Aberdeen overhaul transfer department as club green light Jimmy Thelin recruitment revolution
The Dons have hired foreign scouts and strengthened their recruitment department with new faces in a bid to unearth the next Bojan Miovski Aberdeen are in the process of strengthening their recruitment and scouting departments as they look to bolster Jimmy Thelin 's squad again this summer. Ross Clarkson has come in from Motherwell, where he was head of performance analysis. He played an important role in helping to identify talent at Fir Park. Clarkson had previously worked with Aberdeen chief executive Alan Burrows at Motherwell. The Dons put Nuno de Almeida in as head of recruitment in December and since then there has been a review of that side of the operation. Aberdeen will now invest more in that department as they look to find the future Bojan Miovskis and Ylber Ramadanis, who they can develop and sell on for seven-figure fees. They are now set to add a number of overseas scouts to their operation. Former Swedish international Erik Edman is amongst them as the Pittodrie side look to try to unearth new talent. Aberdeen's recruitment strategy has been pretty global in recent seasons but they have also upped the ant in the domestic markets. The Dons know they will need to address that if they qualify for Europe, while they are also looking at young emerging Scottish talent with one eye on the future. Aberdeen have already started work on their summer recruitment, signing Nicolas Milanovic from Western Sydney Wanderers and Nick Suman from Cove Rangers. Sean Wallace: Why Aberdeen should launch an audacious loan bid for Bojan Miovski
Aberdeen should launch an audacious move to secure Bojan Miovski on a short-term loan until the January transfer window. Miovski has struggled to make the expected impact in the Spanish top flight following his club record £6.8million transfer from Aberdeen to Girona last summer. The former Dons' goal hero has scored only four times for Girona with two of those coming against lower league Extremadura in the Copa del Rey. Reports emerging from Spain claim there are doubts over Miovski's future at Girona following a frustrating debut season. The North Macedonian international played only 20 minutes of Girona's final 10 La Liga matches as they successfully battled to avoid relegation. It is a surprise Miovski hasn't made a major impact at Girona as he is a class act. The summer transfer window could be the time to launch an ambitious bid to take Miovski back to Pittodrie on a short-term loan deal. It would be very much an outside chance but if you don't ask, you don't get. Aberdeen landed European Cup winner Hans Gilhaus from PSV Eindhoven and Charlie Nicholas from Arsenal because they had the vision and ambition to ask. Different eras… but same ethos. Miovski clearly has an affection for Aberdeen after his two seasons at the club. In an emotional farewell message following his transfer to Girona the striker said: 'Once a Don, always a Don.' It could be time to bring him back…. if certain factors fall into place (I did say it was a long shot!). A permanent move for the striker would be way beyond Aberdeen's budget as Miovski is contracted until summer 2028. Despite a dearth of goals in his debut season Miovski will still be valued in the multi-millions by Girona. His wages would also be well beyond the budget of the Dons. But could Girona pay a substantial chunk of wages to limit the outlay by the loan club? Reports in Spain claim Girona manager Michel and the club's sporting directors plan to speak to Miovski, and other players, about their future during the summer. If Miovski is unlikely to get game time in the new season a short-term loan to Aberdeen should be looked at as a potential option. Obviously any slim potential of a loan hinges on Miovski not being sold in the summer. In Aberdeen's favour they can offer guaranteed European league action. The Dons enter the Europa League at the play-off stage. If the Reds win the play off they enter the Europa League with a further eight guaranteed games until mid January. Should the Dons lose the play-off there is the safety-net of parachuting into the Conference League, with league games until mid December. A loan deal could be the best outcome for all three parties, Aberdeen, Miovski and Girona. Aberdeen provided a platform when signing Miovski for £535,000 from Hungarian club MTK Budapest in summer 2022. Starring for the Dons in Europe on loan could again provide a launch pad to propel Miovski back into the starting line-up at Girona. Or on to the radar of clubs who can afford to splash multi-millions to sign the striker. Aberdeen would win by having an attacker who has a track record at the club of scoring at domestic and European level. Girona win because if Miovski shines they get a player back in form on a high after regular Euro action – who can make an impact in Spain or be sold on.

Ex-Aberdeen star Bojan Miovski's Girona nightmare could be OVER
THE striker could be on the move again, only a year after he left Scotland ABERDEEN let North Macedonian striker Bojan Miovski leave the north-east for a club record fee last year. The talisman left Scotland for Champions League football with Girona, after the Dons did everything they could to hold on to their star man. 2 Bojan Miovski's Girona career hasn't went as planned so far 2 He left Aberdeen for the Catalan side for a fee of around £6million, Aberdeen's record departure Credit: SNS He earned his move after a stellar spell with Aberdeen, scoring 44 goals in 98 matches, but he had big shoes to fill on the continent. Ukranian forward Artem Dovbyk left Girona for Roma that summer and the former Dons man was brought in to replace the prolific forward. Miovski has not lived up to the high expectations that were set for his move in his debut year though. He has only netted a mere four times for Girona, two of which came against fifth tier side, CD Extremadura, and set up two goals in 25 matches. In the last 10 La Liga matches of the season, the striker only managed 20 minutes of football as his side battled for survival, which has left his future well and truly up in the air. According to AS, Girona chiefs are set for some tough talks in the off-season, with Miovski not excluded from the list. He is under contract until 2028, meaning it won't be easy to find the 25-year-old a new suitor. His transfer value has dropped significantly after his poor season, with the forward now valued at £2.5million, according to Transfermarkt, over £3million less than what he left Aberdeen for. Both Celtic and Rangers were said to be interested when the striker was on Aberdeen's books. Birmingham City were among other clubs outside of the old-firm pair who tried for his signature, before he penned with the Catalan side. Aberdeen's Scottish Cup-winning heroes greeted by thousands on open top bus parade through the city after beating Celtic Girona avoided relegation by just ONE point this season, dropping off from the heights of Champions League the season before. A huge rebuild could be on the cards for the club as they try and climb back up the table next year, and Miovski could very well be one of the players moved on. Aberdeen ex transfer chief delighted to see Pape Gueye come good as due diligence on Hampden hero pays off
Darren Mowbray watched Hampden hero Pape Gueye knock Anderlecht and Club Brugge defenders about and knew he would be perfect for leading the Aberdeen attack. The former Dons head of recruitment was at Hampden on Saturday to watch his old side see off Hearts and to book their place in the Scottish Cup final. Mowbray, who is set to leave his top recruitment role at Southampton , was delighted to see several of the gems he had brought to Aberdeen were still shining. He brought the likes of Bojan Miovski and Ylber Ramadani to Pittodrie and were sold on for million pound fees and the North Macedonian went for a club record sale. Mowbray was delighted to see Gueye play a massive part in the Reds opening goal as his towering header hit the bar, came off Craig Gordon and dropped in the net at Hampden. Mowbray brought the Senegal striker to the attention of Barry Robson in the summer of 2023 because he wanted to bring some strength, power and pace to his Dons frontline. The Dons paid around £500,000 to get him from Belgian side KV Kortrijk. 'He's one that we watched for probably all of that season previously,' Mowbray confirmed. 'We knew Bojan Miovski was going to go sooner or later. 'I just remember Barry wanted some size, power and speed. Pape met the profile of what Barry wanted. 'It's all about profiling what you want to sign and what you need in the team and squad. You then need to go out and find the right profiles. 'The ones who you think will fit and present them to the coach. It is then up to the manager to make his decision. 'We watched Pape most of that season and he'd done well against Club Brugge and Anderlecht and clubs like that. So if you can perform against that level of teams then we felt it should transition to Scottish football.' Gueye's played a big part in the first goal, as did another of Mowbray's finds in Leighton Clarkson, who took the corner. He identified the playmaker who first came up on loan under Jim Goodwin before he signed on a permanent basis from Liverpool. Winger Shayden Morris was another of Jimmy Thelin's Hampden starters. The winger has forced his way into the Aberdeen starting XI in recent weeks and has also made himself a favourite with the Red Army. Jim Goodwin brought him in from Fleetwood Town and Mowbray admitted he was always seen as a longer term project. 'You're buying someone who's got potential,' the talent spotter admitted. 'I didn't expect him when he first signed to go straight in the team and rip it up against Celtic and Rangers. 'You're buying someone that needs coaching but he's got the raw attributes. If you can coach him and get the best out of him then he could do well as we are seeing now.' Jet-heeled 'Shady Mo' came on to the Aberdeen radar because Mowbray had previously looked at him in his previous role at Burnley. He admitted: 'I just liked his attributes. He's lightning quick. Everybody could see that. 'I probably watched him six times when I was at Burnley. I thought he's maybe not at Burnley's level in the Premier League but he could be a very good player. 'I remember one game against Burton Albion he tore his marker to when Jim was looking for a winger I put Shayden forward. 'For him, when you're that quick and then when you've added the end product, which he seems to be doing this season, then defenders will be scared of you and so will opposition teams. 'If he can isolate himself against a defender then he's going to beat most people, isn't he? 'We are starting to see Shayden fulfil his potential at Aberdeen, which is great to see.' Mowbray joined Aberdeen in 2021 and was there for two years before he was headhunted by Southampton in 2023.
