DA case: Majithia's judicial custody extended till August 14
A local court on Saturday extended till August 14 the judicial custody of former cabinet minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a disproportionate assets (DA) case. Majithia was produced before the court via video conferencing from Nabha jail, where he is currently lodged. He was sent to judicial custody on July 6 and his remand was later extended on July 18. His counsel Arshdeep Kler informed that Majithia's regular bail application is scheduled to be heard on August 4. Furthermore, an application seeking a change of his jail barrack has been listed for August 6. It is pertinent to mention that the local court had reserved its order on Majithia's bail application on Friday. The Vigilance Bureau had arrested the SAD leader from Amritsar on June 25. He was sent to judicial custody on July 6 and his remand was later extended on July 18. According to the FIR registered by the Vigilance Bureau, its preliminary investigation has revealed that more than ₹540 crore worth of 'drug money' was laundered in several ways and Majithia had allegedly facilitated it. The Vigilance Bureau's FIR against Majithia stemmed from an investigation being carried out by a Punjab Police Special Investigation Team into a 2021 drug case. In 2021, Majithia was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, on the basis of a 2018 report of the anti-drug special task force. Majithia had spent more than five months in Patiala jail and walked out of prison in August 2022 after the Punjab and Haryana high court granted him bail.

Court extends Majithia's judicial custody till Aug 14
Chandigarh: A Mohali local court on Saturday extended the judicial custody of former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia by 14 days until Aug 14. The court also directed police to produce him again before the court through video conferencing after the expiry of his judicial custody. Majithia appeared before the court via video conferencing. The court also deferred the hearing on Majithia's jail barrack change application till Aug 5. Majithia's lawyer raised concerns about his security in jail, telling the court that the leader was kept with an accused who was sentenced to death for killing three youths, one of whom was a girl. Additionally, another accused was booked under Pocso Act. Further arguments on his regular bail application were to be heard on Aug 4 and then on Aug 6. Majithia moved an application requesting that his barrack in the jail be changed. His lawyers argued that as an MLA and a former minister, he should be given special facilities of the orange category according to jail rules and should be kept separate from other prisoners. Majithia was arrested from his house in Amritsar in a disproportionate assets case, registered against him at the Mohali Vigilance Bureau headquarters on June 25. The next day, vigilance sleuths produced Majithia in Mohali court, and the court sent him to a 7-day police remand. In a joint action by the SIT and Punjab vigilance department against Majithia, raids were conducted at several of his hideouts in Chandigarh-Delhi. Later, the court sent Majithia to judicial custody. Court orders FIR against cop for assault on court chowkidar in Mohali
1 2 Mohali: A local court has ordered the registration of an FIR against Inspector Jashanpreet Singh for allegedly assaulting a court employee inside the Mohali court complex earlier this month during the production of Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia . The court observed that cognisable and non-compoundable offences were committed against a public servant on duty and directed the SSP, Mohali, to ensure necessary legal action is taken. Inspector Jashanpreet was posted as SHO Dhakoli during the incident and was shifted to police lines a day after. The order was passed in connection with a complaint filed by Pawan Kumar, reader to Civil Judge (Senior Division)-cum-Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Anish Goyal, who reported the incident that took place on July 6. The court directed the SHO of Sohana Police Station to register an FIR under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 132 (assaulting or using criminal force to deter a public servant from duty), 221 (obstructing a public servant in discharge of duty), and 304 (snatching) of the BNS, along with any other applicable sections revealed during investigation. According to the complaint, Baljeet Singh, posted as a chowkidar under the establishment of the Civil Judge (Senior Division), was on duty when former minister Bikram Singh Majithia was to be produced in court. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Global Indices Are on the Move — Time to Trade! IC Markets Learn More Undo At around 11.30 am, Inspector Jashanpreet allegedly approached Baljeet Singh and demanded the gate near the Radha Swami Satsang Ghar be opened. When the chowkidar requested the Inspector to obtain permission from judicial authorities before opening the gate, the Inspector reportedly snatched the keys from him and physically pushed him. Later in the day, Baljeet Singh informed Judge Anish Goyal that he was assaulted with 2–3 fist blows by the Inspector. The reader, Pawan Kumar, subsequently filed the complaint, which was forwarded to the police for inquiry. The inquiry, conducted by the SHO of Sohana Police Station and concurred with by DSP City II, concluded that no offence was made out, citing that the matter was "mutually settled" and that both parties were public servants under pressure in a tense environment. However, the court disagreed with this conclusion. The judge ruled that the offences alleged are non-compoundable and cannot be dismissed merely because the victim — a govt employee — later reached a compromise. "The offence is deemed to be committed against the State, and merely at the whims and fancies of the victim, the criminal justice system would not come to a halt," the court stated. Treating the original complaint as a formal FIR, the court instructed that a copy of the order be forwarded to SHO, Sohana, and that the complainant supply a copy of the application to the Naib Court for necessary transmission to the concerned police station.
