Kevin Bridges calls out pro-Israel trolling on Twitter
Earlier on Monday, the Clydebank-born stand-up comedian condemned a "horrendous" Israeli attack on Palestinians at an aid distribution site in Gaza. He shared a tweet from Sky News which stated: "BREAKING: More than 30 people have been killed after Israeli troops opened fire towards crowds of Palestinians waiting for aid, according to witnesses and hospital officials". Quoting the tweet, Bridges said: "Insane how desensitised we're becoming to these daily headlines and how it's just accepted now. Horrendous." Just hours later, Bridges returned to Twitter/X after he received backlash for his comments from pro-Israel accounts. He said: "Reading too many replies on this bampot of an app would melt anyone's head but to be clear... Obviously October 7th was horrific and what made it horrific was the killing of innocent people - something that's happened nearly every day since. "The apathy being shown towards footage of children dying and people starving is heartbreaking and should transcend any ideology. There are people in power who could surely stop this. This is all." A spokesperson for Bridges confirmed he was not planning on quitting the social media platform.

Leon Bridges review: Soul power of Texan star shines through at rain-soaked Iveagh Gardens, Dublin
Leon Bridges, Iveagh Gardens, Dublin ★★★★☆ A newspaper in his home town of Fort Worth, Texas once described Leon Bridges as someone whose 'music sounds like he looks' and they were bang on. When he appeared to a sold-out Iveagh Gardens resplendent in a light blue demi safari suit and oversized shades, the handsome 36-year old looked like he'd just stepped out of an early 1970s episode of Soul Train. Even if you happened to be wearing earmuffs, you could've still hazarded a fair guess at what he was hawking. Bridges has released four excellent albums in the last ten years, veering from Motown stomp to progressive R&B, and last year's Leon is his best yet, a rich southern soul stew with even a hint of Van Morrison about it. He got down to business with two of its strongest cuts, the Marvin Gaye-ish When A Man Cries and a marvellous 'trip down memory lane' with Panther City, a tune which evoked the Isley Brothers at their breezy best. His superb seven-piece band were groovier than a new set of tires from the off but Bridges voice was equal to them, smooth as silk at the mic in between bouts of rug cutting to the Hammond swirl of Better Man or the bass-driven Northern Soul chug of Flowers. Leon Bridges and his band on stage at Iveagh Gardens, Dublin. 'What's up Dublin? Make some noise,' was pretty much the extent of his inter-song patter, and even though Leon isn't quite up there with his idols in the showman stakes, it didn't really matter as he testified his way through songs as great as Coming Home. Sadly, while every soul present was on Bridges' side, the weather wasn't. Once the serious rain got started, it didn't let up which always puts a damper on an outdoor show. Still, two of his collaborations with fellow Texans (and hipster Shadows) Khruangbin – Mariella and a well-received, if unfortunately titled, Texas Sun – did their best to keep spirits up. Better again was a three-song run from 2018's Good Thing. You Don't Know, Bad Bad News, and If It Feels Good (Then It Must Be) all proved irresistible, taking us from the discotheque to a head-nodding jazz club to a Pharrell Williams/Nile Rodgers rump shaker. The latter even had his two guitarists temporarily going Disco Lizzy as they harmonised lines. Shapes were thrown by smiling faces despite the downpour. River, a moving, gospel-tinged plea for spiritual renewal, found the sodden crowd in fine voice, Peaceful Place reminded one of Paul Simon's world music forays, and the closing Beyond is a love song Sam Cooke would have considered a good day's work. Bridges offered his thanks for us putting up with the rain. He was worth a soaking.

Odisha government scraps tender for construction of Mahanadi bridge near Satkosia
BHUBANESWAR: Odisha government has scrapped the tender floated for construction of a high-level bridge over Mahanadi river near the ecologically-sensitive Satkosia Tiger Reserve. The bridge plan was taken up without obtaining mandatory clearances from the statutory bodies of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). This newspaper had reported the story. An official document of the Works department, accessed by The New Indian Express, said, 'The project proposal will now be uploaded on the e-Parivesh portal for obtaining all necessary statutory clearances after which its execution will be taken up.' Sources in the Works department said, the chief engineer, Bridges cancelled the March 28 tender citing that due procedure will be followed to obtain all statutory clearances required for its execution in the ecologically-sensitive area. The bridge project had been planned to be executed at an investment of `131.51 crore to connect Narsinghpur-Baliput PWD road to Badmul, a scenic site located within Baisipalli wildlife sanctuary under Satkosia Tiger Reserve. Though the bridge and its approach road fall within a few hundred metres of the core area of the tiger reserve, it was alleged that the government proceeded with the tender without obtaining necessary clearances from the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) and National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). Environmentalists and wildlife experts who raised objections had cautioned that the project could cause irreversible damage to the fragile ecosystem of Satkosia. Meanwhile, in view of the sensitive nature of the proposed bridge over Chilika lake, the regional officer, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has intimated the Works department that they would appoint competent agencies to conduct studies and assessments, and comply with the terms of reference recommended by the MoEFCC under the provision of EAI notification 2006. The 7.74-km project, estimated at a cost of around `526.08 crore, had prompted the expert appraisal committee (EAC) of MoEFCC to seek a cost-benefit analysis from the state government. During a meeting in December last year, the EAC observed that around 3.4-km length of the proposed bridge falls under the draft eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) boundary of Nalabana (Chilika) Wildlife Sanctuary. It had sought clarification from NHAI for the necessity of constructing the bridge project at the site. Department sources said the status of the Mahanadi bridge and Chilika bridge projects has been communicated to the Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee (CEC) that sought clarification from the government on both the matters recently.
