The Good Liar: Cat-and-mouse thriller starring Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren
When a veteran conman (Ian McKellen) sets his sights on a wealthy widow (Helen Mirren) as his next victim, he thinks he's found himself an easy mark. As he charms his way into her life, though, it becomes apparent that there is much more going on than meets the eye. With a back story involving events during the dark days of the Second World War, this is a precisely engineered Swiss watch of a thriller. It's nowhere near as cut and dried as it first appears and will keep you guessing until the end - and the two leads are, of course, an absolute delight. The supporting cast includes Russell Tovey and Downton's Jim Carter and the director is Bill Condon, who also directed McKellen in Mr Holmes. (109 minutes)

Jennifer Lopez Is 'Unrecognizable' After Dramatic Hair Transformation for New Role originally appeared on Parade. Jennifer Lopez completely changed up her look for the upcoming film, Kiss of the Spider Woman. Entertainment Weekly reported that Lopez is playing Ingrid Luna/the Spider Woman, a silver-screen actress, in the new film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, which premiered in 1993. In the trailer for the film, Lopez sported bleach-blond hair styled in loose waves. She also wore vintage-inspired makeup, including deep red lipstick, defined eyebrows, and winged eyeliner. The musical film also stars Diego Luna and Tonatiuh. Entertainment Weekly reported that Lopez, who is also one of the film's producers, spoke about Kiss of the Spider Woman in a November 2024 interview on Variety's Awards Circuitpodcast. "It's a dark story, but also one about love and survival — about helping each other through hard times. I think that's a message we really need right now," said Lopez during the podcast interview. Lopez uploaded the trailer for her upcoming project in a June 5 Instagram post. "Jennifer Lopez, Diego Luna, and Tonatiuh star in #KissoftheSpiderWoman. From Academy Award winner Bill Condon, director of Dreamgirls and writer of Chicago. Only in theaters October 10," read the caption of the post. Several fans took to the post's comments section to share their excitement for Kiss of the Spider Woman. I'm something of a freak for musicals even when they don't star Jennifer Lopez, so you can imagine how I feel about Bill Condon's upcoming big-screen adaptation of Kiss of the Spider Woman. Set in a prison during Argentina's Dirty War, the film, which had its world premiere at Sundance earlier this year, features none other than as a fatally beautiful screen actress (what a stretch!), and it's due out in theaters this fall. Kiss of the Spider Woman teaser trailer: Ever since Jennifer Lopez received rave reviews for her performance in the world premiere of this musical drama at the Sundance Film Festival, fans have been eagerly waiting for an update on the release of the film. On Thursday, the singer finally released the first teaser trailer of the film- in which she belts out some powerful notes- and fans are already in love. (Also read: Jennifer Lopez on Kiss of the Spider Woman receiving standing ovation: 'I've been waiting for this moment my whole life') The trailer gives a sneak peak into the fantastic world of the Bill Condon directorial, which is based on the acclaimed 1993 Broadway show by the legendary John Kander and Fred Ebb, known for their work on Cabaret and Chicago. It shows glimpses of the Argentinian prison during the country's brutal 'Dirty War' era, as Luis Molina (Tonatiuh), a queer window dresser serves time for engaging in a sexual relationship with another man. Luis captivates his cellmate, Valentine Arregui (Diego Luna), by sharing stories about his favourite movie star, Ingrid Luna, portrayed by Lopez. The trailer contains scenes where the singer is seen dancing and singing live. Bill Condon, Jennifer Lopez unveil musical ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman' at Sundance
PARK CITY, Utah — A lavish, MGM-style musical is not typical Sundance Film Festival fare. But Sunday night Bill Condon brought such a creation—well, part of one—to Park City, Utah, with his adaptation of 'Kiss of the Spider Woman,' starring Jennifer Lopez . Audiences broke out in spontaneous applause during the screening for Lopez's song and dance numbers. She plays an old Hollywood screen siren in a movie-within-the movie. The packed Eccles Theater also gave Lopez, wearing a glittery spiderweb themed frock, a standing ovation after the show.
