I'm grew up in one of the UK's most ‘boring' towns – it's anything but with Netflix filming and beautiful castles

WHEN I was growing up in Grantham, it wasn't uncommon to hear the word 'boring' thrown around - and not just because I was a sullen teenager, In fact, the south-west Lincolnshire town where I whiled away my childhood had been branded dull on a number of occasions. 8 I grew up in Grantham and it's anything but boring 8 The town is known for being the home of Margaret Thatcher - when it was first named a dull town by Radio 1 Credit: Alamy It was dubbed the 'most boring town in Britain' in a 1980 Radio One survey, when its most famous former resident, Margaret Thatcher, was prime minister. It still makes me chuckle that when That the town is still shorthand for 'monotony' is an unfortunate fact raised again by a new Daily Telegraph round-up that has made headlines in the past few weeks. Grantham sits amongst Read more on UK towns However, now in my 30s, I can't help but disagree that, from things to do to sites to see, my hometown isn't so uninteresting after all. If you're into history , then Grantham has centuries of it - with sites arguably as impressive as nearby Stamford or There's the blue plaque to spy on the side of a shop on the town's North Parade where Thatcher was born in 1925 - which also happens to be a chiropractic clinic and natural therapy centre, called Living Health , if you fancy a massage too. There's likewise the Angel and Royal hotel - aged 821 years - which is believed to be one of the oldest hotels in the world, and has hosted no fewer than seven kings and queens. Most read in News Travel Even if you don't stay in one of its 31 bedrooms, you still pop in to the The Kings Room restaurant, as well as The Angel Bar - which serves cocktails and tapas. Just outside town, in the village of Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, is the National Trust property Woolsthorpe Manor - the former home of Sir Isaac Newton. Grantham - underrated town of the Midlands It was from a tree at the premises that he famously saw the apple drop, leading to the discovery of Grantham has certainly had its brush with celebrity over the years, and usually as a filming location for iconic films and Netflix series. grand National Trust property on the edge of town - and a must-see in its own right - was famously enlisted for the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice starring More recently, the 17th-century mansion was used for the Bridgerton spin-off Queen Charlotte - in which it doubles up as the interior for Kew Palace and the exterior for Buckingham House. Currently, the most famous local residents are arguably Rebekah Vardy and her husband, If you like a good catch-up over a cappuccino, things have come a long way since I was a kid when the best place for a caffeine hit in town was Costa. Westgate Bakery is just off the Market Place, which hosts a market every Saturday selling all manner of lovely local produce, from honey to veg. The 14th-century Grantham House, yet another National Trust property, is currently the talk of the town since opening a new cafe within its five acres of walled gardens in April. Other local favourites for a cuppa include Kitchen and Coffee and the café at Belton Garden Centre. 8 Belvoir Castle was used to film The Da Vinci Code Credit: Alamy 8 The Angel and Royal is one of the UK's oldest hotels Credit: Alamy The aforementioned Belvoir Castle's Retail Village is also great spot to spend an afternoon, and you can also pick up some nice bits from the farm shop too. Fancy something stronger? The Blue Pig, a 16th-century watering hole, is perfect for a pint, while The Tap & Tonic is unrivalled for cocktails. If you're after a way to blow off some steam - and perhaps have little ones in tow - then Grantham actually has plenty of things to do. The Grantham Meres Leisure Centre boasts a semi-Olympic-sized swimming pool, along with three leisure pools and its very own big windy slide. Feeling competitive? Grantham Bowl has 12 lanes and an American-style diner for refreshments, while you can go go-karting at Ancaster Leisure which has one of the biggest tracks in the region. In fact, for kids, you also can't go wrong with a trip to Belton House's adventure playground, which is the National Trust's largest in the country. For adults who fancy a bit of relaxation, then the country hotel Belton Woods is home to a popular spa and golf course. When I was growing up the cinema had just two screens and was a bit tired - however the shiny new five-screen Savoy Cinema multiplex was built on the same site and opened in 2019. One of my favourite free activities? A rural hike up to Belmont Tower - just a ten-minute drive outside town - from which you can see for miles on a clear day. So with the historic hotels, famous castles and new attractions - Grantham is anything but boring. 8 It definitely isn't a boring town - I can vouch for that Credit: Getty

Dani Dyer and Jarrod Bowen's sweet romance as loved-up couple marry

Dani Dyer and Jarrod Bowen are set to exchange vows in an intimate ceremony attended by just 50 guests in a Bridgerton inspired wedding today Dani Dyer and Jarrod Bowen's romance has been a fairytale, which today will get a happy ending as the couple are set to marry. Former Love Island star Dani, 28, is set to walk down the aisle and say I do to West Ham captain, also 28, in a traditional Bridgerton inspired wedding in the English countryside today. The special day is set to be a low-key affair as the celebrity couple have invited just 50 guests to celebrate their big day with them. ‌ Family means a lot to the couple – which will be reflected in their nuptials as Dani's actor dad Danny Dyer will walk his daughter down the aisle while the couple's twins Summer and Star, two, will act as flower girls. Meanwhile Dani's son from her previous romance with Sammy Kimmence, Santiago, four, will be page boy alongside the star's brother Arty. ‌ Details of the day sound like something out of a storybook, much like their romance. Dani shot to fame on Love Island and went public with her relationship with her footballer boyfriend in December 2021. Since then, they've been serving up serious couple goals on social media. The pair are now proud parents to twin girls, and Dani has previously gushed that she "can't stop smiling" around her beautiful family. We've delved into their adorable love story, from their first meeting to their cosy Essex abode as the couple make their vows to one another today... Beginning of Dani and Jarrod's romance ‌ Speculation about their romance started after Jarrod was seen leaving Dani's Essex house in October 2021, dressed casually in a grey hoodie and driving his Mercedes. Shortly after Jarrod's departure, Dani stepped out in her gym gear. The following month, Dani treated her followers to a glimpse of her romantic retreat with the footballer. She was welcomed with a stunning array of red roses at the posh hotel, and they kicked off their stay with a bit of bubbly. They went official with their romance at the tail end of 2021. Family life In an unexpected twist early in 2023, Dani and Jarrod shared the joyful news that they were expecting twins. On May 25, the proud mum introduced her little ones to the world with an adorable snap of the newborns. ‌ The twins were captured cosied up together in their hospital cot, donning matching hats and garments. She later revealed that they had decided on the names Summer and Star for their babies. Responding to a fan's curiosity about the name choices, Dani explained that Star had been a beloved name since her childhood, while Jarrod had always had a soft spot for the name Summer, making it a "easy decision". The reality TV star is also a mother to Santiago, whom she shares with her former partner Sammy Kimmence. Dani and Jarrod's wedding will cement the brood's blended family status. Ex Love Islander Dani has previously gushed about how Jarrod has embraced the role of being a stepdad to Santi. She previously said: "He [Jarrod] is always so good, when he came into our lives Santi was just eight months and I knew then that he was the one. I want to be as chilled as Jarrod, he's so laid back and I think that works because I worry and he's not like that at all." ‌ Cheeky football chants The world of football can sometimes get a bit cheeky with its chants, and West Ham's Bowen has inspired one that's certainly not suitable for work. After his transfer from Hull City to West Ham in February 2020 for a reported £22 million, Bowen quickly won over the fans, particularly after scoring the decisive goal that secured the Europa Conference League for the Hammers. The supporters have concocted a chant for him, set to the tune of Freed From Desire, which delves quite personally into his relationship with Dani Dyer. Surprisingly, Dani's dad, Danny Dyer, a staunch West Ham fan himself, finds the chant rather charming. Dyer revealed on The Jonathan Ross Show: "There is a chant, which I think is quite sweet," before disclosing the lyrics: "When he scores, and he does score a lot, [the fans chant]: 'Bowen's on fire and he's s***ing Dani Dyer!'. I've been over there when they're singing it, jumping around. Is that wrong?". ‌ WAG status Dani is a huge supporter of Jarrod's footie career and has travelled the Germany to support Jarrod throughout the UEFA Euro tournament in 2024. The Love Island star brought her children to witness Jarrod's games, confessing that although 'hard travelling with little ones', it's unquestionably 'worth it'. When asked about handling the journeys with her twins to see Bowen, she said: "I'm exhausted now haha but it's all worth it and I've been flying backwards and forwards. Sometimes I've taken kids and others just gone on my own. It is hard travelling with the little ones it's all the stuff you need and they didn't nap once when travelling. (they are terrible at napping outdoors) but other than that it's been okay with them and they got to see Jarrod which was lovely." ‌ Further, she added: "It has been tough... I'm a needy girlfriend currently and looking forward to having him back and giving him the kids." Danny Dyer's seal of approval EastEnders star Danny Dyer has been vocal about his staunch support of Dani's romance Jarrod – which is greatly helped by his role as the captain of Danny's beloved team West Ham. ‌ During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show in February this year, Danny gushed over Dani and Jarrod's engagement and spoke of his role on the big day. He said: "The idea of giving your daughter away - I don't like that. But if you're going to give your daughter away, give your daughter to the West Ham captain! It's amazing". Clearly a Hammers fan, Danny piled on the praise for his soon-to-be son-in-law, opening up about how he had been extremely emotional when fiancé Jarrod asked for Dani's hand. The East Londoner complimented Jarrod, calling him a "very humble, brilliant, beautiful man who worships the ground she walks on," recalling how he had called to "ask for the hand in marriage" which brought him "on the verge of tears". He joked: "I was trying to be the hard man of course". The age-old tradition meant a lot to the actor as her explained how he asked for his own father-in-law's blessing at the time of proposing to his wife Joanne. Danny described how he "went round there" to ask but didn't "think he was a massive fan of [his] to be fair. I was a bit of a t**t to be honest".

Netflix goes down, viewers panic, and the memes take over

If your Netflix binge came to a sudden halt recently, you weren't alone. The streaming giant faced a surprise outage, leaving thousands of users around the world scratching their heads, refreshing their screens, and asking the all-important question: 'Is it just me?' Spoiler alert: it wasn't. Viewers across the U.S., Canada, and parts of Asia were hit by a frustrating error message when trying to stream their favorite shows. Within minutes, social media lit up with reports of the glitch. According to Netflix's own help page, error code usually pops up when there's an issue with cached data stored on your device. Translation? Your phone, TV, or laptop got a little too comfortable and needs a reset. The platform recommends clearing your cache, restarting the app, or reinstalling it altogether, pretty standard tech-fix stuff. But for many, it didn't work. The outage hit during peak viewing hours, which only made the frustration worse. People were trying to unwind with 'Bridgerton,' catch up on 'Baby Reindeer,' or finally watch that documentary everyone's been recommending. Instead, they got a looping loading screen and a lot of confusion. Downdetector, a site that monitors online service disruptions, saw a spike in reports, mostly from mobile and smart TV users. Netflix, for its part, has remained pretty quiet. No official tweet, no Instagram story update, not even a cheeky meme acknowledging the chaos. As of now, there's no word on what caused the glitch or how long it'll take to fix it completely. But of course, this is the internet. And if there's one thing the internet does best—aside from arguing and oversharing—it's making memes out of everything. Users quickly turned the outage into comedy gold. Netflix at the moment… Reasons for keeping Twitter/X? So I have someplace to check if Netflix is also down for everyone else. Of course Netflix is down when I want to watch something for once For now, if you're still seeing the 'title not available' message, you're not cursed—it's just a temporary hiccup. Try restarting the app, clearing cached data, or, if you're really desperate, maybe even reading a book (gasp!). Or better yet, join the rest of the world on Twitter/X and bond over the fact that sometimes even a tech titan like Netflix has its off days.

‘Bridgerton' star Genevieve Chenneour ‘left with concussion' after trying to stop teen thief who stole her mobile phone

Genevieve Chenneour was 'left with concussion' after attempting to stop a teenage thief who stole her mobile phone, The 30-year-old star, best known for appearing in season three of 'Bridgerton' as Clara Livingston, was targeted during a visit to Joe The Juice in Kensington, south-west London. According to a court report by The Sun, the incident occurred in February when Zacariah Boulares, 18, snatched Genevieve's phone while she was seated in the café. As she tried to prevent him from fleeing, Boulares physically assaulted another customer who intervened to help. Genevieve told a court she sustained a concussion during the incident and added that even her dog was 'traumatised'. Boulares appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (28.05.25), where he pleaded guilty to the theft of Genevieve's phone. He also admitted a charge of common assault against Carlo Kurcishi, a customer who attempted to assist during the altercation. According to court documents, Boulares punched and kicked Carlo during the struggle. He further pleaded guilty to a separate theft – the stealing of a black leather handbag from a diner at a pizza restaurant. The court was told Boulares, an Algerian national, has 12 previous convictions linked to 28 separate offences, all involving theft. Magistrates remanded him in custody ahead of sentencing, which is scheduled for 17 June at Isleworth Crown Court. Genevieve has also appeared in the historical film '1242: Gateway to the West'. In addition to her acting career, she is a former professional athlete, having represented Team GB in artistic swimming at the Baku 2015 European Games. Speaking about the attack, Genevieve said: 'Even my dog was traumatised.' She added: 'I was left with a concussion. It was completely unexpected and extremely frightening.' The court heard Boulares' thefts took place in public venues and that he had a persistent record of similar crimes.

Adults Reveal The Most "Out Of Touch" Things Gen Z Says

It's no secret that young people can be pretty clueless sometimes. As a young person myself, I'll be the first to admit it. Particularly given the fact that Gen Z and Gen Alpha grew up with technology, our lack of experience in an internet-less world might make us a bit less wise on certain topics. But that's why we gotta swallow our pride and look to older generations (yes, like millennials) to teach us. Recently, we asked the BuzzFeed Community to share the most out-of-touch things they've ever heard a young person say, and the answers were kinda mind-boggling. So here's what people said... "I was helping my 16-year-old niece with her short story analysis essay for literature class. She kept complaining how dumb the assignment was, as 'analyzing stories or even writing essays is a useless activity that no one does past college unless they are, like, writers or something. Like, who cares? Besides, you can literally find a TikTok that will explain a story or ask ChatGPT to write it for you.' Oh, sweet child! Scary thing is, this is how a lot of young people think. But analyzing literature or essay-writing is literally how critical thinking skills are honed. Allowing AI to craft an argument for you or taking some rando on the internet's word as gospel because it is the easy route is disturbing." "We had training at work to help us avoid burnout. The trainer was in her early 20s, and said we should take a 15-minute break every hour. On top of our full lunch break. It did not occur to her that if we have time to miss one quarter of the working day, we would not be burnt out." "I'm a teacher, and my students do not care about anything. They think they're all going to be famous, so they don't need math. I brought up how hard it is to be famous and they're like, 'My mom will support me.' Also, they're repeatedly shocked when I talk about how much I enjoy reading for fun." "Someone in the Gen Z range told me 'I didn't consent to seeing a sex scene' after watching Bridgerton. I was like, 'So turn it off then…'. You're responsible for your own media experience — it's not like anyone is forcing you to watch." "A kid said to me shortly after returning from COVID lockdowns, 'You wouldn't understand. My generation has lived through so much.' It didn't go over well when I pointed out that, as a person who was older than them and not dead, I'd actually ALSO lived through those things. Plus a few before!" "I had a kid ask me once if you had to go college to be a doctor. I said 'Yes,' and he said 'Never mind then.'" "My younger brother-in-law wanted to live off investments like I do. At that time he was in his early 30s and unemployed, while I was 65, retired, and receiving pension cheques as well as investment income." "In general, whenever I say to some young person, 'Thank you,' they always say 'No problem.' WTF happened to 'You're welcome'? What problem? Am I annoying you, asking for something, or somehow offending you? It's not even proper human communication, and reeks of condescension. It's like saying 'Hello,' and they say 'Whatever.'" "I told a 17-year-old what my rent was, and she responded with, 'Do you mean that you have to pay to live here?'" "When they say, 'I voted for Trump because *insert dumbass reason they got from TikTok here*.'" "I grew up going to parochial schools. With years of cursive training, my handwriting is excellent. Now I write notes to my children, now parents, in cursive. Their children cannot read the notes I write to them! They have to go to their parents to translate the notes I send to my grandchildren, all straight-A students. What a shame!" "A lot of young people feel they're entitled to very high salaries when they enter the workforce. I interviewed someone a few years ago for an entry-level or one step above entry level assistant position. It was 40 hours per week, no overtime, no weekends. This person was already working as an assistant (probably 23 or 24 years old), so when I asked what their salary expectation was (don't @ me — it was listed in the description but people with more experience than others often deserve more), they told me they were looking for $120K. I was stunned. I finally managed to say, 'If you're making anywhere close to $120K now, stay at your current job.'" "It drives me crazy that the younger generation is using machines to do their thinking for them. In my junior year of high school, I quickly learned to use my imagination for critical thinking and writing skills — that and taking a composition class in college developed me into a writer. It doesn't seem like the younger generation is the same way." "When I was younger, if we had our phones out at school, they would take them and then our parents would have to come get it from the office. Every generation up until recently managed to survive going to school without a phone, but nobody seems to have any social skills anymore. It's embarrassing." Now, tell us: what's the dumbest, most ignorant thing young people need to stop doing? Fill out this quick form, or post a comment below!
