Shedeur Sanders Posts Cryptic 3-Word Message About Browns Future
Shedeur Sanders Posts Cryptic 3-Word Message About Browns Future originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns' four-player quarterback competition between Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders has been one of the most-talked about storyline of the NFL offseason. Advertisement Head coach Kevin Stefanski has maintained ever since the draft that all four players have an equal chance of winning the job, though many suspect it's Flacco's to lose given his experience as an NFL starter. 'Once you get into training camp, of course, you're getting ready to play games and ultimately getting ready for playing the season, but right now [deciding a starter is] not our focus,' Stefanski stated last month. The odds seem stacked against Sanders, who many expected to be a first-round draft pick back in April but fell to Round 5 in one of the biggest draft falls of all time. Flacco has a Super Bowl ring, Pickett is a former first-round pick with a 15-10 record as a starter in the NFL, and Gabriel was selected two rounds ahead of Sanders while he was still on the board. Advertisement And while the former Colorado quarterback and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year faces what many believe is an uphill battle to the QB1 spot, Sanders himself seemingly addressed his uncertain future with the Brown on his X account. 'Time will tell 🤫,' Sanders wrote, in what appears to be an acknowledgement to the fact that he's not a lock to make Cleveland's 53-man roster. The reports on where Sanders stands in the QB competition have varied. Some Browns beat reporters have claimed Sanders has stood out when he's gotten his reps, while others have claimed he's firmly in fourth place and a long shot to be on Cleveland's roster past training camp, which starts later this month. Advertisement However, if the Browns were to cut ties with Sanders, there will likely be a decent list of suitors for the 23-year-old passer. The Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins, and the Buffalo Bills, among others, have been linked to Sanders in recent weeks. Former NFL offensive lineman Roger Shoals dies at 86
Roger Shoals, an offensive lineman who spent a total of nine seasons in the NFL with the Browns, Lions and Broncos, has died at the age of 86. Shoals played his college football at Maryland and was a 16th round pick of the Browns in the 1961 NFL draft as well as a 34th round pick of the Dallas Texans in the 1962 AFL draft. It wasn't until 1963 that he chose to turn pro and picked the Browns and the NFL, and with that choice he became a member of one of the best teams in the league. In his second season, the Browns won the 1964 NFL Championship Game, and half a century later he still considered that his career highlight. 'That was heaven. The league sent us our rings. I still wear mine all the time even though people look at this old man and think 'What the hell is he doing with a diamond?'' Shoals told the Baltimore Sun in 2014. After two years in Cleveland, Shoals was traded to Detroit, where he became a starter on the Lions' offensive line. He spent six years with the Lions before he was traded again to the Broncos, retiring after one year in Denver in 1971.

Cleveland asks judge to halt all work on new Browns stadium in Brook Park
Cleveland had hoped to use The Art Modell Law to keep the Browns from leaving downtown for Brook Park. With Ohio changing the Modell law to allow an in-state move, the Browns had to move to Plan B. Via Adam Ferrise of Cleveland wants to halt all efforts to build a new stadium based on the terms of the team's current lease. On the surface, its no issue. The lease runs through 2028. The Browns, in theory, are free to play elsewhere as of 2029. At a deeper level, it's more complicated. The question is whether and to what extent the Browns may take affirmative steps to line up a new home before the lease expires. The city wants a court order preventing the Browns from doing anything in connection with the building of a new team until the lease ends — from funding to permitting to construction and beyond. The city also wants the Browns to be prevented from accepting money 'from any source' or to even 'carry out any negotiations for it.' The lawsuit, if successful, would essentially force the Browns to spend multiple lame-duck years in Cleveland without a long-term deal, while they get their new stadium built in Brook Park. It may be simply a leverage play aimed at striking a deal. A simple one, like the Browns agreeing to help pay for the demolition of the current stadium once the new one is open.

Cleveland launches search for lakefront developers
The city of Cleveland is officially seeking developers to transform up to 50 acres of its downtown lakefront into a year-round neighborhood — this time without the Cleveland Browns. Why it matters: This is the city's most ambitious lakefront redevelopment effort in decades. Mayor Justin Bibb sees it as an opportunity to undo past planning failures and finally connect the downtown core to Lake Erie. If successful, it would reorient downtown toward the water — a key component of Bibb's "Shore to Core to Shore" development framework — and create new housing, jobs, and cultural destinations in an area long occupied by surface lots and the Browns stadium. Driving the news: The city and its nonprofit development partner, the North Coast Waterfront Development Corporation (NCWDC), issued a formal request Tuesday to solicit interested developers. Developers have until Sept. 19 to submit. Zoom in: The city encourages a mix of uses on the waterfront site between West 3rd and East 9th streets, including retail, housing, entertainment, hotels, and public spaces. The request offers flexibility to repurpose or replace the existing stadium, which the city expects to be demolished in 2029 if the Browns move to Brook Park. Bibb told reporters last week that he hopes the Haslams will be "good corporate citizens" and contribute to demolition costs upon their exit. State of play: The city developed a lakefront master plan over three years of public engagement to identify core values for development, including racial equity, economic opportunity and climate resilience. Between the lines: That work was spearheaded by the landscape architecture firm Field Operations. The current request is for developers to execute on the vision. By the numbers: The city has already secured $150 million in federal and state grants to construct a pedestrian land bridge connecting downtown to the project site. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027. The city is also offering an array of "incentive opportunities," including residential and commercial tax abatements, TIFs, the Opportunity Zone designation, job creation tax credits and proceeds from a New Community Authority to finance infrastructure and public amenities. The last word: Bibb wrote the 50-acre North Coast site "sits at the intersection of civic pride, economic opportunity, and global ambition" in an introductory letter to developers.

Details emerge from Browns rookie Quinshon Judkins' domestic violence, battery arrest
Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins' arrest occurred Saturday after police had been called for a 'delayed battery' and then 'determined a battery had occurred,' a Fort Lauderdale Police Department Media Relations Unit spokesperson told ESPN. Police officers arrived at a location on West Cypress Creek Road around 9 a.m., spoke with the victim and then 'made contact' with Judkins, 21, to arrest him, Sergeant David Soika told the outlet in his statement. Advertisement It's unclear where Judkins, the former Ohio State star who was drafted in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, was located when police spoke with the victim, or when the alleged incident occurred. Judkins was charged with a misdemeanor battery (domestic) crime, according to the Soika's statement, and his inmate log described the charge as 'touch or strike/battery/domestic viol[ence].' Judkins, selected at No. 37 overall after helping the Buckeyes win the College Football Playoff championship last season, was positioned near the top of the Browns' running back depth chart entering training camp — with Nick Chubb leaving for a one-year, $2.5 million deal in Houston and Jerome Ford the only true competition for Judkins. AP Following two seasons with Ole Miss, Judkins transferred to Ohio State in 2024 and collected 1,060 yards — along with 14 touchdowns — during his final collegiate season.
