India's most expensive film, budget to be Rs 4000 crore, lead actors are..., movie name is...

What drives someone to bet a massive budget on a story everyone already knows? For Namit Malhotra, it's not just about making a film, it's about honouring a legacy, reviving a belief system, and reimagining mythology on a scale never seen before. India's most expensive film Filmmaker and Prime Focus founder Namit Malhotra is creating waves with his boldest move yet: a two-part cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana. Slated to release in 2026 and 2027, this isn't just another mythology-based film — it's set to be the most expensive project in Indian cinema history, with a reported budget of over Rs 4,000 crore. Speaking on a podcast with YouTuber Prakhar Gupta, Malhotra recalled, 'Everybody thought I'm a lunatic… because no Indian film, by a long distance, comes close to it.' The combined budget of both parts? A staggering $500 million. Why Ramayana, and why now? For Malhotra, this isn't about flexing scale. It's about legacy. 'I'm taking the greatest belief system of our country. We're taking something that we have pride in. It's a foundational piece of our culture,' he said, adding that he hopes the story resonates globally in today's times. With a team that includes Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari, Malhotra believes he's the right custodian for a tale that holds deep spiritual and cultural significance. Who's playing who? The casting reflects the ambition: Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram Sai Pallavi as Sita Yash as Ravan Ravi Dubey as Lakshman Sunny Deol as Hanuman Part One of the film is set for Diwali 2026, with Part Two to follow in Diwali 2027. Hollywood-level investment To give perspective, Ramayana's production budget outpaces major global hits like the latest Superman reboot, and matches the cost of Marvel giants like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Yet, despite the massive spend, Malhotra insists it's not reckless, 'We're making the largest film in the world for the greatest story… but we're doing it with responsibility.' Malhotra's motivations are also personal. 'My kids are growing up in Mumbai today. They're going to Indian schools. I want them to study in India,' he shared, underlining his commitment to preserving Indian culture — not just through storytelling, but at home too. Even before its release, the buzz around the film is electric. The first glimpses have already caused a stir online, with fans and critics alike eager to see how this epic unfolds on the big screen.

And I still think it's cheaper than what it cost to make some of the biggest Hollywood films. So I think we're making a bigger film at a lower cost. Because that Indian in me still believes that we're not being irresponsible financially. We're not being irresponsible with money,' he added. 'I'm taking the greatest belief system of our country. We're taking something that we have pride in. It's a foundational piece of our culture. And I'm going to mount it and present it in the grandest form possible. And it's going to cost whatever it costs. Why is that a risk? When I think about Ramayana, I'm like, is it really a risk? All I'm doing is, I have to just make sure we do justice to people's expectations, and beyond. There has to be pride that must come through, in every Indian first, and then every other person in the world, to say: that's a great piece of culture. I genuinely think the relevance of Ramayana today in the world, not just India, is massive. Look at the wars in the West. Look at the way the countries are operating. I've lived in America. I've lived in the UK. I've hesitated to send my kids abroad to study,' said Malhotra, sharing that Ramayana is his way to honour India's foundational cultural ethos.

Film Icons' Rarely-Seen Twins Step Into the Spotlight for Stunning Public Appearance With Mom & Dad

Paris Fashion Week's haute couture spotlight brightened as legendary actors Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance made a rare and stylish appearance with their 19‑year‑old twins. The teens, Slater and Bronwyn Vance, attended the Stéphane Rolland Fall/Winter 2025–2026 show in the European city on Tuesday, July 8, alongside their famous parents. The longtime couple, who tied the knot in Oct. 1997, and their children delighted onlookers-not just for their iconic status, but for their impeccable family coordination during the joint outing. For the fashionable function, the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star, 66, chose a sleeveless, flowy chocolate-colored dress, perfectly complimenting her bronzy skin tone. She accessorized the look with a thick cuff bangle and platform pumps, perfectly balancing summery elegance with Parisian poise. Bassett's beauty look was kept simple, as she wore her dark brown tresses down, middle-parted in loose curls. The Preacher's Wife star, 65, for his part, matched his wife with subtle accents, donning a warm weather staple: a crisp linen suit worn over a classic white button-up. A fedora, featuring a brown detailing, sat atop his head, while he finished the look off with shiny brown oxfords. Bronwyn and Slater echoed their parents' warm tones, the former choosing a rust-colored floor-length gown with draping in the front, and the latter going with a chic white top paired with black slacks, a stylish topper and oversized ombré sunglasses. Together, they created a polished and harmonious familial unit, stepping into the spotlight alongside their legendary mom and dad. Among other luminaries in attendance, Cardi B was seen front row beside Bassett, with the two even being captured chatting during the event and snapping photos together. The hip-hop hitmaker went avant-garde for the appearance, rocking an over-the-top black-and-white hooded number that instantly turned heads. ‘Ironheart' Ended Strong, It Deserved Better Than This From Disney

Ironheart While I wasn't sold on the first three episodes of Ironheart when they aired last week, as reviews said, it really did pick up in the second half, and by the end, it delivered on its potential. But the show and character deserved better than how Disney delivered this series. The promotion for Ironheart has been all over the place. Despite the fact that it was allegedly ready to air some time ago, Ironheart was released a full three years after Riri Williams had her high-profile debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, when it should have been developed and aired much closer to that release. In addition to that, its late airing and focus on magic feels well outside anything that Marvel is currently doing, either on TV with its street-level punchy-shooty heroes like Daredevil or Punisher, or its larger Fantastic Four/Avengers projects. I would be floored if Riri ended up in either. I was extremely impressed with Dominique Thorne as the lead here, who didn't especially catch my eye with her appearance in Wakanda Forever but here, I thought she gave a charismatic, compelling performance in a way I feel like I haven't seen in one of these series since Iman Velani's Ms. Marvel. Ironheart Ironheart was a grounded tale in the sense that it was focused on both grief and the subsequent anxiety it brings. I can't say I've ever seen a hero actively have believable panic attacks in the Marvel universe before, and none of it felt forced. Action-wise, it's clear that this show has a larger budget than its viewership will justify, but its use of non-nanotech, mechanical suits is something that got lost in the MCU over time, and it was great to see it back. It would have been nice to see more than a single real suit fight, but alas, that's where the budget kicks in, no doubt. The show struggled the most with its villain, The Hood, though his character got better by the end (his outfit, however, did not). Easily the most MCU-significant moment of the series is finally the introduction of Mephisto after endless theorizing about his appearance in past series like WandaVision or Agatha All Along. Marvel decided to finally show him off here, and in more than just a post-credit tease or something along those lines. Sascha Baron Cohen may have seemed like an odd choice for the part, but he was excellent. Mephisto But the way this show has been handled, despite being set up for a second season dealing with the aftermath of Riri's deal with the devil, it seems almost certain nothing will come of this. There are no places where it feels like Riri or Mephisto would be slotted into the larger MCU from here, given its current focus and its next phase being X-Men-based. Ironheart was dumped out in three-episode batches with little fanfare, too late after it should have aired, and seemingly with no large plans to plug these great new characters in anywhere else. That's a shame. Watch it, appreciate it, but I guess now we just move on. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.
