Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates new era: New captains and vice's
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have appointed new captains and vice-captains. Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will have new captains for the 2025/26 season. So, Amakhosi have decided who will be replacing Yusuf Maart. Meanwhile, the Bucs have appointed their new captain to replace Innocent Maela. Chiefs have utilised Inavio Miguel as their captain throughout the pre-season. Meaning, he is set to replace Maart as the new Amakhosi skipper. Meanwhile, Brandon Petersen and Zitha Kwinika are the new Chiefs vice captains. 'Both management and the technical team agreed that there should have a captains committee with three players on it. The club captain is Inacio Miguel but he will be working together with Brandon Petersen and Given Msimango as his vices. It will depend on who is playing on that day to take over from Miguel who is the number one captain, then Petersen followed by Msimango. That's how it will work,' the insider told SoccerLaduma . Maela has left big boots to fill following his legendary Bucs career. So, now we know who will be attempting to fill his boots. Pirates have appointed Nkosinathi Sibisi as their new captain for the 2025/26 season. 'It is truly an honour and privilege to be named captain of this great institution. It's a responsibility that I accept and promise to fulfil the role in the best way I possibly can,' Sibisi stated following his appointment as the new Pirates captain. Thapelo Xoki and teenager Mbekezeli Mbokazi have been named as the vice-captains. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Stellenbosch vs Kaizer Chiefs: Date, Kick-Off Time, Venue, Predicted XI
Kaizer Chiefs will kick off their 2025/26 Betway Premiership season against Stellenbosch FC this coming weekend. Having spent three weeks in the Netherlands for their pre-season, Amakhosi returned to the country end of July, where they played Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup. Despite going down on penalties, Nasreddine Nabi's men showed intent and looked positive at times. This weekend, they face a Stellies side that edged out AmaZulu 3-2 in the MTN8 quarter-finals at home. Having played one competitive match, the Cape side will probably have an edge, given they are playing at home. Amakhosi will play Stellenbosch FC on Sunday (10 August) at 17:30 at the Cape Town Stadium. Last season, Chiefs won all three encounters and will go into the clash feeling confident. The Glamour Boys have gotten the better of Stellies and that might play in their hands if they start the match well. If Chiefs concede early, they might struggle to come back, given their problems in front of goals. In six matches played in pre-season, Amakhosi only netted three times. Brandon Petersen (GK) Thabiso Monyane (RB) Miguel Inacio (CB) Aden McCarthy (CB) Bradley Cross (LB) Siphesihle Ndlovi (DM) Thabo Cele (CM) Nkosingiphile Ngcobo (AM) Glody Lilepo (LW) Pule Mmodi (RW) Flavio Silva (ST) Kaizer Chiefs are not in the MTN8 competition after failing to finish in the top 8 last season. Chiefs must 'suffer now, enjoy later' in intense Dutch pre-season, says Petersen
Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen says the squad are embracing the pain of an intense pre-season in the Netherlands, determined to lay the groundwork for a trophy-laden campaign. Photo: Backpagepix Image: Backpagepix Kaizer Chiefs' goalkeeper Brandon Petersen says they must 'suffer now, enjoy later' as they endure an intense pre-season camp in The Netherlands. Chiefs have been in Apeldoorn, in the east of the country, since Friday, working hard through demanding training and gym sessions. 'It's now pre-season, where we lay the foundation,' Petersen told the Chiefs' media team. 'It's when we suffer and sweat now, so that we can shine later.' We want to test ourselves "The most important aspect, of course, is to get the players fully prepared for the upcoming season, both from a physical and tactical point of view." - @kaizerm_jr #Amakhosi4Life — Kaizer Chiefs (@KaizerChiefs) July 7, 2025 Video Player is loading. Next Stay Close ✕ It's the second consecutive pre-season camp Chiefs have held in Europe, after touring Turkey last winter. Following a season in which their preparations only delivered the Nedbank Cup, Chiefs are leaving nothing to chance in the Netherlands, aiming to challenge for everything next season. They are putting their money where their mouth is — not only through intense training sessions, but also by basing themselves in a quieter, more focused environment. Their base in the secluded town of Apeldoorn is approximately 80km from Amsterdam. The capital's hustle and bustle might have distracted the squad, something Petersen knows well, having visited Amsterdam in his youth. 'I think I've been here a couple of times when I was in the junior ranks with Ajax – but we spent a lot of time in Amsterdam,' Petersen recalled. 'But coming here to Apeldoorn, it's beautiful. Very green. You can feel the oxygen. Obviously, we've been blessed with some nice rain. "The area is very nice. It's quiet. "You can just focus on your craft, go to training and work hard. The hotel we are staying in is amazing – people are welcoming. 'It's been nice staying here, there's nice food, which is important, especially at this time of the season – your body needs to recover. 'I think all aspects have been taken care of (by the club). So it's just for us to focus on our football and prepare for the start of the new season.' It's crucial that Chiefs are at their best next season. Last season's Nedbank Cup triumph has whetted their appetite for further silverware. 'I think lifting the trophy last season was a major boost for us. It was something that we really needed,' Petersen said. 'We didn't have the best season, but I think it was a silver lining for us. So, that can be our building block for the next season. 'We can use that as fuel because you can see the hunger and determination in the players' faces—especially after winning that trophy. They want more success.' The club has moved to strengthen the squad with six new signings so far this transfer window. The arrivals include Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, Nkanyiso Shinga, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane. The quartet of Chislett, Silva, Shinga and Monyane have been spotted with their team-mates in the Netherlands, while Ndlovu signed on Saturday and Mako is reportedly injured. Chiefs will play the first of their five pre-season training matches against Dutch first-division side Vitesse on Tuesday at Sportpark Driel in Driel (kick-off 7pm). Some of the new signings are set to make their debuts for the team, as coach Nasreddine Nabi and his technical team begin to shape the side. 'We know most of the younger boys, we've seen them play and trained with them a few times, so it's exciting to see them playing with us in the first team,' Petersen said. 'Obviously, with the new guys, it's exciting. I am looking forward to the friendlies that we are going to be playing, where people will actually see a glimpse of them.'

Friendlies in Netherlands can help Chiefs gauge strength: Petersen
Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen believes their five preparatory matches on their preseason camp in the Netherlands will also help Amakhosi gauge their level ahead of the 2025-26 season. Chiefs, who left for Holland last Thursday, face Dutch second-tier side Vitesse in their first friendly of their tour in Dorpsstraat on Tuesday (7pm SA time). Amakhosi, who return to South Africa on July 19, also meet Utrecht on Friday, NEC Nijmegen on Saturday, PEC Zwolle on July 15 and FC Twente on July 16. 'I think these are important, competitive friendlies for us. Playing against teams who play at the highest level abroad is always good, so we're looking forward to seeing where we are weighing against some of these bigger teams,' Petersen said. Another great training session💪🏋♂️🏃🏾♂️ 🇳🇱 #Amakhosi4Life #KCNetherlands #KCPreseason #CarlingBlackLabel — Kaizer Chiefs (@KaizerChiefs) July 6, 2025 The keeper views the preseason tour as a perfect opportunity to lay a solid foundation for the coming season. He said the hard work Chiefs were putting in will be rewarded later, especially since they will be involved in the taxing Caf Confederation Cup. 'The preseason is where we lay the foundation. We sweat and suffer now so we can shine later. 'We're pushing our bodies to the max to lay a foundation for the coming season. Obviously, we have a big season lying ahead with the Caf Confederation Cup on the horizon too. The Glamour Boys had no time for sightseeing during their first two days in camp. They came to work! 🏋♂️💪🏃🏾♂️ 🇳🇱 #Amakhosi4Life #KCNetherlands #KCPreseason — Kaizer Chiefs (@KaizerChiefs) July 5, 2025 Kabelo Nkgwesa, Thulani Mabaso and Naledi Hlongwane among their DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) under-23 team players Amakhosi took to Europe and they will be hoping to impress head coach Nasreddine Nabi ahead of the new season. Signings such as Nkanyiso Shinga, Thabiso Monyane, Flávio Silva and Ethan Chislett are on the tour and begin their assimilation process for their new club. Petersen feels the preseason will also help them forge that camaraderie, particularly with the newcomers. 'What we do now is very important not only physically but as a team to get that togetherness and brotherhood since there are a few players who joined us. It's important to welcome them and gel as soon as possible,' Petersen said. The Glamour Boys are based in the town of Apeldoorn, about 80km east of the capital Amsterdam.
