zuu bunked off for Glasto," hinting that the star had taken time off prior to the break for the festival.

Recipe box launches The Bear inspired range that will help charity
Recipe box Gousto has announced the launch of 'The Bare', a new limited-edition recipe range that pays homage to dishes from Chicago-based, fan-favourite TV show The Bear, set to return for its fourth series later this month. But behind the recipes lies a more urgent purpose: raising money for Trussell to support people who'd otherwise go without the bare essentials this summer. The initiative comes as Trussell's 'The Cost of Hardship & Hunger' report reveals that a record 1 in 7 people across the UK now face severe hardship, including 6.3 million adults and 3 million children. Over the summer, food banks in the Trussell community are expected to support a child with emergency food every 41 seconds. Orders from 'The Bare' range will help Trussell support families. 'The Bare' features three recipes inspired by the hit culinary TV show: Chicago-Style Beef Sandwich & Fries, Friends & Family Spaghetti with Mozzarella Garlic Bread, and even THAT viral Crisp-Topped Omelette with Fries & Salad. Gousto has transformed the cult favourites into simple, stress-free meals with easy-to-follow recipe cards and pre-measured ingredients. Timo Boldt, Founder and CEO of Gousto, said: "Ensuring more families have access to fresh, good food has always been part of our purpose to have a positive impact on people and the planet. With this screen-worthy recipe range, we're making it easy for food lovers to recreate cult-favourite dishes at home, while supporting the vital work of food banks in the Trussell community". Gousto has also partnered with Big Zuu to launch 'The Bare'. Big Zuu said: 'Getting behind 'The Bare' was a no-brainer for me. It's about more than just flavours; it's about making some noise for people going without the basics. I've always believed good food should be for everyone, and teaming up with Gousto and Trussell on this campaign means we're getting real support to families who need it. And if you're asking – THAT Crispy Omelette with Fries is my go-to. It's easy, full of flavour and the ultimate comfort food.'

Martin Compston 'gutted' not to play but praises 'brilliant' Soccer Aid
Martin Compston admitted he was 'gutted' not to feature in Soccer Aid but praised a 'brilliant' victory for his rest of the world side. Sunday's match at Old Trafford, which saw an England team of former professionals and celebrities take on Soccer Aid World XI FC, raised more than £15m for the aid organisation. Last Of Us star Bella Ramsey joined this year's England team along with comedian Paddy McGuinness, former Manchester United player Gary Neville and singer Tom Grennan. Former Rangers star Jermain Defoe bagged a brace, while Wayne Rooney and Toni Duggan also netted for the hosts. The game ended with a 5-4 win for the Soccer Aid World XI team, with the final goal being scored by rapper and TV chef Big Zuu. Among the stars of the game was former Argentina and Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez, who scored four goals in fifteen minutes to swing the result in favour of the World XI. Prior to lifting the trophy in the air, singer Robbie Williams – who co-founded the charity game in 2006 – announced this year's had raised £15,280,163. Actor Martin Compston, who was part of the World XI's backroom staff, admitted he was gutted not to play but praised the game's 'good entertainment'. 'It's always good to beat the English on their home turn but it was brilliant, fair play to the team, what a comeback', he said. 'We knew we had the beating of them second half because we hung in there, they usually start with their strongest team and ours is usually the second half. 'Second goal, half time, took the wind out our sails a wee bit, but I mean, when you have Carlos Tevez up front, you've always got a chance. Big Zuu ,what a winner! 'Brilliant, it was good entertainment, great fun. 'Honestly, I'm gutted I can't play. I'm grateful I get to be working, with insurance and stuff, so I can't play. So I mean that's devastating. 'Look at this pitch – it's beautiful. I mean, it's a dream to play in front of 70,000 people, so I was gutted for that. But I was actually more nervous on the sideline because you feel like you can't affect the game, and you know, 3-0 down, you start to worry a bit, but once we got that first one, I thought we were alright, so it was brilliant.' Since the fundraising match was first founded nearly two decades ago, it has raised more than £106m.
