'Five Nights at Freddy's 2' trailer teases animatronic horror: Watch
"Five Nights at Freddy's" is leveling up. The sequel to the 2023 horror hit, based on the hugely popular video games, has debuted its first full trailer, teasing more creepy animatronic mayhem — and a "Scream" reunion. Josh Hutcherson returns as former security guard Mike in "Five Nights at Freddy's 2," set one year after the first movie. Since the animatronics at a pizzeria came to life in the original film, "the stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town's first ever Fazfest," the sequel's plot synopsis reveals. But when Mike's sister Abby (Piper Rubio) sneaks out to reconnect with her animatronic friends, it "will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy's, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades," the description adds. Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail and Matthew Lillard return from the 2023 movie, while new cast members include Wayne Knight and Mckenna Grace. Also joining the cast is Skeet Ulrich, reuniting the actor with his "Scream" costar and fellow Ghostface killer, Lillard. 'Five Nights at Freddy's' movie pulls off a Halloween surprise: $130.6 million worldwide The first "Five Nights at Freddy's" was one of the biggest horror hits of 2023, grossing nearly $300 million at the worldwide box office, despite earning largely negative reviews from critics. It came amid a wave of successful video game adaptations on the big and small screen, from "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" in 2023 to "The Last of Us" on HBO, which just released its second season earlier this year. 'Five Nights at Freddy's' repeats at No. 1, Taylor Swift's 'Eras' reaches $231M worldwide But the "Freddy's" sequel will arrive at a key moment for its production company Blumhouse, known for low-budget chillers like "Paranormal Activity" and "The Purge." The company is in need of a hit after the failure of its sequel "M3GAN 2.0," which bombed at the box office in June after the original was a hit three years earlier. 'Five Nights at Freddy's 2' release date "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" is set to hit theaters on Dec. 5, 2025.

Here's The New ‘Five Nights At Freddy's 2' Trailer And Its Release Date
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 Five Nights at Freddy's was an underestimated video game adaptation, where the traditional Hollywood class did not seem to understand its massive appeal among Gen Z. The first film performed so well a sequel was auto-greenlit, and now we have our first trailer for Five Nights at Freddy's 2, which you can see below: The trailer has already gotten a million views in its first three hours with a wild 166,000 to 750 like-to-dislike ratio. That's reflected in my entire gaming timeline being filled with fans combing through every second of the trailer and overwhelmingly getting hyped about the various bits and pieces they've found from the games, praising how they're apparently being adapted. It cannot be overstated just how big of a gaming/horror success the original Five Nights at Freddy's was. The film made $291 million worldwide on a $20 million budget, a 14x multiplier and an industry smash hit. And like many horror properties, the places the game has gone means that there are likely unlimited paths toward future sequels. If they can get these movies out every two years, which seems possible, that's printing money. Five Nights 1 was out in October 2023, while Five Nights at Freddy's 2's release date is December 5, 2025, just over two years later. Even if the second film performs worse than the first, the amount it will make compared to the low budget it may now have should still be wildly profitable. You can make less money and increase costs a bit and this would still be considered a huge hit. Compare this to one of the best horror movies of 2025, Companion, which made a whopping $36 million worldwide. Heart Eyes, also this year, made $33 million. Bring Her Back made $22 million. The only horror movie rocketing out of this class is Sinners with $365 million and I mean, that's not even that much more than the original Five Nights was. Movie or Minecraft, huge, huge earners. It's just not the same thing with that kind of budget and honestly, a more passionate fanbase than either of those who will turn out to ensure this movie makes money, even if it's a few hundred million less than those others. If you want to read the absurdly long, just-released synopsis for Five Nights at Freddy's 2, you can read that below: --- "They're not just at Freddy's anymore. In 2023, Blumhouse's box-office horror phenomenon Five Nights at Freddy's, based on the blockbuster game series by Scott Cawthon, became the highest-grossing horror film of the year. Now, a shocking new chapter of animatronic terror begins. One year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. The stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town's first ever Fazfest. Former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have kept the truth from Mike's 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), concerning the fate of her animatronic friends. But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy's, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades. The cast of Five Nights at Freddy's 2 includes returning co-stars Theodus Crane as Jeremiah and the legendary Matthew Lillard as William Afton. The film features new characters played by Freddy Carter (Shadow and Bone, Pennyworth), Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park, Seinfeld), Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters franchise, Annabelle Comes Home) and horror icon Skeet Ulrich (Scream, Riverdale). Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is directed by acclaimed returning filmmaker Emma Tammi and is written by game series creator Scott Cawthon." Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Josh Hutcherson's Freddy's nightmare returns bloodier, bolder, and packed with new horrors
Freddy Fazbear is back, and he's meaner than ever. The first trailer for Five Nights at Freddy's 2 has fans spiralling into panic mode, with Universal and Blumhouse teasing a darker, bloodier sequel that raises the stakes far beyond the original. The new tagline says it all: Anyone can survive five nights. This time, there will be no second chances. Josh Hutcherson reprises his role as Mike Schmidt, the haunted night guard who barely survived the last round. This time, survival isn't guaranteed. The returning cast includes Matthew Lillard, Elizabeth Lail, and Piper Rubio, with director Emma Tammi also back at the helm, hinting at a more expansive and terrifying world. The first instalment became Blumhouse's biggest box office hit, raking in $297 million globally. Hutcherson admitted the scale of success caught everyone off guard. 'We hoped it would connect with audiences,' he told Variety, 'But I don't think anybody expected it to explode the way it did.' And now, the stakes are even higher. Hutcherson teased in a separate interview that the sequel is much scarier, promising new animatronics and a bigger mythology. 'There's more animatronics being brought in, different animatronics being brought in, and the world just opens up in a big way,' he said. Despite its commercial success, the first film had critics divided. Some felt it didn't fully capitalise on the terrifying animatronics. Variety's own reviewer Murtada Elfadl wrote that the film 'missed the mark on both horror and hilarity.' But FNAF 2 looks intent on correcting that. The trailer delivers a chilling, pulse-pounding look at what's to come, packed with eerie corridors, flickering lights, and menacing new machines. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 opens in cinemas on December 5, and this time, there may be no way out.
