BBC Radio 2's Zoe Ball declares 'warfare' on local 'gang' after ditching £2 million home
BBC Radio 2 star Zoe Ball, who switched to a townhouse in 2024, explained how she was in the grips of "warfare" with a local "gang" and was planning to take action at "dawn" Zoe Ball has shared her woes about a local "gang" after swapping her lavish £2 million countryside pad for a Brighton and Hove townhouse. In 2024, the BBC Radio 2 presenter bid farewell to her rural Sussex abode in Newick and set up shop in a townhouse, intriguingly right next door to her ex-husband, Norman Cook, better known as Fatboy Slim. The couple, who tied the knot in 1999 and had two children together, parted ways in 2016 and finalised their divorce in 2020. Since relocating, Zoe seems to taken to gardening but has run into quite the predicament. According to the Mail, she revealed that she's been locked in "warfare" with a "gang" of foxes, cats, and squirrels that have been making a mess in her garden. Zoe lamented: "I've got this gang of foxes, cats and squirrels that basically s*** in all the borders." Despite her efforts of using lemon, thyme, and mulch, the tactic backfired. She elaborated on her struggle: "The squirrels are now digging up their monkey nuts and the bulbs they nicked off me ... this is warfare." "I'm going to sit at dawn with a pop gun under a blanket aiming at them. They're bold. They come up to me like a little gang of s****y squirrels." A source previously told the publication that Zoe was seeking a "bit more lively" environment, having grown "fed up with life" in the quieter countryside. Zoe Ball's exit from the Radio 2 Breakfast Show in 2024, after a six-year stint, was a major talking point, with Scott Mills stepping into her shoes. Addressing why she quit, she cited that it was time to "step away" from the "very early mornings" and "focus on family." Fast-forward to this year, and Zoe has returned to BBC Radio 2 with a weekend show. Additionally, Zoe has opened up about battling "really bad social anxiety". She confessed that her role on the Breakfast Show had been a convenient excuse to avoid social gatherings that made her uneasy. While speaking on her new Dig It podcast, co-hosted by fellow radio star Jo Whiley, she explained that she was "always slightly in the back" of her head, attempting to think of an excuse of "not being able to go" and saying her previous job was a "great excuse". Without the Breakfast Show as a reason, Zoe says she can no longer plead the need for an early night. She further discussed her discomfort with social situations, particularly her aversion to small talk. Zoe admitted: "I am really bad at small talk. It makes my skin crawl. I have had to reverse myself out of conversations when I have said something so weird."

Gary Lineker named BBC's highest earner for the final time
The 64-year-old, who left the BBC early at the end of the last Premier League season in May, was reported to have earned between £1,350,000 and £1,354,999 in the corporation's latest annual report for 2024/2025, for his work on Match Of The Day and coverage of European football. Radio presenter Zoe Ball was the second highest-paid, earning between £515,000 and £519,999, for her work on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, which she left on December 20 last year. Ball has since returned to a new Saturday afternoon show on the station, which she began hosting in May 2025. Match Of The Day pundit Alan Shearer was the third-highest earner with a salary of between £440,000 and £444,999. The former Newcastle United striker will continue to analyse football on the BBC in the new season with Match Of The Day's incoming presenters Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan. His pay also covered work on the BBC's coverage of European football competitions, such as the Uefa Champions League. BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show presenter Greg James came fourth on the list, earning between £425,000 and £429,999, for work which also included his Radio 4 show Rewinder, while Fiona Bruce and Nick Robinson were the joint fifth-highest earners, with both earning between £410,000 and £414,999. Bruce's pay covered her work on Question Time and other presenting work on BBC One and coverage of the UK general election, while Robinson's included his presenting work, Political Thinking and Today podcasts, and his work covering the UK general election. The publication of salaries comes after former England striker Lineker left his presenting role earlier than planned following a social media row after he shared a post about Zionism which featured a depiction of a rat, historically an antisemitic insult. Lineker issued an unreserved apology for the incident, and will no longer front the BBC's coverage of the 2026 World Cup or the FA Cup next season. The rest of the top 10 was made up of BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Stephen Nolan, who earned between £405,000 and £409,999, TV presenter Laura Kuenssberg, who earned between £395,000 and £399,999, BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay, who earned between £390,000 and £394,999, and journalist Justin Webb, who earned between £365,000 and £369,999. The annual report and salary reveal comes as the BBC has made headlines over its coverage of the Glastonbury Festival, the Gaza: How To Survive A Warzone documentary, and a report into Gregg Wallace's behaviour on MasterChef. On Monday, Wallace's MasterChef co-host John Torode confirmed he had a standalone allegation of racist language upheld in the same report.

The BBC's top-earning stars missing from salary list
Gary Lineker took the top spot on the BBC's salary list for the eighth year in a row but did you spot the names missing from the list, like The Traitors' Claudia Winkleman? There will always be certain big-name stars who never make the BBC top earnings list. Strictly's Winkleman, Rylan Clark, Michael McIntyre, Graham Norton and Bradley Walsh are among the BBC's top talent but their names are not featured on the salary list. One thing they all have in common is that they are not directly employed by the BBC and instead, they are contracted through production companies. BBC Studios is one example and it is a commercial organisation that is not supported by the licence fee. The BBC only publishes the big salaries of stars it employs directly. Stars employed directly by the BBC who earn more than £178,000 will have their names and salaries published. Interestingly, some stars appear on the list but for only some of their BBC work. One notable example is Vernon Kay who is named in ninth place on the list with a salary of £390,000 — £394,999. It only includes his Radio 2 job. Any money he earns for co-presenting The One Show doesn't feature in his published salary. Kay's co-presenters Alex Jones, Roman Kemp and more, also wouldn't have their salary for The One Show appear in the BBC's top earning list. There are too many well paid stars who are missing from the BBC's highest-paid salaries list to feature them all here. McIntyre could be potentially at the top of the salary list because of his big Saturday night shows The Wheel and Big Show, BBC News reported. Winkleman would likely feature high on the list thanks to her hosting jobs on Strictly Come Dancing and The Traitors. Graham Norton would appear in the list too and Winkleman also filled in for the star on his BBC chat show this year. Strictly's main stars Tess Daly, Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood don't make the list. Gladiators host Walsh is also absent from the BBC salary list. More big names missing include: Rylan, Sort Your Life Out's Stacey Solomon, Would I Lie To You?'s Rob Brydon, Not Going Out star Lee Mack, David Mitchell, Romesh Ranganathan, Only Connect's Victoria Coren-Mitchell Amanda & Alan's Spanish Job stars Alan Carr and Amanda Holden as well as Alison Hammond for her Big Weekend series. It wasn't surprising that Lineker and Zoe Ball led the highest-paid BBC stars once again.
