No clowns or prima donnas: Bo Nix praises mentality of Broncos' locker room

Bo Nix likes the state of the Denver Broncos' locker room going into his second season in the NFL. The Broncos have the highest rate (86%) of returning players in the league, giving them plenty of continuity as they approach the 2025 campaign. Denver also has a close-knit squad off the field, and Nix believes that will pay dividends on the field. "I'm playing with a similar team as we did last year," Nix said last week. "Not a lot of turnover. Then we added some special guys that were good locker room guys, good teammates, have that history of working hard, being experienced. They're going to make a big difference for us. We're all just trying to compete to get better. We're all trying to make each other better. I think that's just kind of showing in the locker room, out on the field, in the cafeteria. We just have a close team." Broncos general manager George Paton and coach Sean Payton have been deliberate in finding high-character players to add to the locker room, and Nix praised the group's mentality. "I think it starts with, honestly, the type of people we have in the locker room," Nix said. "We don't have any clowns. We don't have any guys that are hard to get along with. We just have good people, good dudes that are all here for one reason, and that's one team goal and just to get better. We don't really have a lot of prima donnas, which is good.' No clowns. No prima donnas. Just hard-working players seeking a Super Bowl. That's exactly the kind of roster that can help Denver return to chasing championships. Do Broncos fans want a domed stadium? Damani Leech weighs in

As the Denver Broncos consider the possibility of building a new stadium (they say no decision has been made yet), there has been speculation that the team could build a domed stadium to improve their chances of hosting a cold-weather Super Bowl down the road. When speaking to media members at training camp last week, team president Damani Leech was asked if he thinks fans would prefer an open-air stadium over a closed stadium. 'I think you're going to get a mix of reactions there," Leech said. "Our survey we did about a year ago got a lot of great feedback from our fans; we got great feedback from our partners and premium holders. When we get to that point [of making a decision], we'll dig back into that data, but we're far from designing anything at this stage.' Interestingly, Leech did not reveal what kind of feedback the survey got from fans about a dome. He did say he believes there will be mixed reactions on the topic. The Broncos have said they still haven't decided on if they will stay at their current location, and Leech discussed the status of Empower Field at Mile High last week. 'Our lease ends in 2030, and that's certainly a mile marker we're taking into account," Leech said. "That being said, as you know, our ownership group has done a tremendous amount of resource commitment to the stadium. The Metropolitan Football Stadium District has been great partners. We feel like the stadium is really in great shape. That being said, in five more years, our lease will be up and it'll be a 30-year-old stadium. "On a macro level, you look around the league, what's happening: Stadiums built in that era, some younger, are either being built new or taking on significant renovations, you look at Carolina and Jacksonville. So that's certainly something we're thinking about. We're also thinking about this in terms of the next 30 years and what we'll need to serve our football program, but also our fans.' It typically takes about four years to build a new NFL stadium, and the team has six more seasons on its lease at Empower Field at Mile High. So the Broncos still have some time before they need to make a decision. The wait for an announcement continues. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Sean Payton gave a unique comparison for Broncos LB Dre Greenlaw

Dre Greenlaw packs a punch. After spending the first six years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, the 28-year-old linebacker signed a three-year, $31.5 million contract with the Denver Broncos this spring. Greenlaw is considered one of the NFL's best linebackers when healthy, evidenced by the fact that league executives, coaches and scouts ranked him as the ninth-best LB in 2025 even after he missed most of 2024 due to injury. Turn on a Broncos game this season, and you can't miss No. 57's physicality on defense. 'I think it's one of his greatest strengths," coach Sean Payton said of Greenlaw's physicality. "He plays the position in such a way where you can't help but notice it on film. His pad level, his strength, his lower body strength. It's impressive. I'm glad we have him.' In his last healthy season, Greenlaw totaled 120 tackles, four pass breakups and 1.5 sacks in 15 games with the 49ers in 2023. He's now set to anchor Denver's inside linebacker room, and Payton used a unique comparison for the LB's style. 'He plays like Mike Tyson," Payton said. "He's tough. He's physical. He's built that way. There's not a lot of leaky yardage. He's a knockback tackler. They stop where he hits them. There's an intensity to how he plays. He's one of those players where if you put the film on and didn't say anything, at some point early you would ask, 'Who is this guy?'' A linebacker being compared to a boxer? Believe it or not, Greenlaw's familiar with the comparison. 'Yeah, I've gotten that before for sure," Greenlaw said. "I don't know, I just like to play football and go out there, and I give it my all. You never know when it's going to be your last chance on the field, your last chance to play, so you want to make a statement anytime you can. I just love doing it and am thankful to be able to do it.' Greenlaw will serve as one of the two starting inside linebackers in defensive coordinator Vance Joseph's scheme this fall. He will be joined by Alex Singleton (after Singleton returns from a broken thumb with a club) when the Broncos host the Tennessee Titans in their season opener on Sept. 7 (view the full schedule).
