John Cena Shares Surprising Pick For His Toughest WWE Match
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. John Cena has had countless battles against legendary opponents, but he has named his most surreal and bizarre encounter as the "toughest match" of his career. At a recent fan expo, the 17-time world champion revealed that the Firefly Fun House match against the late, great Bray Wyatt was his most challenging fight. The unique, cinematic match took place at WrestleMania 36 in 2020. It was a product of the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, making it part of the only WrestleMania ever to be held without a live audience. WWE Match Against Himself Speaking at FanExpo Boston, John Cena was asked to name the toughest opponent of his career. While he acknowledged his opponent was Bray Wyatt, he explained that the true battle was an internal one. "It's the match I had in the Firefly Fun House," Cena said. "The reason that opponent was tough–and I know it was against Bray Wyatt–was because that was more or less a match against me. I'll say that was my toughest match." Inside The Mind of Bray Wyatt The Firefly Fun House match was not a traditional wrestling bout; it was a surreal, psychological deep dive into John Cena's own career, with the creative genius Bray Wyatt as the demonic guide. The match took Cena on a nightmarish journey through his own history, forcing him to confront the biggest criticisms and "what ifs" of his career. The segment saw Cena relive his "Doctor of Thuganomics" rapper persona and his "Super Cena" era. It also featured a stunning sequence where he was portrayed as a heel member of the nWo, a famous fantasy booking scenario that fans had debated for years. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - APRIL 20: John Cena walks to the ring as he is introduced before his match against Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship during WrestleMania 41 at Allegiant Stadium on April 20, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. MoreJohn Cena Wrestling In A Pandemic The match was a creative solution to an unprecedented problem. With the world in lockdown in 2020, WWE was forced to hold WrestleMania 36 at its empty Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Without a live crowd to feed off of, the company chose to experiment with pre-taped, cinematic matches. The Firefly Fun House match, along with The Undertaker's "Boneyard Match," became the highlights of the event. They were praised for their creativity and for providing a memorable and unique experience for fans during a time of global uncertainty. Cena's new comments provide a fascinating insight into the psychological depth of a match that went far beyond the typical physicality of the squared circle. In honor of that, news broke that WWE faction Wyatt Sicks, inspired by the late Bray Wyatt and his brother Bo Dallas, would be receiving their own house at this year's event. Now, his legacy lives on through the Wyatt Sicks, led by his brother, formerly known as Bo Dallas. What will the Wyatt Sicks' house at Halloween Horror Nights look like? WWE's Wyatt Sicks is strong tribute to legacy of immortal Bray Wyatt According to other sources, people who enter the house will have to face off against Uncle Howdy and the faction. This includes the current WWE Tag Team Champions Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy (who defend their titles in a six pack Tables, Ladders and Chairs match at SummerSlam in a few days). Plus Nikki Cross, the embodiment of Sister Abigail, and Erick Rowan, another former tag team champion. It's safe to say that many fans will welcome the challenge. Two All-New Haunted Houses Announced For Halloween Horror Nights – 'Five Nights at Freddy's' and 'WWE Presents: The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks'
Halloween Horror Nights awakens two iconic franchises in all-new terrifying haunted houses inspired by the blockbuster film Five Nights at Freddy's and WWE's legendary The Wyatt Sicks. The horror kicks off at Universal Orlando Resort on Friday, August 29 and atUniversal Studios Hollywood on Thursday, September 4. Five Nights at Freddy's Guests will fight to survive as they venture through an all-new haunted house inspired by the 2023 hit film Five Nights at Freddy's , Blumhouse's highest-grossing movie to date and an adaptation of the horror videogame phenomenon. Guests will follow in the footsteps of Mike, who was recently fired and desperate for work so that he can keep custody of his little sister, after he accepts a position as a night security guard in an abandoned themed entertainment center: Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. The terror will start as guests navigate the corridors and learn that nothing at Freddy's is what it seems when they encounter the supernatural and become lured into the black heart of an unspeakable nightmare. The journey will bring guests face-to-face with full-scale replicas of the eerie characters from the film—Freddy Fazbear, Chica, Bonnie, Foxy, and Mr. Cupcake—as they stalk visitors through iconic scenes, including the security room and the showroom where the chilling characters performed. The larger-than-life characters for the haunted houses were created in collaboration with Jim Henson's Creature Shop, who also masterfully produced the animatronics and corresponding costumes for the fan-favorite film. WWE Presents: The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks Guests will be immersed in the world of WWE in the bi-coastal haunted houses 'WWE Presents: The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks,' where they will go head-to-head with Uncle Howdy in an experience that not only features The Wyatt Sicks but honors the legacy of Bray Wyatt. The group derives from the creative mind of Bray Wyatt and was resurrected in 2024 by his brother Bo Dallas, also known as Uncle Howdy – the fearless leader of The Wyatt Sicks. The chilling crew of five has quickly emerged as one of the most disturbing and disruptive groups in WWE history with its ominous presence and portrayal of dark and twisted characters – all of which will come to life at Halloween Horror Nights this fall. Along the way, guests will be stalked by the eerie presence of The Fiend, Bray's sadistic alter ego, who looms within the shadows and beckons them to let him in. Absent WWE Stars Could Return Sooner Than Expected: Report
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. It appears that WWE is bringing back an absent faction to television soon in the way of the Wyatt Sicks. According to a new report from citing a source within WWE Creative, there is significant discussion about the group finally making their impactful return to the SmackDown brand. The WWE Creative source told that the Wyatt Sicks may be returning "sooner than you think." The Wyatt Sicks, and the character of Uncle Howdy (portrayed by Bo Dallas, Bray Wyatt's real-life brother) are deeply connected to the legacy of the late Bray Wyatt. For months, WWE has masterfully built anticipation through a series of mysterious vignettes, QR code clues, and eerie background appearances, all hinting at the arrival of real-life manifestations of Wyatt's "Firefly Funhouse" characters. Members like Erick Rowan, Nikki Cross, Dexter Lumis, and Joe Gacy have been strongly linked or visually teased as part of this collective, continuing the dark and theatrical lore established by Wyatt. This was last year, but now, WWE needs to reshuffle the group. More news: WWE News: Steve Austin Reveals Real-Life Vince McMahon Confrontation While specific details about these "new creative pitches" remain under wraps, their existence indicates active planning for the next chapter of the Wyatt Sicks saga. A return to Friday Night SmackDown would undoubtedly send shockwaves through the blue brand, introducing a dark, unpredictable, and potentially dominant force waiting for a significant storyline push. Persistent rumors regarding Alexa Bliss's potential involvement with the Wyatt Sicks add another layer of intrigue. Bliss has a significant history with Bray Wyatt, having been a key part of "The Fiend," where her character underwent a dark transformation. Since her return to WWE in early 2025, reports, including some from PWInsider, have suggested that creative plans might involve her being linked to or even leading the Wyatt Sicks. Her connection to the Wyatt lore makes her a natural fit for many fans and observers, though WWE has yet to confirm any such direction. The "sooner than you think" timeframe for the faction's return will fuel further discussion and anticipation for what promises to be one of WWE's most captivating and unsettling storylines. Bliss is back on WWE television, as she returned this month and qualified for Money in the Bank. Perhaps, they can help her out in winning the contract again.
