Joey Bosa says he's hung out with new Bills teammates more than any other in career

For the first time in his professional career, five-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Joey Bosa is playing for a new team. And that's not the only new first of his career. "I hung out more with teammates in Buffalo in the 6 weeks I was here than probably my entire career," the 10-year NFL veteran defensive end said to the press. Bosa joined the Bills on a one-year deal. One in which he's hoping to buck the trends of his past injury history and compete for a championship with a playoff contender. His comments on hanging out with his teammates read as consistent with what's known about the Bills roster, that they spend much of their time together off the field, forging a strong bond that translates to the locker room and onto the field in game play as well. The adjustment to his new team as well as to Western New York has been a good one for the 30-year-old and his family. "It's nice, it gets repetitive every year the same thing over and over again, I mean I loved my time with the Chargers and I wouldn't trade it for anything, but I think it was just getting a little redundant, especially with my injuries the last few years, I needed a fresh start, and new scenery, so it's been a really pleasant surprise, getting to know Buffalo and Orchard Park, it's been beautiful," Bosa shared. "I have a yard, I have space to live and my dog can run around and we've got families of geese in the backyard that we've been following, my fiancée loves it, the fans are amazing unless you're at dinner and they're screaming mid dinner, I can't remember the song (probably shout) but it was quite the experience." Buffalo won't need him to play every snap, as they have defensive end depth to keep his workload manageable so as to maximise his opportunities to remain healthy and impact games. They are hoping he can form a dynamic threat across from edge rusher Greg Rousseau, and with A.J. Epenesa and Landon Jackson in their rotation. The group provides the Bills with tremendous defensive length against opponents (Jackson - 33 1/4" arms, Epenesa - 34 1/2" arms, Walker - 34 1/4" arms, Bosa - 33 3/8" arms). "I'm gonna try to be the player that I've always been," he noted. "Like I mentioned, stay healthy, I think I can be dominant still. I'm still only just 30. I'm not washed just yet. I'm getting there, but I got a little bit longer." The veteran pass rusher reached the playoffs three times in nine years with the Chargers, including two wild-card round exits. Buffalo, meanwhile, has made the playoffs in seven of the last eight years and is a Super Bowl contender. "Let's hope I don't mess that up now," Bosa added. "Hopefully, I can be a tool to help push it over that edge to get to the place that obviously everybody here has their eyes set on. It's fun coming to an organization that has been there and done it. They all have a really common goal, and we all know what that is. Every team has that same goal, but not every team has the same chance of actually achieving that goal. So yeah, it's exciting. I just want to do anything I can to help the team win, and hopefully we just continue the success." I mean, he's a dog. He's everything I've seen watching him, like when he was on the Chargers, you know? So, it's fun to be out there with a with a guy like that," Rousseau said about his new teammate after Monday's practice. "It's a blessing. Also, just a really cool dude. Off the field, we have conversations about random stuff every day. When asked what stands out about Bosa, he also noted his work ethic and attitude. 'He's consistent, you know what I'm saying? The way he just comes to work, has a good attitude," Rousseau added. "Obviously, his experience, you know, so I mean, we're really happy to have him." Bosa is embracing the fresh start and the high expectations that come with joining a championship contender in Buffalo, and is confident in what he has to offer. "I think I still have a lot left to give playing-wise, not just wisdom-wise," he said. "As long as I stay healthy like we're talked about, which I'm going to do everything in my power to do that and be as helpful as I can to this team, I think I can go out there and have a great year."

49ers superstar taking on an important new role in 2025

After a down year, the San Francisco 49ers saw some key veterans leave the team over the last few months, including wide receiver Deebo Samuel in a trade and edge rusher Leonard Floyd, cornerback Charvarius Ward and linebacker Dre Greenlaw in free agent. With those established voices leaving the locker room, the 49ers will need other veterans to step up and take on a leadership role, and defensive end Nick Bosa is doing his best to be one of them in 2025. 'I definitely need to take a leadership role, for sure,' Bosa told The Athletic's Vic Tafur. 'It's one thing to come in and work on my job and get better, which is all I've ever really worried about. And then it's another thing to try and bring everybody along with you. So it's definitely something that I'm thinking about and something I want to do.' While Bosa has some teammates returning from last year's roster, including Yetur Gross-Matos, Robert Beal, Sam Okuayinomu, Jonathan Garvin and Tarron Jackson (who was carted off of the field during a practice session over the weekend), he's also joined by two newcomers - Bryce Huff and Mykel Williams. The 49ers traded for Huff this offseason, so he's not a young player entering the league for the first time, but Williams was San Francisco's first-round pick this year, and he could greatly benefit from Bosa's advice. Through the first few days of training camp, the five-time Pro Bowler and the team's top selection have spent some time together, and they seem to be enjoying their time. 'I mean it's just friendly banter, but some of it is constructive criticism,' Bosa said. 'Obviously, it's fun to watch a young guy just go through the growing pains that I went through — and anything that I see I'm going to help them with.' Williams is entering the league as a 21-year-old who didn't have a ton of success in bringing down opposing quarterbacks in college (14 sacks in 40 games over three seasons). Still, Bosa likes what he sees from the rookie and knows exactly what he needs to work on. 'Mykel's looked really good,' Bosa said. 'He is very physical and he has a big reach, so he just needs to hone in obviously on his aiming points and trusting the system.' If Williams is going to reach his potential, Bosa's help could get him get there quicker. More 49ers: 49ers CB addresses offseason arrest in recent media availability

Bills' Joey Bosa gives positive injury update

Buffalo Bills pass rusher Joey Bosa is feeling upbeat about his injury situation early on in his career in western New York. Bosa, 30, came to Buffalo after a few injury filled years with the Los Angeles Chargers. A calf injury happened early during his first season in Buffalo's minicamp. Even so, Bosa gave himself a clean bill of heath during Bills training camp. "I feel great," Bosa said. Last year I felt great, but this year I feel tip top." Following the Bills' decision to release Von Miller, Bosa was signed to provide the veteran presence on Buffalo's defensive line. The Bills are hoping Bosa can re-gain his health and Pro Bowl status. From the outside looking in, head coach Sean McDermott gave a positive update on Bosa from training camp as well. "Couldn't be more happy with the work that he's put in to come back healthy and ready to go," McDermott said. For more from Bosa, see the attached clip below:

ESPN: Which Bills player is under the most pressure in 2025?

The Buffalo Bills signed Joey Bosa to a one-year, $12 million contract this spring. Bosa was Buffalo's marquee signing for the defense this offseason. The hope is that Bosa can make a major impact on the defensive line in 202, helping elevate the defense and finally bring the Bills back to the Super Bowl for the first time in over three decades. The Bills are taking a calculated risk with signing Bosa. The veteran pass rusher has played in only 28 games total over the past three seasons. He has missed time due to groin, foot, and hip injuries during this time. Still, the allure of bringing a pass rush specialist was too much to overlook for Buffalo. A healthy Bosa could catapult Buffalo's defense into the elite range in the NFL. With all of this in mind, Bosa has been named a player who has "a ton riding on the next six months" by ESPN's Bill Barnwell. Barnwell highlights Bosa's current situation with the Bills: For Bosa, the time to prove he can still wreck opposing quarterbacks is right now. Having turned 30 this month, he is at a career crossroads. After missing significant time over his final three seasons in Los Angeles, he was forced to take a pay cut to stay on the roster in 2024 before being cut this spring. With the Bills still looking for a special pass rusher to get them over the hump, he essentially replaced Miller on the roster by signing a one-year deal for $12 million, with incentives that could add up to $3 million more if he stays healthy and racks up 12 sacks. Bosa has reached double-digit sacks in four seasons. Bosa has completed a full slate of games three times in his NFL career; in each season, he exceeded the 10-sack total. Bosa has earned five Pro Bowl nods, and he was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2016. Bosa slots in as the top right defensive end on Buffalo's depth chart. His presence should help the defense as a whole. Greg Rousseau, who will play the edge position opposite Bosa, should see an uptick in his production, as offensive lines will need to adjust for multiple promising pass rushers. Furthermore, the Bills should be able to get pressure from four defensive linemen, opening up options for Buffalo's pass defense. This, of course, can only happen if Bosa is on the field. The Joey Bosa era in Buffalo has started ominously, as he suffered a calf injury on the second day of OTAs. Bosa has returned to health and participated in all of the Bills training camp sessions thus far. Buffalo will undoubtedly monitor Bosa's reps during training camp, doing everything in the team's power to keep him on the field. Bosa has a lot to gain this year, if he can put together a healthy and productive 2025 campaign. Barnwell adds, "If Bosa can stay healthy and make a significant dent on opposing quarterbacks during a deep Buffalo playoff run, he would be in position to sign one more deal with a significant multiyear guarantee. If not, he's probably going to be looking at more one-year pacts."
