'They have no idea': Jimmy Fallon and The Weeknd shock Fordham University grads with surprise performance
Jimmy Fallon and The Weeknd crashed a Fordham University graduation party in New York City on Thursday, surprising this year's graduates with performances of hit songs "Blinding Lights" and "Can't Feel My Face." The students thought they were attending a small party honoring them, the late night host of 'The Tonight Show' said in a video of the surprise. The university reported about 200 students were in attendance. "They have no idea that I'm about to DJ for them," Fallon said. "They also have no idea that The Weeknd is going to perform." Fordham president Tania Tetlow welcomed the soon-to-be-graduates to the celebration, sharing they had a "special guest DJ" coming. Students erupted in cheers as Fallon then entered the room, taking his place behind the DJ setup. "I've never deejayed before in my life," Fallon said. "I should admit that now, I just figured it'd be fun." Fallon fumbled around with the equipment before plugging his phone in and playing The Weekend's popular song "Blinding Lights" as he warmed up the crowd. That's when the doors opened to reveal the Grammy-award winning singer himself, sending students into another bout of cheers and jumping with excitement. "Class of 2025, let's go!" The Weeknd yelled before jumping into his performance. He shared the mic with some students at the front and hit synchronized dance moves with Fordham's mascot Ramses, who Fallon and The Weeknd kept calling "Ramsey." The Weeknd then performed another hit, 'Can't Feel My Face," before the duo left. Students loudly sang along, hands raised in the air. On Friday night's episode of the Tonight Show, The Weeknd said he did not expect the surprise to be "that crazy." "When did you know for a second that it might work?" Fallon asked. "When they started screaming for you, actually," the singer replied, with laughter from the show's audience.

He got the crowd warmed up to the intro of The Weeknd's Blinding Lights. The joyous sea of students started to groove to the beats of this track when they got interrupted by The Weeknd himself as the singer waltzed through the doors, leaving the students starstruck. The Weeknd's Debut Film Hurry Up Tomorrow Gets Roasted By Fans
Alongside The Weeknd, Hurry Up Tomorrow stars Barry Keoghan and Jenna Ortega in important roles. When a music star tries something new and steps into acting, it always catches attention. Abel Tesfaye, known worldwide as The Weeknd, made his film debut this year with Hurry Up Tomorrow, a psychological thriller that also connects closely with his latest album. But instead of universal praise, the film is facing harsh criticism with many calling it 'the worst movie in a decade.' The movie shows a fictional version of The Weeknd playing a musician who can't sleep. After meeting a stranger, his life takes an unexpected turn. The story explores his emotional struggles and mental challenges. Trey Edward Shults has directed and co-written the project. In Hurry Up Tomorrow, Barry Keoghan plays Lee, a loyal friend and hype man while Jenna Ortega takes the role of Anima, a fan whose obsession might be blurring her perception of reality. Even though the movie tried something different, it failed to impress the audiences. On X, one user wrote, 'Easily one of the worst movies of the decade, a movie that can't even be saved by a powerhouse of a performance by Jenna Ortega." Another said, 'It's tough to judge as a movie. It's more so an extension of his album." One fan claimed, 'Wouldn't say it's one of the worst, but I was pretty disappointed." Someone else remarked, 'I love The Weeknd but he should stop acting he looks so goofy." Some were more critical with an individual bluntly saying, 'Just watched Hurry Up Tomorrow (2025) and damn, I have tears in my eyes. The plot, the themes, the characters, the dynamics, the thrills, the emotional moments, everything was shitty from beginning to end. On my way to the hospital, definitely the worst movie of 2025." A movie-goer stated, 'Soulless, exhausting, forced. Essentially a feature length commercial for the album. All style, no substance. Not even Jenna Ortega dancing to Blinding Lights could save this self-insistent slop." Another review read, 'When movies like Hurry Up Tomorrow come around, I seriously wonder whether actors involved knew half-way through production they were in an all-time disaster. Even the best of them can find themselves in these." But not all reviews were filled with criticism. A user said, 'I just watched hurry up tomorrow and it was for sure something I've never seen before. There's a different understanding for everyone. Any hate towards the film is straight up stupid because Abel done his job well done expressing everything he wanted to. I loved it so much." Another added, 'Maybe not the style of movie you would expect but give it time, it'll age like wine." Hurry Up Tomorrow hit theaters on May 16. First Published:

Social Sharing Abel Tesfaye, a.k.a. the Weeknd, is currently on a press run to promote his new film, Hurry Up Tomorrow, and he stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for an interview — and to crash a college graduation celebration. He teamed up with Fallon to surprise graduates from Fordham University in New York, and none of them knew they would be seeing the host and Grammy winner. Fallon told the crowd he was there to DJ for them and said, "Congratulations class of '25" as they cheered. "We're gonna get a dance party going," he added. WATCH | The Weeknd and Jimmy Fallon perform at a graduation party: Fallon fumbled around with the DJ equipment before introducing the Weeknd, eliciting screams from the excited crowd. The Weeknd began to sing Blinding Lights before the grads joined in, and Fallon also took a mic and sang along during the chorus. The university mascot, Ramsey, also participated and danced beside the two stars before they started singing Can't Feel My Face. The song became the Weeknd's first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and in his interview with Fallon, the Weeknd attributed some of the song's chart-topping success to Tom Cruise. WATCH | The Weeknd discusses Tom Cruise on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: Cruise performed the song on Fallon's Lip Sync Battle segment back in 2015 and praised the Weeknd's singing talents. "I definitely saw that. It actually helped the song," the Weeknd told Fallon. "It helped it peak to the record-breaking top, thanks to him obviously." Hurry Up Tomorrow wrote in his review that "for all but the most devoted fans (and likely the hate-watchers) this is a hopelessly pointless therapy assignment serving no one but Tesfaye himself."
