Louth girls ready for kick-off as they chase Gaynor Cup glory in top Limerick tournament

The academy's 2011 squad (under-14s) are testing themselves against elite teams from across the country in Ireland's premier underage football tournament, which takes place at the University of Limerick. The Louth girls' group campaign kicks off against Kilkenny this Monday at 6pm, followed by a double header tomorrow as they take on Mayo at noon and Tipperary South at 6pm. All teams in the competition then progress to the various knockout matches which run from Wednesday until Friday, with a Cup, Shield, Bowl and Trophy all up for grabs. Louth's campaign officially kicked off last Thursday with a special Gaynor Cup launch night at the Monasterboice Inn, to mark the beginning of what promises to be a thrilling journey through the iconic national tournament. To celebrate their selection, each squad member was presented with their official squad number and kit, whilst the coaching staff overseeing the trip were introduced. Head coach and LSGL chairperson Robbie Corr said: 'The Gaynor Cup is the pinnacle of U14 girls' football in Ireland, and our squad is full of talent, ambition and pride in representing Louth.' 'Everyone at the LSGL would like to thank all our sponsors for supporting the squad as they head to such a prestigious tournament. We hope the girls enjoy a brilliant and memorable tournament and we wish them the best of luck.' Mick Neville, FAI regional development officer for Co Louth, said: 'This is more than football. It's about teamwork, opportunity and inspiring the next generation of female athletes.' Steelers' Pro Bowler trade buzz shot down by insider Ian Rapoport

Steelers' Pro Bowler trade buzz shot down by insider Ian Rapoport Steelers trade buzz burns bright — but flames out just as fast. Insider Adam Schefter broke the news that the Dolphins and Steelers engaged in trade talks regarding Miami's Pro Bowl TE Jonnu Smith — and while it was surprising, insider Ian Rapoport believes it's unlikely anything more will come of it. In a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rapoport was asked how real the trade news really was — and here's what he had to say: 'I think Jonnu Smith wants to make money,' Rapoport said. 'He is actually a part of what the Dolphins want to do. It feels to me that he wants more money and would like to stay [with the Dolphins]. I know he wants a lot — we'll see what [the Dolphins] end up doing.' Hopefully nothing more comes out of the trade speculation, as Steelers TEs Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington are underrated pieces of Pittsburgh's offense — and paying the soon-to-be 30-year-old Smith a massive extension makes zero sense for the Steel City brand of football. Old Town Arts Festival returns: Here's all the events you shouldn't miss

One of Swindon's biggest festivals, which made its comeback last year, is preparing to hit the streets again with over 30 events. The Old Town Arts Festival had been a key event on Swindon's calendar for more than 24 years, but it was put on hold in 2020 when the world entered a global pandemic. After making a successful comeback in 2024, the festival is now preparing to return to town from Saturday, June 1, 2025, for a whole week of free or cheap family events. The festival will kick off at the start of June with a family fun day in Town Gardens offering food, drink, live music, workshops, market stalls and more. Celebrations will then continue throughout the week with a variety of fringe events, all centred around the arts, before concluding on June 8 with a street party for all on Wood Street. Wood Street celebrations were a hit with locals in 2024 (Image: Newsquest) "In 2025, we would like the festival to be a wider platform for local talent, artists, organisations and provide a bigger opportunity for the community to be engaged in the festival through workshops, events, and sessions," said a spokesperson for the Old Town association. "A variety of locations and activities will be on offer, whilst honouring the spirit and essence of what the festival was all about - bringing Old Town together." L.A. Weekend Guide: Monsterpalooza, Ricky Gervais at the Bowl, Crime Scene Live

L.A. Weekend Guide: Monsterpalooza, Ricky Gervais at the Bowl, Crime Scene Live originally appeared on L.A. Mag. Every Thursday, Los Angeles magazine curates a list of the best events in and around Los Angeles. Craft a great last-minute schedule with our Weekend Guide to L.A., and don't forget to sign up to have the guide delivered to your inbox every week by clicking HEREMonsterpalooza at the Pasadena Convention Center — May 30-June 1Since 2009, monster lovers have come together to celebrate the magic and nostalgia of the horror genre at this creepy convention. Cool vendors, engaging demos and a focused approach to the art of creating practical effects and the creatures that haunt our nightmares, make the three-day con a must for fans of scary stuff. Fans of true crime should head over to this immersive live show led by retired LAPD homicide detective Don Tabak and produced by Jeff Timmons (98 Degrees) and Erich Recker (Criss Angel: Mindfreak). Fresh cases like Karen Read, the Idaho Four, or the Menendez Brothers are referenced and older ones OJ, the Hillside Strangler, and John Belushi get the full interactive treatment, from forensic clues to psychological profiles, all at the hotel's famed Panorama Suite. (Weekend dates available through July) The comedian and actor's last performance at the Bowl broke the Guinness World Record for the highest-grossing single stand-up performance ever, and his new show called 'Mortality' is set to be just as successful. Delving into heady topics like death and aging, expect Gervais' signature acerbic wit and uncensored hot takes. Older Native Angelenos, especially Latinos, know and love radio legend Art Laboe, whose oldies and dedication-driven shows spoke for a generation. He passed away in 2022, but you can still hear his old shows (with new dedications!) on KDAY. For a more immersive oldies n' soul jams experience, check out this tribute night at Footsies bar. We loved seeing them discuss their beginnings in the recent doc Becoming Led Zeppelin, but the likelihood that the remaining members might share a stage together again is slim. This Jason Bonham tribute show is the next best thing, and worth it for fans as the drummer definitely inherited his dad John's skills on the skins. Michael Gorman's 'Grit and Grace' Bruce Lurie Gallery — May 31The Bruce Lurie Gallery, which burned down in the recent LA wildfires in Pacific Palisades, hosts its first major art show in a new Santa Monica location exhibiting the vibrant work of Gorman, a contemporary abstract painter based in L.A. The Academy Museum explores the idea of over the top 'guilty pleasures' on film with this audacious series, beginning on Sunday with Mommie Dearest, going on all month long. This story was originally reported by L.A. Mag on May 29, 2025, where it first appeared.
