Did you know that Billie Eilish actually has Irish roots?
Music sensation Billie Eilish is getting ready to entertain her Irish fans and some of you may or may not know that this is something of a homecoming for her. While we've a tendancy of claiming anyone with a whiff of Irishness, the Bad Guy star's full name is actually Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell, and as the surname might suggest, she does have Irish heritage. Billie's name 'Baird' is from her mother Maggie Baird and her father is Patrick O'Connell, with both parents having roots in Ireland and also in Scotland. 'I'm mean, it's cool, but I just didn't have anything to base it on – never been to Ireland, y'know, I didn't know anything really. And it's been actually really cool to come here.' The two-time Oscar winner is bringing her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour to Dublin on July 26 and 27, having wowed Irish audiences back in 2022 with her Happier Than Ever tour. Fans were surprised to learn that London's O2 Arena had a fully vegan menu for sale to concert-goers, which included a peri-peri halloumi wrap, chipotle tacos, pancakes and pizza. The What Was I Made For singer was raised vegetarian and switched to veganism aged 12, way before it became one of the go-to lifestyles.

Billie Eilish Teams Up With ‘Avatar' Director James Cameron for 3D Project
Could a Billie Eilish concert film be heading to theaters? Fans think so after she announced an upcoming project with Oscar-winning director James Cameron during her first of four sold-out shows at Manchester's Co-op Live Arena on July 19. 'So you may have noticed that there are more cameras than usual in here,' Billie told the audience during her performance. 'Basically, I can't say much about it, but what I can say is that I'm working on something very, very special with somebody named James it's going to be in 3D.' The Grammy and Oscar winner revealed that the iconic director behind blockbuster hits like Titanic and the Avatar franchise happened to be among the fans in the crowd. 'Take that as you will, and these four shows here in Manchester, you and me are part of a thing that I am making with him. He's in this audience somewhere, just saying,' she shared before jokingly revealing that she'll be outfit repeating for her next few shows on tour. Billie added, 'So don't mind that, and also I'll probably be wearing this exact outfit for like four days in a row.' Naturally, the internet went crazy as the announcement made waves on social media, and fans are theorizing that the artist and director are joining forces for a 3D concert film following the success of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé. 'The way no one else is giving music, visuals, & literal cinema, oh billie the greatest artist of all time you are!' one fan wrote in response to the news, while another added, 'this might clear every concert film we've ever had, oh we are seated!' Others theorized that some crowd work might be featured in the project, as a member of Billie's team allegedly passed audience members a camera during her show on July 19. 'Just saying… billie's team gave my friends a camcorder and told them to record their faces during the show… something crazy is about to happen (imagine it's a new song),' one social post read ahead of the announcement. Billie has been on the road in support of her Grammy-nominated third album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, since last fall. Her shows will continue with dates across Europe in Japan before she kicks off a second North American leg in Miami on October 9. While other details surrounding her collaboration with James Cameron are slim, we already know we're ready for whatever comes from the legendary duo.

Billie Piper reveals major change for Doctor Who two decades after her debut
Billie Piper was 'revealed' as the next Doctor when the latest series ended in May - and is set to reprise her role as Rose Tyler in a new audio drama series Billie Piper has said making Doctor Who now would be 'completely different' to when she first appeared on the BBC show 20 years ago. The 42-year-old joined as Rose Tyler, the companion to Christopher Eccleston, back in 2005. She remained on the show for another series in 2006 and returned for a special cameo appearance in 2010. Though details have yet to formally be announced, it's thought she will be the next Doctor if a new series is made. It comes after Ncuti Gatwa's shock exit during the finale of the latest series when his character regenerated into Billie in his final episode, which aired in May. If she is, Billie will make history as the second female actor ever to play the Doctor. So far, Jodie Whittaker is the only female to take on the iconic role. But before that, Billie is set to reunite with former Doctor Ecclestone for a new audio drama titled The Ninth Doctor Adventures. Speaking to Doctor Who magazine, Billie reflected on their previous time working together and said: "If we just made the Doctor Who that we made 20 years ago now, it would feel slightly disingenuous, because things were so different then, even 20 years ago, to what we're experiencing, what we've seen, what we've been exposed to since. "God, we were so much more positive then. People have been profoundly affected by the material they see on social media. And it's been so normalised; everyone is a lot more heavy-hearted." She added: "It's not to say that we don't have a capacity for joy, because I think we absolutely do, but to ignore where we are right now... it's a completely different experience." Instead, The Ninth Doctor Adventures audio series will feature the Doctor and Rose. Set within the timeline of their original season together from 20 years ago, fans will be treated to 12 new stories. And it might not be long before Billie is back on TV screens. Appearing to confirm she is the new Doctor, she said in a statement last month: "It's no secret how much I love this show, and I have always said I would love to return to the Whoniverse, as I have some of my best memories there. So to be given the opportunity to step back on that Tardis one more time was just something I couldn't refuse." Asked if she would ever make a comeback in an interview filmed weeks before the news was officially announced, she said: "Yeah I would… I would come back. What's funny is that I never feel like I've left Doctor Who, because there is this huge Doctor Who afterlife." She continued: "Obviously people still really want to talk about it, it's a massive fandom, so we do conventions and we meet lots of the fans, and there's always features. It's always on the TV on some channel, and a new generation pick it up, so it never feels like it's over, like it does with all the other jobs I've done." It's been reported that the 10th Doctor, played by David Tennant, could also return to the TV show. A source told The Sun: "The BBC brought Doctor Who back in 2005 and there is talk about a possible one-off project to celebrate the 20th anniversary. "David and Billie were a hugely popular partnership and he brought in a golden age of Doctor Who. With the anniversary of the reboot this year there have been some ideas floated about, with the thought of maybe bringing David and Billie back together for one last hurrah. 'It wouldn't be beyond the realms of imagination for him to return with Billie as Rose for a one-off special to celebrate not only their partnership, but the anniversary of BBC bringing back Doctor Who."

Billie Eilish Teases 'Special' Project With Titanic Director James Cameron; Find Out
Last Updated: Billie Eilish is collaborating on a project with James Cameron, filmed during her Manchester shows. She also expressed interest in a future music collaboration with Ariana Grande. Billie Eilish is working on 'something very, very special" with James Cameron. The What Was I Made For? hitmaker explained to fans at her show at Co-op Live in Manchester, north England on Saturday (19.07.25) that the evening was being filmed for her mystery collaboration with the Avatar filmmaker. She said on stage: 'So you may have noticed there's like more cameras than usual. Basically I can't say much about it, but what I can say is that I'm working on something very, very special with James Cameron." While Billie declined to offer any specific details, she did confirm the project 'is gonna be in 3D". James was in attendance at the concert, and Billie suggested filming will continue during her other three shows at the venue. She added: 'You and me are part of the thing that I'm making with him. Also, I'll probably be wearing this exact outfit for like four days in a row." Earlier this year, Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande have revealed they hope to collaborate on music when the Bad Guy hitmaker interviewed the 31-year-old star about her film Wicked at a screening of the blockbuster musical in Los Angeles. Towards the end of the Q+A, Ariana told Billie they need to hit the studio together. Billie accidentally said: 'OK, a few more songs. And then we go, because we're only allowed a few more songs. Did I say songs? Oh my God. I meant questions. I'm on tour, you guys. I'm used to saying that. Sorry." Prompting Ariana to respond: 'We do need to do that, though." Billie agreed: 'I would love to do that." Ariana explained that Billie was at the top of her wish-list to join her on the sofa for the chat, but she didn't expect her to be able to do it due to her hectic schedule, so she was 'so nervous". She said: 'My team was like: Who would be a cool person to do this? Who's your dream person? I was like, Billie, [but] she's not gonna say yes. She's too busy. She's too fabulous. It's too much. But she said yes, and I was like, 'Oh, s***.' Now I'm so nervous." First Published: July 20, 2025, 17:47 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
