The best Father's Day meals in Singapore 2025

This burger and craft beer joint is the perfect spot for a Father's Day celebration if Dad's the laidback, chill type. This Father's Day weekend, Black Tap is bringing back the highly raved Boss Burger, available as a pairing with a pint of local brewery Brewlander's summer ale ($38). Expect a juicy double beef patty stack with bacon, topped with melted American cheese, crunchy lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and slathered with Black Tap's special homemade sauce – the perfect pairing with a swig of crisp craft beer. Other popular burgers include the classic All-American ($23) or the Greg Norman ($28). The latter features a wagyu patty with a sinful blue cheese spread. And for dads who are kids at heart, the joint's signature over-the-top milkshakes are sure to delight, but maybe a couple of sips will do, just to keep that sugar intake in check.

The One Ingredient You Should Never, Ever Put In Pasta Sauce

In the world of food sins, cooking a Wagyu steak well done or drinking a rare Burgundy wine over ice are up there. But there might be an even worse one, according to chef Joe Isidori, co-founder of Black Tap and owner of Arthur & Sons in New York City. "If you're making Sunday gravy with ketchup, I don't know if we can be friends," Isidori told The Takeout. We have to agree. Ketchup is sweet, tangy, and deeply nostalgic. It's a staple in pantries across the globe and works wonders on fries, meatloaf, and the occasional late-night grilled cheese. But it has absolutely no business mingling with the nuanced, slow-cooked elegance of a proper Italian pasta sauce. If you're a controversial ketchup-on-everything kind of person, consider this a friendly intervention. "Tomato paste and a pinch of sugar is how Nonna did it," Isidori said. "Respect the sauce." A well-made marinara, Pomodoro, or ragu is all about the balance between sweet and acidic tomatoes, caramelized aromatics, and layers of savory depth from olive oil, garlic, herbs, and thyme. A good Italian cook (or Nonna) coaxes sweetness from tomatoes with a lot of patience and a low simmer. It's the reason why Sicilian grandmothers spend entire Sundays slow-simmering their red sauce. Ketchup, on the other hand, is made in a factory with high-fructose corn syrup, distilled vinegar, and "natural flavoring" -- all of which are intensely concentrated and can easily throw off the sauce's harmony. Read more: Yellow Mustard Brands Ranked From Worst To Best If you've run out of tomato paste and are curious if ketchup is a good substitute, it's not. "Tomato paste is concentrated and gives the sauce body," Isidori confirms. "Ketchup's sweet and vinegary -- it's not built for real sauce." He's right: Ketchup is an entirely different product. It's highly processed and preserved, designed for instant flavor gratification, not slow-cooked complexity. Swapping in ketchup because you're out of tomato paste is like using coffee syrup instead of brown sugar in a barbecue rub. "You can fake it in a pinch," Isidori continued. "But if you're doing things the right way? Keep that bottle on the hot dog cart." Italian cuisine is rooted in regional pride and generations of know-how. Even the humblest pasta sauce carries with it centuries of refinement. When you add ketchup to a pasta sauce, you're not elevating it; you're insulting it. A proper red gravy should taste like tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, maybe a touch of basil, and grandma's love. Not Heinz. Ketchup belongs on burgers and fries, not in the Soprano family's Sunday sauce. Italian pasta sauces thrive on simplicity, integrity, and a deep respect for the ingredients. The next time you're tempted to doctor up a sauce with ketchup, remember that sometimes the best cooking decision is knowing when to leave well enough alone. Abu Dhabi's beloved Antonia is opening in Dubai

Dubai is finally getting a taste of Antonia… Italian capital hotspot Antonia is growing, and Dubai is the next destination. The spot, specialising in Pizza Al Taglio – a Roman variety of our favourite flatbread that literally means 'pizza by the slice', will be opening doors in Mall of the Emirates. This type of pizza traditionally comes in squares and makes for some epic street eats, and after serving the streets of Abu Dhabi in multiple locations, they're now blessing us Dubai folk with their first outpost in the city. Back in Abu Dhabi, Antonia already has locations in Al Maryah Island, Al Zeina and Mamsha Al Saadiyat. With a casual eats like this, the possibilities are endless – the 'by-the-slice' concept also means you can mix and match your topping choices, allowing you to blend classic pizza experiences such as diavola, burrata, and tartufo e funghi (truffle and mushroom). The pizzeria uses a crowd-favourite base blend born of organic Italian flour and 50 year old sourdough (which sounds musky but trust us, this is the good stuff). They also serve up hearty portions of antipasti, authentic pasta, cold pizzas, calamari, fresh salad options, suppli, and sweet pizzas (with Nutella of course). Antonia is all-set to occupy the space where Black Tap previously was. This is located near the cinema on the upper level of Mall of the Emirates. While no details have been revealed on an official opening date or what the space will look like, we're keeping our eyes peeled out for further updates. Watch this space! If you just can't wait for the opening and feel like taking a foodie trip to the capital, read our reviews of the Mamsha Al Saadiyat and the The Galleria, Al Maryah Island locations here and here. 6 new restaurants set to elevate Jeddah's dining scene

The dining scene in the Red Sea city is about to get much tastier. Jeddah's restaurant scene is flourishing, with each new opening promising a unique gastronomic experience. From the Parisian charms of Boeuf Sur Le Toit to the Italian treats at Cipriani, there's something for everyone. And that's just the beginning. Read on to discover the new Jeddah restaurants that should be on your dining radar in 2025. Black Tap Any foodie worth their salt has sampled the gargantuan burgers and crazyshakes that have made Black Tap Insta-famous. So it was only a matter of time before the craze headed west to Jeddah from Riyadh, where the dining scene is evolving by the day. The New York burger joint's second outpost in Saudi Arabia will take up residence in La Paz Plaza. Black Tap Jeddah is expected to sport the vibrant New York ambience found in similar branches across the globe, complete with neon signs, graffiti art, grey bricks, and a graphic black-and-white floor – not to mention its FACT award-winning food and trendy playlist. Expected opening: 2025 TBC Boeuf Sur Le Toit While the location of Boeuf Sur Le Toit in Jeddah has yet to be confirmed, the restaurant plans to open in late 2024. Hailing from Paris, where it's celebrated for its love for art, culture, and food, the Jeddah outpost is poised to follow suit. Expect to have your meal complemented by live entertainment and impromptu performances. Wood and gold will add a touch of glam to the setting, transforming the restaurant from a fine dining experience to a music hall. As for the menu, Boeuf Sur Le Toit features French brasserie classics. Expect to see the likes of Canadian Lobster, Charolais Beef Tartare, Scallop Carpaccio, Vitello Tonnato, Creamy Burrata and Beets, Confit Shoulder of Lamb and Salmon Fillet. Expected opening: 2025 TBC Boxooo Saudi Arabia has hit the headlines for its changing laws for women. Now, the London-based chef Asma Khan is working with Boxooo International and creating a culinary concept that helps female entrepreneurs. Boxooo will be a dining destination in Jeddah, and more will open across the Kingdom. As one of TIME's 100 Most Influential People, a UN Chef Ambassador and featured chef on Netflix's Chef's Table, Asma Khan visited Saudi Arabia to announce Boxooo, which has the tagline 'creating a foodie future together'. Expected opening: 2025 TBC Cipriani Cipriani is an institution. The brand is known across the world for its famous Venetian fine dining. The family motto is 'to serve is to love'. Now, it is spreading that Cipriani love to Jeddah, and is scheduled to open at Fayfa Avenue in Al Tahlia. We can expect Cipriani Jeddah to include the brand's signature nautical colours, which range from blue sofas to white tablecloths. Plus, the menu prides itself on using simple ingredients to a high-quality standard and offering signature dishes from Harry's Bar in Venice, including Carpaccio 'alla Cipriani', Calf's Liver 'alla Veneziana' with Fried Polenta, Baked Tagliolini, Risotto 'alla Primavera', and Vanilla Meringue. And because the menu is anchored in Venetian favourites, produce and premium ingredients have been sourced from Italian farms, adding a sense of authenticity. Expected opening: 2025 TBC Meat The Fish The Lebanese-born brand Meat the Fish is opening restaurants in Jeddah, and it will offer premium produce. In 2012, Meat the Fish was created as a delivery service. As the name suggests, it offers high-quality meat and fish. The online platform sold more than 100 products, which included Australian beef, Dutch veal, French chicken and Japanese oysters. In 2014, the brand expanded and opened its first shop and restaurant. If the restaurants in Lebanese are anything to go by, we are expecting Meat the Fish in Jeddah to be a hip hotspot serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast dishes include egg, sweet and savoury dishes, which range from Steak Hache and Fried Eggs to Zaatar on Toast. The main menu covers bowls, raw, salads, sandwiches, sharing and wraps. Expected opening: 2025 TBC Mimosa Making its way from Paris to Jeddah, Mimosa is set to open at the city's Cascade by Jeddah Walk. The upcoming restaurant promises to bring the flavours of the French Riviera to the city, and Chef Jean-Francois Piege is the mastermind behind this menu. Once Mimosa opens, guests can look forward to an array of delectable dishes such as Semolina Gnocchi with Parmesan, Gratinated Tagliolini, Red Tuna Steak, and much more. Mimosa first debuted in Paris in 2021. Since then, it's been wowing diners with its celebration of the Mediterranean. Following its success in Paris, the restaurant expanded to St. Tropez and recently made its debut in London at The Langham. Expected opening: 2025 TBC
