New investment and new breakfast show presenter at Edge 1

Micky Gavin is joining Edge 1 as the new Programme Controller and breakfast show presenter on Micky in the Morning. The show goes live this month and will feature up to the minute travel news and chat as well as Micky said: 'I'm really thrilled to be launching a brand-new breakfast show, live from Edinburgh for Edinburgh! I have dusted off the alarm clock and can't wait to get started. 'I'm also looking forward to working with the on-air team and will be looking to further strengthen the sound of Edge 1 and the line up in the near future. 'Finally, I get to work with my old pal and boss, Jay Crawford again! It's an exciting time for both Edge Media Group and MB Media and I'm excited to be part of this new chapter.' Barrie Wilkins, MD, MB Media, said: 'Micky and I worked together in radio before he came to join the team at MB Media. When the opportunity came to acquire a stake in Edge Media Group, we talked about the possibilities and the benefits it could potentially have for our clients. I was introduced to Edge's owner, Jay Crawford and was completely inspired by him and his vision for the radio station. 'MB Media has almost 100 marketing clients, from restaurants to large hotel chains. We're always looking at ways to increase brand awareness for them and having radio as an option makes perfect sense.' Jay Crawford, Owner, Edge Media Group, said: 'This is an exciting time as we take our stations to the next level. Having MB Media on board for support and to help expand our brands with their expertise is fantastic. 'I'm looking forward to working with Barrie and his team, but getting Micky on board for Edge1's Breakfast Show and to help steer our programming is amazing' Current breakfast show presenter, Mark Martin will now join Edge 2 to present the weekday afternoon drive time show. Zoe Ball's stark warning to Scott Mills when he took over BBC Radio 1 job

Breakfast show host Scott, who took over in January, says Zoe had a few words of wisdom for him before he started Scott Mills has revealed that Zoe Ball gave him a stark warning before he replaced her on BBC Radio 2, telling him: 'It's a lot - you've always got to be on.' Scott, 52, was unveiled as the new Breakfast Show host last year after the shock news Zoe was stepping down after six years at the Radio 2 helm. And in spite of more than two decades of experience on the airwaves, he admitted he still struggles with the pressure to deliver the best show possible. Scott told the Mirror: 'The show is a lot, it's hard work. It's a treadmill every day. ‌ ‌ 'I remember when Zoe finished, she said to me: 'Look, doing breakfast on Radio 2 is quite a lot. It's quite demanding, and you've just always got to be on.' She was right. The amount of guests we have - it's continuous. When she said it to me, I was like: 'I'm ready'. And I am, it's my happy place. 'But of course there's pressure. I think that if you're not feeling any pressure, then you probably shouldn't be doing that job. But that's good. I want to be at the top of my game, and I have that inbuilt into me, I always put pressure on myself. I'm not getting mad pressure from the bosses at all, far from it. But I want to do the best show I can possibly do. 'There is an old saying - I don't know if it's an acting phrase - but it's basically: 'You're only as good as your last show.' And I know it's quite old school, but I do think that. If I've had a bad show - for reasons a listener maybe wouldn't even notice, like maybe I tripped over my words - I really get annoyed. You can get beaten up about it.' ‌ Scott has opened up in the past about his struggles with mental health, admitting he grappled with intense anxiety and depression as a young man. And speaking this week on new Mercedes-Benz Vans podcast Under the Bonnet, he revealed he still experiences dark periods - but uses exercise to help him cope. Scott, who is hosting the podcast, said: 'Exercise is definitely something I lean into to help my mental health. I've really noticed when I don't do it. Now at school, I was the last to be picked at sport - it's not my thing, but it's not about that. It's about that feeling I get after I've been, it's a bit of a high that you get. And it's (exercise) what I try to do now after the Breakfast Show, because I've been in some low places before with depression and anxiety over the years. ‌ 'Thankfully not in recent years, but I know if a dark time is coming - you can just feel it. So I honestly believe that exercise has helped me know, and I make time for it.' The Under the Bonnet podcast is the UK's first exclusively for van drivers. The series, recorded in a specially adapted Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, has been launched to celebrate 30 years of the Sprinter and discuss the Under the Bonnet report, which shows how van drivers have become a barometer for modern Britain. ‌ The report has found that the average van driver has less than five conversations a day, compared to the average person's 27 conversations. And 80% credited improvements in their mental health to team sport. Scott went on: 'I could really relate to that because of my own experiences. Some of the drivers I spoke to were telling me about being on the road for 20 hours at a time, and how lonely they felt. 'And it reminded me of when I was working my way up in radio, as a presenter. My first job was on radio in Southampton when I was 16 and then I got asked by a radio station in Bristol if I wanted to go there. So I moved to Bristol not knowing one person. And apart from when I was recording my show, I spent all of my time completely on my own. And then I moved from Bristol to Manchester and I mean, I'd never been north of Birmingham - I was a proper Southerner. ‌ 'So once again, you uproot your life, you rent a flat and you don't know anyone. And this is, like, early 1990s, so mobiles weren't really a thing. You weren't really in touch with people, you know, day-to-day. I can remember my Mum coming to visit me, and crying because I was so lonely. She asked if I was going to put a Christmas tree up, and I told her I would, but that no-one would see it. It was a very isolating time. "I made those moves to better my career, but at the back of my head I was always thinking: 'At what cost?' Obviously, it's all worked out great, but you don't know that as you're doing it. Now people will say to me: 'Oh, you're on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show,' but they don't realise that I've spent years trying to get up that ladder. ‌ "To be honest, it still blows my mind that this has happened to me. It's been a wild four months since I took over the show, and we're only just getting started.' Off the airwaves, Scott is also celebrating his first wedding anniversary this month, after he married husband Sam Vaughan last year. And revealing plans to whisk Sam away to celebrate at their Spanish wedding venue, he told how their partnership works because they help each other. ‌ He went on: 'Our first year has been great. And I'll tell you why it's been great, because it's just so easy. Me and him are just a great team - we just help each other out all the time, which is the way it should be. It's been a busy time lately, with Eurovision, etc. 'But I love it, and I love coming home after bonkers days, and everything just being calm and normal - that peace of mind that someone is always there for you. I adore it. ‌ 'We were chatting about this last night, and I was like: 'That's been a pretty good first year of marriage.' And I mean, it's whipped by - it's gone by in a flash. 'This weekend I am taking him back to the place where we got married - in Spain. So he doesn't know this yet, but tomorrow, we are going there. 'Right now, I'm the happiest I've ever, ever, ever, ever been. I really feel like all the stars have aligned for me, and I couldn't be happier. I'm literally having a ball.' Scott Mills is hosting the Mercedes-Benz Vans podcast Under the Bonnet, the UK's first podcast exclusively for van drivers. The podcast has been launched to mark the 30th anniversary of the Sprinter van and to discuss the findings of the Under the Bonnet report.

Donncha O'Callaghan on why he's embracing the ‘dad bod' after 20 years as an athlete

'Like, who gives a s**t that you're PB-ing at 46?'' The former rugby star is now better known as a radio and TV presenter after retiring from the game in 2018. And the father-of-four says he's loving his more laidback diet and exercise regime after 20 years as an elite athlete. Donncha O'Callaghan with Maverick Hernandez Sanchez, Alicia Ottun and Katie and Ellie Talbot 'It's not sustainable,' Donncha reflects on his sporting prime. 'I'm gone the other way totally with that — I'm fully embracing it. 'Within professional circles, it's very easy to be on top of things — your nutrition is looked after, all your physio and deep tissue massage. 'It isn't until you come away that you get an appreciation for how difficult it is. 'From rugby, it's mad, you don't see, like, a chicken breast — that's 40 grams of protein. You see two scoops of rice or pasta as 50 grams of carbohydrates. Rugby legend turned TV personality Donncha O'Callaghan News in 90 Seconds - May 30th '[You're] looking at the nutrients as opposed to, 'Oh my God, that tastes amazing!' 'To be fair, it's quite enjoyable, because there's no accountability, there's no DEXA scans, there's no millimetres and skin folds of fat, so you can be a bit looser,' he continues. 'I look at some of my teammates and they're in better condition now than when they were playing. 'What a waste that was … like, when we needed you to be in incredible shape, you weren't!' Munster legend Donncha shares four children with engineer wife, Jenny Harte: Sophie (14), Anna (12), Robin (11) and Jake (9). Donncha with his family So he's thrown his towering 6ft 6ins support behind Tesco Ireland's new Stronger Starts Cooks initiative, a free six-week programme aimed at supporting children's health and wellbeing, which is set to be delivered to almost 3,000 pupils across 42 primary schools this year. 'Looking at this research, 92 per cent of parents felt they'd love more cooking within the curriculum,' he quotes a survey conducted by the store, 'and we feel the same. 'It isn't until you go into secondary [school] that you start to pick up Home Economics, if you're into it. 'Other than that, there isn't a whole lot of knowledge about it. So I think it's a good thing if you can do it, and family-wise, get around. Donncha runs out of Ireland 'The big one we do is, if we're doing a roast on a Sunday, everyone gets involved with different things. So Robin, my little girl, makes the best stuffing in the world, and Anna is a dinger at mashed potato. But then, honestly, it's like something you'd see with Gordon Ramsay — if the mash isn't good, everyone's telling her!' The popular host is now also home for breakfast after leaving RTÉ 2FM after five years on the air last year. And the 46-year-old, who quit just weeks after co-host Doireann Garrihy, maintains it was the right call. 'I don't miss the early hours, it was really cruel,' says Donncha, who was also flanked by Carl Mullan on the Breakfast Show. 'If I was in Dublin, I was up at three. 'But I do miss that team, and obviously Doireann and Carl I love to bits, so I do miss hanging around with them. 'I actually do miss presenting a little bit as well, I didn't think I would… but I think it's something you have to enjoy doing. Donncha on Ireland's Fittest Family 'With breakfast radio, you can't bullsh*t it — you have to be a morning person.' On TV, Donncha also joined the Ireland's Fittest Family line-up as a coach back in 2017. But the Cork native reveals how he'd secretly love to take part in another reality TV hit as a competitor. 'We love The [Great British] Bake Off, genuinely,' tells the star, who watched Tommy Tiernan's turn on the recent Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer on Channel 4. 'Like, we're addicted to it. 'I'd certainly love to give something like that [a go]. But, then again, I can't cope when it goes wrong. 'The kids all love baking, and they're good. 'I wish I was better at sticking with the process, but I'll always come up with some way of [taking shortcuts] — if the cake's ready in 20 minutes at 180C, if I crank it up to 200C, it'll be done in ten.' Read more Although he still weight trains, as much for mind as body, the Ireland rugby great laughs that he hasn't succumbed to the Hyrox craze: 'I slag a few of my friends that do it. 'If I could still do stuff like that, I'd be playing. But I do an awful lot of what I like doing. 'I train with a few buddies of mine — I'm actually training with [former Ireland rugby international] Tomás O'Leary at the moment. 'One thing I learned is I don't need to go to the well all the time. 'Whereas rugby, you finish empty — no matter what you do, you max out. 'It happened me on holidays, I was lifting weights, and I tried to go after a few weights that I hit on before and threw out my back, and I was no good for a week on the water slides. 'Like, who gives a s**t that you're PB-ing at 46?'

Stirling Uni lecturer sets Radio One 'abuzz' with special Taylor Swift cover

Listeners to the Radio One Breakfast Show were treated to an extra special version of one of the pop star's top hits - all from the perspective of a wasp. A Stirling University lecturer played a star turn on the biggest radio show in the country this morning when she shared her extra-special cover - from the perspective of a wasp. Dr Rebecca Boulton is a lecturer in the university's School of Biological and Environmental Sciences who studies the evolution and mating practices of insects. ‌ However, she took her mission to spread the gospel about the positives of the often ill-regarded pests to the airwaves of Greg James' Radio One show and treated listeners to her version of Taylor Swift's 'Anti Hero'. ‌ Rebecca and host James sang along to the extra-special version - performed from a wasp's perspective - which was first penned by the lecturer and her friend for the Edinburgh Fringe. On the show, she explained about her work and also said the aim of the song was to "change the reputation" of wasps. ‌ After singing together live on air, James said to the Stirling expert: "Becky, that is so good, I love you for that and I love your brain. "Not only are you a lecturer, but you're a fun lecturer and that means you've changed the world!"# He then invited Rebecca back on to the show to perform more of her bizarre catalogue, including one track which she says discusses the topic of insect genitalia to the tune of Robin Thicke's song 'Blurred Lines'. On her personal page, Dr Boulton describes herself as an "evolutionary ecologist interested in how animals find mates, how many times they mate, and who they mate with". She continues: "I work with parasitoid wasps which are ecologically and economically very important. "Many parasitoid species attack pest species like aphids and caterpillars; healthy populations of parasitoid wasps can reduce and even eliminate the need for using chemical pesticides."

Now the former This Morning anchor has taken to his page on X to upload a snap from 2022, showing him standing tall and looking svelte in a suit. Behind him, a silver DeLorean car with the registration plate ANZ 2047 was parked up. In his bittersweet caption he wrote: Great picture popped up from 3 years but it's made me sad - I could walk." The GB News anchor added: "Got to redouble my efforts." One fan was quick to offer positive vibes and wrote: "Keep pushing forward, Eamonn. Perseverance always pays off. "Wishing you strength, good health, and all the very best ahead." Another urged: "Keep fighting Eamonn," as a third put: "Stay strong Eamonn, you can do it, believe!" One cheerily posted: "Wolf whistle still got it Eamonn." TOUGH TIME It has been a painful time for Eamonn of late - who is also in the midst of a divorce from ex Ruth Langsford, 65, and a battle over their £3.6million home. Eamonn Holmes reveals injured area after shock fall live on TV The presenter, 65, ended up on his back on set just two weeks after he was rushed to hospital in another fall. He was hailed as a "trooper" by his colleagues - who praised him for keeping calm and carrying on. Speaking at the end of the show, Eamonn told viewers: "The chair gave way and I was lying flat on my back with my head hanging off the set. "The first hour or so I was OK because the adrenaline kicked in, but then as the morning went on I felt the aches and pains. Ruth and Eamonn's relationship timeline Before the shock split announcement, Ruth and Eamonn seemed like one of the strongest couples on UK TV – even with their signature bickering style. Here's how their romance played out... 1997 - The couple first meet after being introduced by mutual friends, two years after Eamonn splits from his first wife, Gabrielle, with whom he has three children. 1997-2002 - To be respectful to Gabrielle, the couple kept their relationship out of the limelight. Ruth told Daily Mail: "I thought it spoke volumes about the sort of man he was, the sort of father he was and the integrity he had. It made me love him more, not less." 2002 - Ruth and Eamonn welcome their son, Jack, to the family. 2005 - Eamonn finalises his divorce with Gabrielle. 2006 - The pair begin to host Friday episodes of This Morning together. 2010 - Eamonn proposes to Ruth while at the Cheltenham Races, after asking Ruth's mother for her hand. June 2010 - Eamonn and Ruth marry at Elvetham Hall, Hampshire. 2016 - Eamonn undergoes a double hip replacement in the first of many health battles. June 2019 - On This Morning, Ruth and Eamonn say the secret to their happy marriage. Eamonn credits "compromise, consideration and lots of conjugal," while Ruth said it was "laughter and an equal marriage". November 2020 - Ruth and Eamonn are replaced on their regular Friday slot by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary in a 'show shake-up'. December 2021 - After a year of being moved to the bank holiday presenting slot, both Eamonn and Ruth left This Morning. January 2022 - Eamonn debuted on GB News, while Ruth stayed with ITV in her long-standing role on Loose Women. September 2022 - Eamonn undergoes spinal surgery after years of back issues including a trapped sciatic nerve. November 2022 - Eamonn falls down the stairs of his Surrey home with Ruth and breaks his shoulder, requiring a new operation. September 2023 - Eamonn has a spine and neck stretching procedure as part of his year-long recovery. May 2024 - Ruth and Eamonn announce they have split after 14 years of marriage and a 27-year relationship. September 2024 - Eamonn was spotted on a luxury holiday in Barcelona with his new girlfriend Katie Alexander. Ruth calls in a 'fierce' divorce lawyer. "The worst thing is that two weeks ago I was hospitalised for a similar fall in the same area, back of my neck, head and shoulders and that's all come back." He added: "We're going to have to replace the chairs because I'm not the only one to have fallen." HEALTH WOE Weeks before, he disappeared off his TV show again amid his split with ex Ruth. Eamonn had a double hip replacement in 2016 yet has been suffering from chronic pain since a follow-up spinal operation in September 2022. Added to this, in early 2021, Eamonn was rushed to hospital after suffering from "pain he's never felt in his life." In addition to his other health woes, Eamonn suffered a fall at his Surrey home - which he previously shared with ex Ruth - which left him with a fractured shoulder in 2023. In September 2023, he was seen eating ice cream in a mobility scooter while months later, he was spotted using a walking frame. Eamonn was seen with the latter as he attended the TRIC Awards in London, sparking concern when he said he was "not OK." Yet last year, he stood tall without his walking frame. 6 He has suffered from chronic pain since a spinal operation in 2022 Credit: Getty 6 Eamonn recently explained his injuries after falling from his chair at work Credit: GB News
