Lucky pull: Gambler wins $1.8 million on $5 bet from slot machine at Vegas airport

A lucky Las Vegas tourist hit the jackpot after turning a $5 bet into $1.8m while playing the slots at the city's airport. The slot player defied the long odds on a Wheel of Fortune Gold Spin Triple Red Hot 7s machine by the D Gates at Harry Reid International Airport on May 24. The total winnings came out to $1,816,404.94. Officials did not release the identity of the individual or additional information. In another bet this month, a California visitor left a casino with a huge prize after hitting a Wheel of Fortune progressive slot machine jackpot at the Fremont, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Winner winner chicken dinner! A lucky traveler hit $1.8 MILLION jackpot on Wheel of Fortune in the D Gates over the weekend! 💸✈️ #lasvegas #jackpot #LASAirport — Harry Reid International Airport (@LASairport) May 27, 2025 The slots player walked away $416,949 richer on Friday after hitting a Wheel of Fortune progressive slot machine jackpot at the Fremont, according to a Boyd Gaming spokesperson. The visitor had reportedly made a $1.75 bet around 10.20 p.m. on May 23. The players are defying the odds. The chances of winning big on slot machines are some of the worst, with a one-in-5,000 to one-in-about-34-million chance of taking home the top prize with a maximum coin play. The biggest ever slots win took place in March 2003, when a 25-year-old software engineer from Los Angeles won $39.7 million playing the Megabucks slot machine at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino.

NORFOLK — Casino operator Boyd Gaming has pledged $1 million in support of Norfolk State University's Tourism & Hospitality Management program. Boyd Gaming is at helm of the Norfolk casino project planned by the Pamunkey Indian Tribe. Construction of the casino next to Harbor Park is underway and is expected to be completed in late 2027. A transitional gaming facility is scheduled to open at the end of this year. The Nevada-based company will become the title sponsor of the hospitality program in the Norfolk State University's School of Business. It will be called the Boyd Gaming Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management. 'Since we broke ground on our Norfolk casino resort project last year, Boyd Gaming and the Pamunkey Tribe have been committed to building a mutually beneficial partnership with our neighbors at Norfolk State University,' said Ron Bailey, Vice President and General Manager of the Norfolk casino, in a news release on Friday. 'We look forward to working closely with our friends and partners at NSU in the years ahead as we build a best-in-class team, and create exciting career opportunities for Norfolk State graduates at our resort.' The department will prepare the next generation of gaming professionals, said Javaune Adams-Gaston, President of Norfolk State University, in the release. The $750 million casino will employ approximately 850 people in a variety of roles, including information technology, accounting, hospitality, security and gaming. It will feature 1,500 slot machines and 50 table games, a 200-room hotel, eight food and beverage outlets, live entertainment and a 45,000-square-foot outdoor amenity deck. Boyd and the Pamunkey Tribe have also pledged grants to Old Dominion University and Tidewater Community College to support educational and training opportunities in support of the Norfolk casino's needs, according to Boyd. Earnings To Watch: Caesars Entertainment (CZR) Reports Q1 Results Tomorrow

Hotel and casino entertainment company Caesars Entertainment (NASDAQ:CZR) will be reporting earnings tomorrow afternoon. Here's what investors should know. Caesars Entertainment missed analysts' revenue expectations by 1.1% last quarter, reporting revenues of $2.80 billion, flat year on year. It was a very strong quarter for the company, with a solid beat of analysts' EPS estimates and an impressive beat of analysts' adjusted operating income estimates. Is Caesars Entertainment a buy or sell going into earnings? Read our full analysis here, it's free. This quarter, analysts are expecting Caesars Entertainment's revenue to grow 1.8% year on year to $2.79 billion, a reversal from the 3.1% decrease it recorded in the same quarter last year. Adjusted loss is expected to come in at -$0.18 per share. Analysts covering the company have generally reconfirmed their estimates over the last 30 days, suggesting they anticipate the business to stay the course heading into earnings. Caesars Entertainment has missed Wall Street's revenue estimates five times over the last two years. Looking at Caesars Entertainment's peers in the consumer discretionary segment, some have already reported their Q1 results, giving us a hint as to what we can expect. Monarch delivered year-on-year revenue growth of 3.1%, beating analysts' expectations by 2.1%, and Boyd Gaming reported revenues up 3.2%, topping estimates by 2.1%. Monarch traded up 2.2% following the results while Boyd Gaming was also up 4.6%. Read our full analysis of Monarch's results here and Boyd Gaming's results here. The outlook for 2025 remains clouded by potential trade policy changes and corporate tax discussions, which could impact business confidence and growth. While some of the consumer discretionary stocks have shown solid performance in this choppy environment, the group has generally underperformed, with share prices down 5.7% on average over the last month. Caesars Entertainment is up 13.6% during the same time and is heading into earnings with an average analyst price target of $43.20 (compared to the current share price of $28.40). Unless you've been living under a rock, it should be obvious by now that generative AI is going to have a huge impact on how large corporations do business. While Nvidia and AMD are trading close to all-time highs, we prefer a lesser-known (but still profitable) semiconductor stock benefiting from the rise of AI.
