Drighlington apprentice named Inspirational Student of the Year
An apprentice at a Drighlington property compliance firm has won two awards for being an inspirational student. Faye Oxley, 19, who works for Inspectas, won the Business Admin Subject Student of the Year and Inspirational Student of the Year awards at the Bradford College Star Awards. The awards, which cover all areas of the college, see tutors and teachers nominating students who they feel have gone above and beyond. Faye's awards were presented to her by Bradford City players Lewis Richards and Zac Hadi on April 29 at an event at the college. Faye's tutor, Dawn Middleton, said she nominated Faye because she "exemplifies a distinction student," with an eye for detail, a thirst for knowledge, and a high standard of professionalism. She said: "Faye demonstrates the ability to self-assess her work and looks to constantly stretch and challenge herself." Faye's work includes a British Sign Language (BSL) project, which includes suggestions for training staff in BSL. Faye joined Inspectas in 2024 as a business and administration apprentice and is set to complete her apprenticeship in July. She has been offered a permanent role on the team. Faye said: "I am both honoured and grateful to have received these awards from Bradford College." More information is available at

T Level engineering students to benefit from Bradford College suite
A new "industry-standard" engineering suite has opened at Bradford College's Trinity Green Campus. The facility is the result of a collaboration between Bradford College and the Bradford-based Metalcraft Group, a metal fabrication and engineering company. The partnership aims to provide T Level engineering students with a wider range of experiences, opportunities, and equipment. T Levels are two-year qualifications available after GCSEs, designed so that businesses can teach skills and knowledge. They feature a 45-day work placement with an employer, like Metalcraft Group, providing the chance for industry experience while studying. Stephen Smith, Bradford College head of engineering, said: "We are delighted to be partnered with Metalcraft Group. "This represents a major step forward for our T Level provision. "Through our work with this reputable Bradford-based company, students will benefit from unprecedented access to real-world engineering expertise and facilities." The refurbished room at Trinity Green was designed and equipped by Metalcraft, and showcases prototype examples of the contractor's precision engineering. In addition to the speciality suite, the partnership will also secure placement and visit opportunities for Bradford College T Level students to gain hands-on experience with an engineering firm. One of Metalcraft Group's owners, CEO Nathan Varley, said: "We want to help empower the youth of Bradford going forward. "The talent's definitely there in Bradford, and the combination of both practical and classroom environments at college can really unearth these individuals." Rob Oldroyd, general manager at Metalcraft Precision Engineering (a Metalcraft Group branch), added: "This joint effort with Bradford College will provide an insight into the future talent available and hopefully contribute to creating some of the next generation of engineering experts." The T Level in 'Engineering: Design & Development' is a gateway qualification into engineering and product development. According to a spokesperson, "the course blends classroom learning with real-world experience to give the skills needed to design, test, and create innovative products. "Students learn engineering principles, design techniques, and manufacturing processes to understand how products go from concept to production."
