Bihar Election: Where Will Chirag Paswan Contest From? Posters Drop Big Clue
Last Updated: Chirag Paswan may contest the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections from a general seat, sparking speculation and local mobilisation with posters promoting him as Bihar's "hope". Political temperatures in Bihar are soaring ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections, and at the centre of the rising heat is a familiar name, Chirag Paswan. The union minister and chief of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) triggered a fresh wave of speculation by signalling his intent to contest the upcoming elections, possibly for the first time from a general seat in the state Assembly. This move, if confirmed, could reshape the contours of Bihar's electoral battlefield. The speculation gained traction after a social media post by Jamui MP and Paswan's brother-in-law, Arun Bharti, said, 'When the leader is of the whole of Bihar, then why should the scope of the seat be limited?". He further urged that Paswan should contest not from a reserved seat, but from a general one – framing him as the pan-Bihar alternative and a unifying figure beyond caste lines. 'The workers also feel that this time @iChiragPaswan ji should not contest from any reserved seat in the Bihar assembly elections, but from a general seat – Chirag Paswan is now the hope of the whole of Bihar, not just one community," Bharti said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Within hours, the streets of Patna and Sheikhpura were dotted with posters heralding the arrival of what supporters have dubbed the 'future of Bihar". The messaging was overtly ambitious and emotionally charged, 'Chirag is the name of Bihar's hope… only he can stop migration, provide employment, and reform the health system." The posters featured slogans such as '169 Sheikhpura Vidhan Sabha is waiting for you" and 'When the leader belongs to all of Bihar, why limit the seat?", reflecting a clear push from within the party's ranks. The posters were credited to Imam Ghazali, Sheikhpura district president of LJP (Ram Vilas), hinting at growing local-level mobilisation and enthusiasm for Paswan's entry into the state legislative fray. Though an official declaration is still pending, the groundwork is visibly being laid. Speculation is not confined to Sheikhpura alone. Other constituencies being whispered in party circles include Danapur, Hajipur, and key general-category seats in Patna. Insiders believe Paswan's potential entry is a calculated move, intended to expand his support base beyond his traditional Dalit constituency and solidify his image as a statewide leader with developmental credentials. His oft-repeated mantra, 'Bihar First, Bihari First," is being touted as the ideological cornerstone of this push. His political stock has risen considerably after the 2024 elections, where LJP (Ram Vilas) managed to win five Lok Sabha seats, bolstering Paswan's influence within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The party is now eyeing a significantly larger share in the Assembly, reportedly staking claim to 40 seats, many currently held by the Janata Dal (United), a senior NDA ally. Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal added a layer of legitimacy to the ongoing buzz by publicly supporting Paswan's right to choose his electoral path. 'Everyone has the right to make the best decision for themselves and their party," Jaiswal remarked, describing Paswan as a leader who is 'doing well" and hinting at an emerging consensus within NDA ranks, though the seat-sharing deal remains under negotiation. Political analysts view Paswan's interest in a general seat not just as symbolic outreach but also as strategic positioning within the NDA. It could give him greater leverage during alliance talks and offer his party an enhanced profile on the state Assembly map. Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress have reportedly begun reassessing their campaign strategies, with sources admitting that Paswan's rising popularity, especially among young voters and first-time electors, could complicate their arithmetic. Gopalganj (Bihar) [India], June 1 (ANI): Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor said on Sunday that it is a good thing, if Union Minister Chirag Paswan becomes active in Bihar Assembly politics. On the possibility of Paswan contesting the Bihar Assembly elections, Kishore told reporters, '...He (Chirag Paswan) is a part of the NDA and every person is free to contest elections. If Chirag Paswan contests the elections, it is a good thing for Bihar... If Chirag Paswan becomes active in Bihar Assembly politics, it is a good thing.' Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Arun Bharti on Sunday hinted at the possibility of Union Minister and party president Chirag Paswan contesting the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Bharti also revealed that during a recent state executive meeting, party leaders formally proposed that Paswan consider a larger role in Bihar politics. 'Chirag Paswan ji has said from every platform that Bihar is the centre of my whole of Bihar loves him. We had given him a formal proposal in the state executive meeting that he should come to Bihar and think about playing a bigger role. We are conducting a survey. The result of that survey will come, and if everything goes well, then I think that in the coming time, Chirag Paswan ji will seriously consider all these things and think about coming to Bihar and contesting elections,' Bharti said. Highlighting Paswan's commitment to Bihar, the LJP leader said, 'He is working for the Biharis and does all his politics by focusing on his vision for Bihar. Will it not be right that Chirag Paswan ji raises his voice from the Bihar Assembly and realises the vision of Bihar First, Bihari First.' There is, however, no official confirmation that Union Minister Chirag Paswan will contest the election. Earlier, Chirag Paswan asserted that there is 'no vacancy' currently in Bihar for the post of Chief Minister, and incumbent Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will lead a strong NDA government after the Assembly polls. Tej Pratap breaks his silence a week after expulsion from RJD
Former Bihar Minister Tej Pratap Yadav on Sunday (June 1, 2025) broke his silence a week after his expulsion from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) by his father and party chief Lalu Prasad. Without naming anyone, Mr. Yadav in a social media post on X said some people had hatched a conspiracy to separate him from Tejashwi Yadav, his younger brother and Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly. Comparing himself to Lord Krishna and his younger brother to Arjuna, Mr. Tej Yadav asserted that he would soon expose those playing the role of Jaichand (betrayer). Mr. Prasad had on May 25 expelled his elder son from the party for six years and snapped all family ties with him, stating that his actions were 'irresponsible' and not in accordance with public conduct. 'My dear mom and dad, my whole world is just you two. You and your orders are greater than God. If you are there, I have everything. I only need your trust and love and nothing else,' Mr. Tej Yadav posted at 5:27 a.m., while blaming a few greedy people of 'playing politics' with him. 'Papa, if you had not been there, this party would not have been there and neither would there be some greedy people like Jaichand who played politics with me. Mom and dad, may you both always be healthy and happy.' Sources said Mr. Prasad took action against his son after pictures of his remarriage were posted on his Facebook account. He later deleted that post claiming that his account was hacked. Later in the afternoon, Mr. Tej Yadav posted another message with an attacking tone. 'Those who dream of separating me from my Arjun, you will never be successful in your conspiracies. You can take Krishna's army but not Krishna himself. I will expose every conspiracy soon. Just have faith my brother, I am with you in every situation. I am away right now but my blessings were and will always be with you. My brother, take care of mom and dad, Jaichand is everywhere, inside as well as outside,' Mr. Tej Yadav said. In May 2018, Mr. Tej Yadav married Aishwarya Rai, the granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Prasad Rai but filed for divorce five months later. Ms. Rai termed Sunday's posts 'drama' keeping in mind the forthcoming Assembly election.
