Buddy Carter becomes first Republican to launch campaign for Ossoff's seat
Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) launched his candidacy for Senate in Georgia, the first of possibly several Republicans officially seeking to oust Sen. Jon Ossoff (D). 'Georgians will have a very simple choice in 2026: do you want a MAGA warrior for you or do you want a trans warrior for they/them? I'm with you. You can guess where Jon Ossoff is. Game on,' Carter wrote Thursday in a post on the social platform X. Carter's announcement comes after Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) made a much-anticipated decision against running for Senate in 2026. The popular two-term governor's decision was a blow to Republicans, as he was seen as the strongest opponent against Ossoff. Without Kemp in the race, attention turns to several possible candidates who may be looking at running including GOP Georgia Reps. Mike Collins, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rich McCormick, and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R). Carter's announcement video said Georgia 'spoke' in favor of President Trump in the November election, but Ossoff 'doesn't care.' It slammed Ossoff for votes against legislation that would have increased funding for border security and that would have pulled federal funding from schools that transgender girls and women to participate in girls and women's sports. 'Jon Ossoff is on the wrong side. Trump has a warrior in Buddy Carter,' the narrator states before the ad shows Trump praising the congressman. 'Buddy helped Trump secure our border and put America first.' Ossoff, a Democratic senator in a state Trump carried, will be a top target for the GOP in next year's midterms. Carter told reporters Georgia needs a senator who will advance Trump's 'America First' policies. He acknowledged the primary could become crowded but said he's running on his record. He said he was waiting for Kemp to make his decision before announcing his own decision. 'I'm for the people of Georgia. I'm for the people who voted for America First policies, and I've been supporting the president ever since I've been up here,' he said. Ossoff's campaign manager Ellen Foster said in a statement that the first-term senator will defeat any Republican challenger he faces. 'While the GOP primary field scrambles to outmaneuver each other and audition for Donald Trump's support, Senator Ossoff's campaign is already building the most effective and unstoppable turnout effort in Georgia's history,' Foster said. The Senate Democrats' campaign arm was quick to denounce Carter's candidacy, saying he 'is kicking off a messy, divisive primary in Georgia that will expose their flawed candidates and leave them with a damaged nominee.' The group said in a statement that Ossoff is 'a champion for Georgians and we are confident he will hold this seat in 2026.' Greene, who has said she's considering a run of her own — as well as a potential gubernatorial bid to replace the term-limited Kemp — said she isn't worried about a messy primary in response to Carter's announcement. 'If I were to get in, I'm not concerned about it at all,' she told reporters. 'Every single poll shows that I overwhelmingly win.' Julia Manchester contributed. ‘Here we grow again': Quacco Road expansion is underway
POOLER, Ga. (WSAV) – Pooler officials held a groundbreaking for the Quacco Road expansion, as the city experiences rapid growth. The city celebrated the $25 million project, one of the single largest investments in Pooler history. It is aimed to relieve congestion for drivers who travel this busy road. Several city officials, along with Rep. Buddy Carter, were in attendance. 'This level of investment is significant in its achievement, demonstrating that Pooler continues to exceed expectations,' Mayor of Pooler Karen Williams said. 'The Quacco Road widening has been years in the making, reflecting our city's rapid growth and increasing demand of our transportation network. As Pooler expands, so too must our infrastructure.' The project includes a new four lane roadway that will stretch from Blue Moon Crossing, past Canal Bank Road. It features a new signalized intersection, traffic signal upgrades and sidewalks and a multi-use trail. '…moving through our city is an important aspect of city government and most importantly, whether it's police, fire or public safety,' Heath Lloyd, Pooler city manager said. 'Wider roads really help with that response time. And so, this is an improvement that's going to touch all aspects of living in the city of Pooler…' The investment is made possible through voter approved SPLOST VII funding. City officials said they do not have plans to close the road during construction, but they urged drivers to remain patient throughout the process. 'There is a phase two project that we hope to move forward right behind to expand this whole network,' Lloyd said. 'Also, we're working with our partners with Chatham County. They are expanding on the other side of Interstate 95. So, we believe that this entire structure will be expanded to four lanes in the near future.' The project is projected to wrap up in just under three years. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

SCOOP: GOP push for new House committee to probe Biden decline 'cover-up' gains steam
FIRST ON FOX: House Republicans are mounting a push to start a new select committee focused on investigating the Biden administration for allegedly "covering up" signs of the 82-year-old former president's decline. Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., is introducing legislation Thursday that would establish a panel of congressional investigators to "investigate and report upon the facts of President Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr.'s cognitive and physical health decline and the potential concealment of information from the American public," according to bill text obtained by Fox News Digital. Republicans have unleashed a tidal wave of scrutiny on the previous Democrat White House as new reports – as well as old concerns previously dismissed by mainstream media – surface about Biden's mental state while in office and what lengths those closest to him took to allegedly hide it from others. Carter's text calls to investigate former Vice President Kamala Harris and former first lady Jill Biden as well as whoever took part in keeping the audio tapes of Special Counsel Robert Hur's interview with Biden from the public. The select committee would also focus on whether Biden allies "concealed" his prostate cancer diagnosis before it was announced publicly last week. Biden's spokesperson denied prior knowledge of the diagnosis in a statement to the New York Times. The resolution also specifically called for a probe into the use of the autopen in Biden's White House to sign meaningful legislation. "This is potentially the biggest political scandal of our lifetime, and the American people deserve to know the truth about who was really running the White House during Biden's tenure as president," Carter told Fox News Digital of his legislation. "From using the autopen to pardon his own family members to likely concealing a cancer diagnosis, our government must restore trust with the public by fully investigating the former administration's lies and getting to the bottom of one of the most consequential coverups in history." Carter, who is currently running for Senate in Georgia, was among several Republicans who demanded Biden take a cognitive test last year. "The American people can no longer be left to wonder about their safety and security because of the President's deteriorating mental state," Carter wrote in a June 2024 letter to the White House. His new resolution comes on the heels of House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., opening his own investigation into revelations surrounding Biden's cognitive decline. Comer spent much of the last Congress investigating whether Biden and his family unjustly profited from foreign cash. The House Oversight chair sent letters to former senior White House aides, including Biden's doctor, Kevin O'Connor, announcing a probe into "the role of former senior Biden White House officials in possibly usurping authority from former President Joe Biden and the ramifications of a White House staff intent on hiding his rapidly worsening mental and physical faculties." Meanwhile, first-term Rep. Jimmy Patronis, R-Fla., called for a similar select committee on Wednesday.

U.S. Battery Production Set To Decline 75% Under Trump's ‘Big Bill'
Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed what's been dubbed the 'big, beautiful bill', with the legislation designed to leverage deep cuts to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) credits to pay for tax cuts, immigration enforcement and extra spending on defense. The contentious bill is now headed for the Senate, where it faces its final test, with all Democrats but only a handful of GOP lawmakers critical of the huge increase it will bring to the national debt. According to a recent analysis by the International Council on Clean Transportation, the bill, coupled with cuts to other climate policies, could slash U.S. battery production by ~75% by 2030 to 250 GWh from the previously projected 1,050 gigawatt-hours, and EV sales by 40%. According to the report, doing away with the IRA would eliminate 130,000 potential jobs in the EV sector by 2030, with the majority in battery manufacturing. Following the passing of the IRA in 2022, companies have announced a total of 128 U.S. facilities for battery manufacturing, with more than half yet to begin construction. Red and purple states including Texas, Michigan, Nevada, Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia, would be the most adversely impacted if the bill were to become law. Under normal circumstances, this fact alone would be enough to galvanize GOP lawmakers in those states to oppose the bill; however, just two Republican House reps joined the Democrats in voting against the bill, portending a similar fate for the bill in the Senate. Interestingly, even Rep. Buddy Carter of Georgia, home to Hyundai's new $5.5B EV and battery manufacturing plant, threw his weight behind the bill, calling it 'fantastic.' According to estimates by the experts, the project will create $4-5 billion in fresh investments in Bartow County as well as 3,500 new jobs. Over the past five years, EV-related projects in Georgia have created ~$17 billion in investments and more than 22,800 new jobs. Similarly, Rep. Mark Amodei (R-NV) did a 180 and supported the bill, having previously said that he will vote to preserve 45X and 30D tax credits. Overall, virtually all of the 21 GOP House representatives who previously defended clean energy tax credits under the IRA voted for the bill. Source: CNBC Meanwhile, the pivotal solar sector would face a massive setback under Trump's bill. According to a study by the Rhodium Group and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the solar sector has recorded more than $160B in large solar and battery storage projects since the IRA was passed three years ago, marking one of the sector's most productive periods in recent times. Solar and battery storage have been the fastest-growing energy source in the U.S., with the pair expected to account for 81% of new power additions to the grid in the current year. The tax bill would kill off two key tax credits that have been responsible for most of that growth. In effect, the bill would terminate both investment and production credits for renewable energy facilities that begin construction 60 days after it becomes law or those that enter service after 2028. Ben Smith, associate director at Rhodium Group, estimates that this could lead to up to a 72% decline in clean energy additions to the grid over the next decade. Further, clean energy projects will be ineligible to claim the tax credits if they source basic materials such as cobalt and lithium for batteries, as well as glass for solar panels, from prohibited foreign entities such as China. According to Guggenheim analyst Joseph Osha, the tax bill will be 'disastrous' for the rooftop solar industry because it will terminate tax credits for companies that lease solar equipment to customers. OSHA estimates that ~70% of the residential solar industry employs lease arrangements. Among the bill's other key highlights are a proposal to cut the Environmental Protection Agency's budget to $4.2B from $9.1B, the EPA's smallest budget in nearly 40 years. The Union of Concerned Scientists has warned that shuttering the EPA's scientific arm would essentially turn the EPA into a purely political agency. If passed, the U.S. will record a large increase in greenhouse gas emissions by more than 1 billion metric tons annually over the next decade and U.S. household energy costs by ~$415 per household per year. The bill will also kill off the budding clean hydrogen, CO2 management, and even the nuclear power sectors. By Alex Kimani for More Top Reads From this article on

GOP Georgia Senate candidate targets vulnerable Jon Ossoff in ad depicting transgender 'fan'
FIRST ON FOX: House Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., is taking aim at Georgia's senior senator in a new ad highlighting the vulnerable Democrat's stance on transgender student athletes. Carter, who is running for Senate, is releasing a 30-second advertisement titled, "Ossoff Fan," which features a purported transgender woman complaining about Carter's own Republican stances. It opens by showing a transgender woman, played by a stubble-chinned biological male wearing a wig and a dress, sitting in a living room beside a dumbbell watching Carter on Fox News. "He's been MAGA from the beginning," the person says on the phone. "He's been loyal to Trump, defended him during impeachment." The person on the other line says, "And Buddy helped Trump at the border with deportations." The transgender person picks up a trophy and says, "And preventing people like me from competing in women's sports. Buddy Carter even believes there's only two genders." "Now Buddy wants to help Trump in the Senate and beat Jon Ossoff," the individual says. "It's just not fair." Meanwhile, the voice on the phone quips, "After all Ossoff has done for us!" The ad ends with the transgender person picking up a sign with pink lettering that says, "Ossoff for Senate," putting on a pair of wedge sandals, and stomping to their car. The short but punchy advertisement signals that Republicans still believe the debate surrounding transgender inclusion is a potent issue for turning out voters in favor of the GOP. It proved to be a key issue in the 2024 general election, with moderate Democrats spending weeks after the fact decrying their own party's intolerance to differing views. Ossoff is a first-term lawmaker who was the first Democrat to win a Senate seat in the Peach State in roughly two decades. Republicans now view Ossoff's seat as one of the most viable flip opportunities in the upcoming 2026 midterm cycle, when the GOP hopes to keep and expand upon its thin majority in the upper chamber. Carter was the first Republican to jump into the contest after Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, who was considered a heavy favorite to run against Ossoff, opted to forgo a Senate bid. Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King is also running in the race as a Republican. Ossoff joined with all other Democratic senators to filibuster the bill from Sens. Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt, both Alabama Republicans, in March, effectively killing the legislation after it advanced out of the House earlier this year. Their bill, called the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, is designed to bar transgender athletes from participating in federally funded school athletics at all levels, from elementary school to college. It would amend Title IX to make it a violation for any school athletic program that receives federal funding to allow a biological male to participate in sports or activities that are meant for women or girls, and defines a person's sex by their reproductive biology and genetics at birth. The measure is similar to an executive order from President Donald Trump in February that argued that the participation of biological men in women's and girls' sports was "demeaning, unfair, and dangerous to women and girls, and denies women and girls the equal opportunity to participate and excel in competitive sports." The Carter campaign's ad is also not the first time in the early days of the looming midterm cycle that the vulnerable senator has been targeted for his vote against the measure. One Nation, a nonprofit advocacy group closely aligned with Senate Republican leadership, ran an ad last month that accused Ossoff of "running point for the radical left" with his vote to block the men in women's sports bill. Fox News Digital reached out to Ossoff's campaign for comment on Carter's ad but did not hear back by press time.
