History in the Making: Binghamton Patriots in Final Four with Student Section
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Binghamton Patriots boy's basketball team is heading to the Final Four at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena for the first time in 39 years, and Binghamton High School is preparing for this game, alongside the community. The Patriots past track record in the final four is pretty good, winning states in their last two appearances, but that was in 1985 and 86. The team has been grinding all season long to this point, to be able to prove they are one of the best teams in the state, and this is a new spot for the team, as they face Tappan Zee out of Section I. 'I think everyone's excited. I think we have some nerves, but I would call them good nerves,' said Head Coach Duncan Paddick. 'When we get out there in the arena tomorrow, we're going to think, you know, it's like a sectional game, but there's a lot more attention.' Binghamton High School released in a statement that given the historic game that is right around the corner from the school, they are offering high school students the opportunity to attend for free as part of a school-sponsored field trip since the game is during a school day. Students wishing to attend must be in school the entire day, and at 2:00 will walk to the arena for the game, supervised by a staff member. 'You can feel the buzz walking around BHS right now, that people are excited and encouraged by what this team has done,' said Paddick. The game is Thursday at 2:30 at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena.
