Superman becomes biggest Tuesday hit of 2025, crosses $250 million globally
DC Studios' Superman is off to a flying start—both critically and commercially. The film, starring David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, has stormed the box office, raking in $17.12 million on its first Tuesday (day 5) in North America. This makes it the highest-grossing Tuesday of 2025, overtaking major releases like Lilo & Stitch, Jurassic World Rebirth, and A Minecraft Movie. The film's Tuesday jump of 32.7% from Monday's $12.9 million was fuelled by discounted ticket prices across theatres, a trend that significantly boosted weekday footfall. As per Box Office Mojo, Superman has now grossed $155.04 million domestically and $95 million overseas, pushing its global total to $250.04 million in just five days. Top Tuesday box office earners of 2025 (North America): Superman – $17.12M Lilo & Stitch – $15.2M Jurassic World Rebirth – $15.05M A Minecraft Movie – $12.76M With rave reviews from both critics and audiences, Superman is proving to be a successful launchpad for James Gunn's reimagined DC Universe (DCU). The film marks a fresh start for the franchise and appears to have won back fan trust after a series of underwhelming DC outings in recent years. Directed by Gunn and reportedly made on a $225 million budget, the superhero epic also stars Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi, and Anthony Carrigan. The film released worldwide on July 11 and is currently playing in cinemas. If early numbers are anything to go by, this reboot isn't just flying — it's soaring. Superman India box office Day 6: Slows slightly midweek Superman continues to perform decently at the Indian box office, despite a slight midweek dip in collections. On Day 6 (Wednesday), the James Gunn-directed superhero reboot earned an estimated ₹2.02 crore across all languages, pushing its total India net collection to approximately ₹33.62 crore. After a strong opening weekend haul of around ₹26 crore, the film saw a predictable drop on Monday, collecting about ₹2.6 crore. It held steady on Tuesday with earnings of around ₹3 crore, followed by a mild dip on Wednesday. Despite the weekday slowdown, Superman is maintaining a respectable run in India, supported by positive word of mouth and the film's significance as the first chapter in the new DC Universe. With the weekend ahead, box office momentum could pick up again.

Lilo & Stitch Box Office Set To Be 1st Billion-Dollar Hollywood Movie of 2025
Disney's live-action movie is inching closer to the billion-dollar mark at the box office. Passing this milestone would make it the first Hollywood movie of 2025 to make a billion at the box office. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the film features a talented cast, including Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Chris Sanders as the voice of Stitch, and Sydney Agudong. The 2025 Lilo & Stitch movie is getting closer to grossing $1 billion globally at the box office. According to Box Office Mojo, the Disney live-action adaptation has grossed over $994 million at the worldwide box office at the time of writing, just $6 million away from the milestone. $414 million of the total comes from US theaters, which accounts for 41.7 percent of the total gross. It has also amassed an estimated $579 million from international markets, which makes up 58.3 percent of the total collection. The movie has been raking in huge numbers at the box office for approximately eight weeks now. Despite facing competition from newly released movies like Brad Pitt's F1, Scarlett Johansson's Jurassic World Rebirth, and James Gunn's recently released Superman, Lilo & Stitch has managed to continue adding to its box office haul. Following its massive success, Disney greenlit a sequel to the movie on June 26th, which is also known as 626 day. The day is celebrated as a reference to Stitch, who is also known as Experiment 626. After the film's initial success, Disney's co-Chairman, Alan Bergman, said, 'The love that people have for Lilo & Stitch continues to grow, and the goal with this new retelling was for audiences to be able to enjoy these characters on the big screen again and hopefully have just as much fun watching it as we had making it.'

Apple bids for Formula 1 US streaming rights, Business Insider reports
FILE PHOTO: Apple logo is seen on the Apple store at The Marche Saint Germain in Paris, France July 15, 2020. REUTERS/Gonzalo Fuentes/File Photo (Reuters) -Apple has submitted a bid worth at least $150 million a year for the U.S. rights to stream Formula 1 races starting in 2026, Business Insider reported on Friday, citing a source familiar with the negotiations. The iPhone-maker is poised to win the rights as the leading bidder, the report said, as Walt Disney's ESPN, which currently holds the rights, will not try to match or beat it. Apple declined a Reuters request for comment, while F1 and its owner Liberty Media did not immediately respond. The news follows Apple's success with its "F1: The Movie" film starring Brad Pitt, that has grossed over $300 million worldwide as of Friday, according to IMDb's Box Office Mojo. ESPN holds the U.S. broadcast rights for these races through the year's season, though Reuters has reported in February that its exclusivity period to negotiate a new contract with F1 has expired. Apple eyes US Formula 1 broadcast rights after 'F1: The Movie' success: FT reports
Apple is in talks to acquire U.S. broadcast rights to screen Formula 1 racing when the contract becomes available next year, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. The report follows the strong performance of Apple's high-octane Brad Pitt-starrer " F1: The Movie ", which has grossed more than $300 million in worldwide box office collection as of Wednesday, according to IMDb's Box Office Mojo. Currently, Walt Disney's ESPN holds the exclusive U.S. broadcast rights for F1 through the 2025 season. However, ESPN's exclusivity period to negotiate a new contract with F1 expired, sources told Reuters in February, opening the door for new bidders. Apple and F1 did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment. Apple is aiming to capitalize on the sport's growing popularity in the U.S. which was also driven by the success of Netflix's hit docu-series "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" that provided an engaging behind-the-scenes look at the sport. Netflix is also among the contenders for the F1 U.S. broadcasting rights from the 2026 season, according to media reports in February. Apple TV+, known for original shows such as "Ted Lasso", "The Morning Show", "Shrinking" and "Severance", has been trailing behind competitors like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video in subscriber numbers, and acquiring F1 rights could help boost its sports content offering. Streaming platforms are investing heavily in exclusive rights to dominate the lucrative live sports market to drive subscriber growth and increase ad dollars in an increasingly competitive landscape. Netflix paid more than $5 billion to be the exclusive home of World Wrestling Entertainment's "Raw" in several territories from January this year.
