Eek! The new Brabus AMG GT 63 ‘1,000' is quicker to 62mph than a McLaren W1

Eek! The new Brabus AMG GT 63 '1,000' is quicker to 62mph than a McLaren W1 Brabus decides the big, bad Merc AMG GT needs to be bigger and badder. Yikes Skip 19 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 19 Brabus has announced an even lairier spin on the catchily-titled Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance with this new '1000' version. As you can probably guess, that means its twin-turbo hybrid V8 produces exactly… 986bhp. That's 1,000PS, of course. An equally impressive 1,195lb ft of torque is the other headline figure, and allows Brabus' take on the 2+2, four-wheel drive super coupe to get from 0-62mph in 2.6s. Off the line, that makes it faster than the new McLaren W1 hypercar. Keep your foot planted for another 21s and you'll see 186mph before bouncing off the 198mph limiter. Advertisement - Page continues below Generous amounts of carbon fibre have been used across the exterior for even more drama: namely on the front splitter, nostrils and wheel arches, as well as the mirror covers and rear diffuser. Finishing touches include a 76mm stainless steel quad-exhaust, 21/22in 10-spoke forged alloys, plus a neat rear wing. Menacing colour palette too, no? The gloss black look is accentuated by red brake calipers, and the AMG GT's body is now perched 20mm lower to the ground thanks to a set of height-adjustable sports springs. It's a similar theme inside, where the gorgeously quilted leather upholstery gets flying saucer-like patternation. The centre console is teemed with more carbon, while Brabus logos adorn the headrests and steering wheel. The red used here looks even shinier than that outside, and really makes the cabin pop. Pricing is under wraps for now and will likely fluctuate a fair bit depending on the finishes, but do consider the less-powerful Brabus '750' already starts at an eye-watering £262k. Outrageous Horsepower For Brabus 1000 V8 Hybrid Supercar

The Brabus 1000. When the Mercedes-AMG 63S E Performance just isn't outrageous enough. Photo: ... More Brabus. Brabus I mean, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63S E Performance is nice and all, but have you seen the Brabus 1000? That's what a 1000hp supercar from Brabus looks like. The northern German tuning house has been on a power-hungry tear recently, and the two-seat, Mercedes-based Brabus 1000 supercar coupe stands at the current peak of Brabus' outrageousness. With 1000 metric horsepower (or 986 US horsepower) and 1342 ft-lb of torque, the Brabus 1000 has enough gristle from its ludricrously overstuffed powertrain to hit 62mph in 2.6 seconds, 124mph in 9.2 seconds and 186mph (300km/h) in 23.6 seconds. Its top speed is limited to 320km/h (199mph). The four three-inch exhaust tips can at least be switched into a "coming home" quite mode. The ... More visuals of the wing and diffuser cannot. Photo: Brabus. Brabus Known for extracting comical performance numbers from, especially, Mercedes-Benz-based vehicles, Brabus has expanded to other brands, but still returns to its favourite game of moving Mercedes-AMG from the flagship of Mercedes-Benz performance to the mid-range. They've enlarged the 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 to 4.5 liters, giving it 184hp (181 US hp) more than the peak AMG version. It matches this with a 150kW (201hp) electric motor, all punched through a strengthened version of the GT's nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system. Priced at $516,000, the Brabus 1000 also comes with digital proof of authenticity, with Brabus being part of the Aura Blockchain Consortium that includes Cartier, Prada and LVMH. That Engine All the power increase over the AMG version has come from enlarging the 4.0-liter engine to 4.5 ... More liters of twin-turbo brutality. Photo: Brabus. Brabus Extra capacity has always been the preferred pathway to power for Brabus, and the V8's bore was enlarged to 84mm (3.3 inches) to move it from 3982cc to 4407cc. It uses matching forged pistons to fill the wider holes, and there are forged connecting rods that have added 100mm (3.9 inches) to the stroke length, and a precision-balanced, billet-aluminium crankshaft to take all that performance. It uses Brabus' own stainless-steel exhaust, complete with metal catalysts and a particulate filter, and butterfly exhaust flaps give the driver a choice between everything from 'coming home' quiet mode to the loudest track mode. The V8 itself delivers 585kW (785 US hp) of power and, from just 2,900rpm, 1250Nm (922 lb-ft) of torque. Brabus limits that stupendous torque to 1050Nm (774 lb-ft) in the production car to preserve the powertrain and minimize wheelspin. It's similar story with the overall peak torque of 1,820Nm (1,342lb-ft), which has been limited to 1620Nm (1,195lb-ft) for safer driving. It didn't bother changing the 204 hp electric motor from the production car, and adopted it as a turn-key proposal. Body In Fright Brabus's efforts to find more power overshot the engineering limits of the nine-speed transmission ... More and the all-wheel drive system, so it has limited the 1000's power, torque and top speed. Photo: Brabus. Brabus Brabus has tweaked the GT's aero package, too, but that seems as much to stand out as it does to be practical. All of the aero parts are made in exposed carbon-fiber, though Brabus gives the option of high-gloss or matte finish. A combination of 21-inch monoblock wheels, developed just for the 1000, up front and 22-inch versions in the rear set off the look. The front rims are wrapped in 305/30 ZR 21 rubber and it's a pair of 335/25 ZR 22s down the back, both of which are available from either Continental or Hankook. It rides on a combination of Brabus's own in-house springs and a height-adjustable suspension system from KW, which drops the ride height 0.8in over the AMG version. The raised side flaps for the front spoiler are claimed to add front-axle downforce at speed, there are raised canards ahead of the front wheels for high-speed stability, there is a carbon-fiber diffuser, with space for four three-inch exhaust pipes, and a significant rear wing. The Brabus 1000 stays true to the company's extreme luxury inside and power underneath. Photo: ... More Brabus. Brabus

Mercedes has nearly 1,000bhp, courtesy of Brabus

You're looking at the Brabus 1000, a modified version of the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe that comes with a collection of styling and technical upgrades, and some colossal performance figures. Brabus has not announced any prices for its new two-door flagship, but given that the car on which it's based already costs well over £185,000, we suspect it'll be another big number. Advertisement - Article continues below The company's modifications to the Porsche 911 rival run deep, including a heavy update of AMG's twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It has been enlarged from 4.0 to 4.5 litres, plus two new turbochargers with higher boost pressures have been fitted. However, the car's headline power figure isn't derived from just a V8 engine, because Brabus has based the 1000 on the GT 63 S E Performance, which pairs a 197bhp electrified rear axle with the traditional petrol engine. As such, this would mean the V8 engine develops around 800bhp in order to create the total output of 1000hp (987bhp), from which the car's name is derived. This is the same powertrain used in the four-door Brabus Rocket 1000, which produces 1,820Nm of torque. However, to protect the nine-speed automatic transmission, it is limited to 'only' 1,620Nm in the new model. Brabus quotes a 0-62mph time of 2.6 seconds for the 1000, which is about 0.2 seconds faster than the AMG model it's based on, and its top speed is electronically limited to 198mph. The 1000 also features a range of styling upgrades, most of which are made from carbon fibre. These include new splitters, spoilers and wings, while the grille also features new inserts on either side, plus there's a new set of staggered 21 and 22-inch wheels. There's no detail on any updates to the chassis, aside from a new height-adjustable suspension. How this works with AMG's hydraulically-interconnected dampers, if they are still fitted, remains to be seen. If, however, you're in the market for a high performance AMG model, make sure to check out Auto Express's online marketplace . Brabus has also been busy inside the car, reupholstering much of the cabin and replacing many of the existing trim pieces with either gloss carbon or red anodised aluminium. Brabus Rocket GTS Deep Blue Debuts Late last year, Brabus revealed the Rocket GTS, a Mercedes-AMG SL 63 turned into a shooting brake that is more than a little reminiscent of BMW's so-called 'Clownshoe,' the Z3 M Coupe. Clad in carbon fiber and delivering close to a thousand horsepower, there wasn't much room for improvement, but the German tuner has found a way to get closer to perfection with a blue-tinted take on the terrific two-door called the Rocket GTS Deep Blue. This package reportedly adds $68,000 to the cost of the already-expensive $1.1 million Rocket GTS. 0:05 / 0:09 2024 Kia EV6 GT-Line review: Is this the EV that will convert you? Watch More Lighter, More Aerodynamic, And Much Wider Brabus modifies various Mercedes-AMG models, but the monoblock wheels on its Rocket GTS are exclusive to the model. The P Platinum Edition rims measure 21 inches in the front, with 22s filling the rear arches, and they're designed to funnel air inward to cool the brakes. They also do a fine job of disguising the extra width, where the rear axle is now more than 78 inches wide, while an integrated ducktail-style spoiler aims to improve downforce. The entire body, claims Brabus, has been optimized in the wind tunnel using computer-aided design and computational flow dynamics software, so the body isn't just for show. Brabus says that all the carbon has also shaved some weight from the car, though it doesn't say how much. With such exquisite fitted luggage and the addition of a roof, the difference likely isn't much, but anything is an improvement when you start with a 5,115-pound curb weight. Monstrous Performance From A Bigger V8 Brabus could easily have boosted the original 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 hybrid system's output beyond its standard 805 horsepower and called it a day, but on a project this special, the tuner chose to completely overhaul the powertrain by boring it out to 4,407 cc. Along with other modifications, the engine produces 784 hp and 921 lb-ft of torque on its own. Alongside the SL 63 S E Performance's rear-mounted electric motor, overall output is now 1,000 metric horses (985 bhp) and 1,342 lb-ft of torque. Because the 9-speed automatic transmission might not sustain that much twist for extended periods, Brabas has restricted torque to 1,195 lb-ft. We're sure that's enough – 0-62 mph takes just 2.6 seconds, and reaching 124 mph from rest is quoted at 9.5 seconds. 0-186 mph? 23.6 seconds, and if you keep your foot planted, the Rocket GTS will keep going until 197 mph.
