Police: Outdated CCTV at Dr Mahathir's grandson's home offered little help; nearby footage now under review in RM1.8m burglary
KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 — The police will examine the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from surrounding areas near the residence of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's grandson in Bukit Ledang, here, which was reportedly broken into last Wednesday. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the CCTV system at the residence itself was of limited use as it only retains footage for 24 hours, making it difficult to aid in the ongoing investigation. 'The CCTV system at the house was installed in the 1990s and has limited storage capacity,' he told a press conference today. 'The incident is believed to have occurred more than 24 hours after the police report was made by the owner of the house, which meant the footage had already been overwritten,' he told a press conference here today. According to Mohamed Usuf, the house is an old house that is rarely visited by Dr Mahathir's grandchildren. 'So far, the police have recorded statements from three individuals, namely Dr Mahathir's grandson, a security guard and a maid. The police are also analysing the evidence received, including fingerprints, and this may take some time,' he said. According to reports, the residence belonging to the former Prime Minister's grandson was broken into, resulting in the victim losing RM1.8 million worth of jewellery. It is understood that the incident was discovered by the maid at 3pm last Wednesday after she found the gate at the back of the house had been cut and her employer's room was ransacked. When asked about the case involving singer Shila Amzah, who claimed to have been verbally attacked by another singer, he said the police would record statements from two more witnesses to complete the investigation paper. — Bernama

KL cops: Security guard, housekeeper among those questioned after Dr M's granddaughter lost RM1.8m jewellery in break-in
KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 — Police have recorded the statements from three individuals to assist in the investigation into the break-in at the home of the granddaughter of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Bukit Ledang here on Wednesday (July 23). Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the three individuals included the security guard and housekeeper. 'So far, no arrest has been made and investigations are ongoing,' he said when contacted today. Previously, the media reported that a premises belonging to the granddaughter of the former prime minister was broken into, resulting in her losing jewellery worth RM1.8 million that was kept in a room. It is learnt that the housekeeper discovered the incident at 3 pm on Wednesday, when she found the rear gate cut open and the room ransacked. — Bernama

Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad, who confirmed the investigation, said police were also studying CCTV footage of the victim's residence. Usuf had confirmed yesterday that a home belonging to Mahathir's grandchild had been broken into and jewellery worth RM1.8 million had been stolen. The break-in was discovered by a domestic helper at 3pm after she found that the padlock on the back gate had been cut.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — Police are studying closed circuit television (CCTV) footage to track the suspects involved in the robbery of former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's grandchild's residence in Bukit Ledang here on Wednesday, which resulted in losses of RM1.8 million. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan said they were investigating the case when contacted by Bernama. 'We are looking into it and as of yesterday, we have yet to be able to identify (the suspect). We are also studying CCTV footage of the victim's residence,' he said briefly. He had confirmed yesterday to the media that a residence belonging to the former prime minister's grandchild had been broken into and jewellery worth RM1.8 million had been stolen.
