Which striker would United go for this summer?
After signing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, United are eyeing a move for a prolific No. 9. By Ravi Kumar Jha Published on July 24, 2025, 09:33 IST After signing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, United are eyeing a move for a prolific No. 9. Ruben Amorim is thinking of a team who can score more and more goals, and thus, they bought two top goalscorers of Premier League (2024/25 season), i.e. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. They are now looking at three of the options that is available in the market. Manchester United are showing no signs of slowing down in the transfer market. Under manager Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils are focused on building a high-scoring team, and the hunt is now on for a prolific No. 9. Amorim wants to boost his side's goal output even further, and United are considering three striker options currently available in the market: Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) Watkins had an outstanding campaign with Aston Villa, continuing to prove his credentials as one of the most consistent forwards in the Premier League. His movement, link-up play, and goal-scoring instincts make him an ideal fit for Amorim's attacking system. However, United have yet to make any formal contact with the Midlands club regarding a potential move. Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea) Another Premier League option is Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson. The Senegalese striker had a mixed season but showed flashes of brilliance with his pace and ability to stretch defences. Although Jackson remains on United's radar, no talks have taken place so far between the two clubs. Benjamin Šeško (RB Leipzig) The Slovenian forward is one of the most exciting young strikers in Europe. At just 22, Šeško has shown incredible potential at RB Leipzig with his physical presence, finishing ability, and intelligence in the box. He has been discussed internally at Old Trafford, but his €80 million price tag remains a significant obstacle. At this stage, United are reluctant to go that high for a young and relatively unproven talent at the top level. With Amorim aiming to form a lethal attacking force, United's next striker signing could be crucial. Manchester United Are Still Working On A Deal For This Brentford Forward: Decent Fit For Amorim?
In a recent newsletter with Give Me Sport, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned that Manchester United are still working on a deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo. Romano said, 'The negotiations are still ongoing, it's underway. So the deal is absolutely on.' Mbeumo's Impressive Form In The Premier League Mbeumo enjoyed a decent run of form at the English club after he put in a string of impressive performances for them in the Premier League. The 25-year-old scored 20 times and picked up nine assists in 42 matches for Brentford last season in all competitions. The Cameroonian sensation performed well to average 2.08 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, Mbeumo was a bit untidy with his ball distribution based on his pass success rate of 66.1% in the English first division (stats via Mbeumo is under contract at Brentford until the summer of 2026 which could make it tough for the Red Devils to sign him on a cut-price deal in this transfer period. Is Mbeumo A Decent Fit For Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim? Mbeumo is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some clever runs out on the flanks. He can strike the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. The Cameroonian sensation can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. He mainly functions as a right-winger but can also play as a centre-forward if told to do so. Mbeumo would enhance the quality of Man United head coach Ruben Amorim's attack. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting place at the Mancunian club next season. At 25, Mbeumo has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a good choice for the Red Devils to pursue in this summer transfer period. He already knows the Premier League well and is good enough to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford. Hence, Man United would be wise to try everything they can to lure Mbeumo to the Theatre of Dreams as he would be an excellent fit for their needs right now.

Keith Andrews Named Brentford Head Coach Following Thomas Frank Exit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Brentford have appointed Keith Andrews as their new head coach on a three-year deal, promoting the 44-year-old Irishman from within after a year as the club's set-piece coach. His elevation comes in the wake of Thomas Frank's move to who joined Brentford in July 2024, has previously held coaching roles with MK Dons, Sheffield United, and the Republic of Ireland national team. His appointment mirrors the soccer club's tradition of internal succession, as seen with Frank's own rise to the top job in 2018. Director of soccer Phil Giles endorsed the hire: 'Keith is a very good fit. He's detailed, and the players and staff like and respect him. Ruben Amorim braced for transfer blow ahead of Man Utd's Premier League opener
Manchester United have been busy in the window after signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, but neither player operates as a No.9 and the Red Devils are preparing to start the season without a new striker Manchester United are prepared to start the new season without a new striker leading their attack. A striker was United's priority in this summer's transfer window, after scoring just 44 goals in the Premier League last season as they finished 15th – their lowest placing for 51 years. But United's only two arrivals so far have been £62.5million signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for £71m, neither of whom operate as a No.9. United have seen their top striker targets go elsewhere this summer – Liam Delap joined Chelsea, Viktor Gyokeres is closing in on a move to Arsenal, while Hugo Ekitike is Liverpool-bound. Against that backdrop, senior figures at United have privately confided there is every chance they will start their Premier League opener at home to Arsenal on August 17 without a new striker. United retain an interest in Paris St Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani, who was on their radar two years ago when they eventually paid a grossly inflated fee of £72m for Rasmus Hojlund. The Red Devils could also do a swap deal involving winger Alejandro Garnacho – left out of the US tour squad after asking to leave – and Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, both valued at £40m. Garnacho wants to stay in the Premier League, with Chelsea his first-choice club, although there is a reluctance at United to sell him to a domestic rival in a move that could ultimately backfire. Jackson has been pushed down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Delap from Ipswich and Joao Pedro from Brighton, both of whom are ahead of him in terms of selection. United are focusing their transfer business this summer on players with proven Premier League experience who do not require a settling in period but who can hit the ground running. That approach has been underlined by their successful moves for Cunha and Mbeumo, with Jackson a viable option that would solve two problems - recruiting a new striker and offloading Garnacho. United's players trained on the hottest day of the year in Chicago on Wednesday, where temperatures reached 95F as Amorim's squad were put through their paces. It is set to be a similar story on Thursday, with the heatwave continuing, as United's players train at Soldier Field, home of NFL side Chicago Bears.
