Motorcycle crash temporarily closes stretch of QEW in Burlington, OPP say
OPP investigating a serious motorcycle crash that temporarily shut down a stretch of the QEW in Burlington on Saturday August 16, 2025 (CP24 photo). Ontario Provincial Police say a serious motorcycle crash temporarily shut down the eastbound lanes of the QEW near Burloak Drive in Burlington on Saturday night. Officers from the Burlington OPP say they were called to the collision just before 10 p.m. One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. All eastbound lanes were closed but have since reopened. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact Burlington OPP or Crime Stoppers.

Limo passengers force suspected impaired driver to pull over after fearing for their safety

(Burlington OPP photo) A limousine chauffeur who allegedly drove his vehicle with 10 passengers inside while under the influence of drugs or alcohol has been arrested and charged with impaired and dangerous driving. The incident happened on July 11 on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Hamilton near Fifty Road. Burlington OPP said they responded to a call in that area just before 11 p.m. In a news release, police said the 10 passengers feared for their safety and one 'forced the driver to pull to the shoulder and took away the keys to the vehicle as they believed that (he) was impaired.' Investigators said the driver of another vehicle had also called in to report the 'erratic driving of the limousine.' Officers at the scene said they arrived to find the limo on the shoulder. They said they spoke with both the passengers and the driver. 'The driver of the limousine was arrested at the scene and taken to the Niagara detachment for breath tests,' the OPP said. 'There was no collision involved and no injuries.' As a result of the investigation, Mathew Owusu-Afriyie, 64, of Toronto, has been charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), and dangerous operation. He has since been released from custody and is set to appear in court on Aug. 22.

The collision occurred before 8 a.m. and involves two tractor-trailers and four vehicles, police said in a post on X . Two people have been transported to hospital with minor injuries, police said. Burlington OPP are on scene and motorists are being advised to avoid the area and plan alternate routes, OPP said.

Crash closes QEW lanes in Stoney Creek
QEW lanes in Stoney Creek reopened Sunday evening following a collision. The crash close Toronto-bound lanes before Fruitland Road, provincial police said in a 5:12 p.m. post on social media. The lanes had reopened by 6:30 p.m. Burlington OPP are on scene, and emergency services have been dispatched, the initial post read. 'Please avoid the area and plan alternate routes,' the post reads.
