Anne Burrell's devastated fans slam 'embarrassing' tribute on Worst Cooks in America after chef's shock death
The Food Network's tribute to the late Anne Burrell has been branded an 'embarrassment' and a 'slap in the face' by outraged fans. Burrell died by suicide at the age of 55 on June 17, and on July 27 the channel honored her during the premiere of her final season as a mentor in Worst Cooks in America: Talented and Terrible. At the end of the episode, a tribute message read: 'In Memoriam, Anne Burrell, 1969-2025.' 'If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available,' another note read. 'Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or chat at Burrell's furious fans were disappointed by the 'five second' tribute due to it airing at 10pm and questioned why it could not have been scheduled for earlier in the day. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one furiously penned: 'Chef Burrell deserves more than a tribute beginning at 10pm. Surely you can shelve the endless hours of Triple D and Triple G that clog up your lineup for a more comprehensive tribute.' Another scorned: 'At 10pm when no one is really watching. Great idea!' 'Wow a single day starting at 10pm? Complete disrespect,' slammed a third. Another wrote: '10pm? Why not earlier in the day? Didn't she start with Batali and Iron Chef? You could run Secrets of a Restaurant Chef most of the day. That was a great show.' 'Whoever came up with the 10pm timeslot should be fired,' quipped a fifth. 'What an embarrassment and slap in the face.' A sixth posted: 'Just watched Worst Cooks in America and it was kinda weird they had a five-second tribute to Anne Burrell at the end. I had expected they would open the show with some acknowledgment that she had died.' 'A little bittersweet watching this knowing it's Anne's last season but a little shocked they had nothing at the beginning of the episode mentioning her passing or dedicating the season to her?' added a seventh. Last month, Burrell, who hosted Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and co-hosted Worst Cooks in America, was found dead inside her Brooklyn apartment. According to the New York City medical examiner's office, her cause of death was listed as 'acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.' Diphenhydramine and cetirizine are both antihistamines, ethanol is a type of alcohol, and amphetamine is a stimulant often prescribed for ADHD. Burrell's furious fans were disappointed by the tribute due to it airing at 10pm and questioned why it could not have been scheduled for earlier in the day At the time, a Food Network spokesperson said: 'Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. 'Our thoughts are with Anne's family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.' Television personality Burrell had taken a break from her show Worst Cooks In America for season 28 before her death, a decision that baffled many fans. However, speaking to Tori Spelling, Burrell explained: 'I can cook, yes, I can do TV, but also, what else? I've got more to do in my life, I feel like.' She also admitted that she was just 'dipping my toe' when it came to the pivot to acting. Burrell added: 'I feel very excited about it. I've got a few other things that I'm working on as well, which I'm not quite ready to share yet. Hopefully, exciting [are] things coming.'

Food Network to pay ‘tribute' to Anne Burrell on new season of ‘Worst Cooks': When to watch
Food Network is planning to honor the memory of late chef and TV personality Anne Burrell with 'tribute[s] to Anne each week' on the new season of 'Worst Cooks in America,' the network confirmed to People. A representative for Food Network was not immediately available to comment on what the tributes would entail. Burrell had starred on the reality cooking show since its debut in 2010, serving as a mentor to some of the 'worst cooks' each season. The 29th season of the show, subtitled 'Talented and Terrible,' was filmed before Burell's death on June 17. The debut episode of the new season airs July 28 at 9 p.m. EDT on Food Network. Food Network and parent company Warner Bros. Discovery had previously announced plans to highlight programming featuring Burrell, first during a special programming block that aired about a week after her death. 'Anne Burrell was a one-of-a-kind talent whose loss is being deeply felt by family, friends and fans,' Betsy Ayala, the head of content (food) at Warner Bros. Discovery, said in a statement shared in a press release last month. 'With these special programming events, we hope to honor Anne and celebrate her impact on Food Network and beyond, and to offer fans a way to remember her passion and culinary prowess that ran through everything she did,' Ayala continued. Burrell, 55, was pronounced dead after she was found unresponsive in her New York home in June. Last week, the medical examiner's office in NYC determined Burrell's cause of death to be 'acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.' Her manner of death was listed as suicide. The late chef was well-known for her appearances on multiple Food Network shows. She grew up in upstate New York and attended Canisius College in Buffalo, earning a degree in English and communications, her Food Network biography reads. She later attended the Culinary Institute of America and the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners. She also worked in some of New York City's top restaurants. 'Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent — teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring,' Food Network wrote of Burrell on the day of her passing. 'Our thoughts are with Anne's family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.' Burrell is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, whom she married in 2021. They share a son, Javier, from Claxton's previous marriage.

‘He can finally tell his story': Prince Harry's sworn enemy Paul Burrell set to pen another memoir about the royal family
Former royal butler Paul Burrell is gearing up to release a bombshell new book two and a half years after he was slammed in Prince Harry's best-selling memoir Spare. Mr Burrell served as Princess Diana's butler and confidante for a decade from 1987 until her death in August 1997, before becoming one of the UK's best known royal commentators. On Monday, it was confirmed his book The Royal Insider – with a picture of himself and Diana on the cover – is due out for release in September. According to the Daily Mail, the monarchy is bracing for more bad press as Mr Burrell vows to 'speak candidly about the tensions that simmered' during his time at the Palace. 'It is only in the wake of the Queen's passing Burrell feels he can finally tell his story in full,' Mr Burrell's publisher Sphere told the outlet. Reportedly, the book will include candid new details about the demise of Diana's marriage to King Charles, as well as the King's relationships with both of his sons. The new memoir will mark the third book by Mr Burrell detailing his life in the palace with Diana, Charles and Princes William and Harry. William and Harry were reportedly infuriated by the previous two books, and Mr Burrell emerged as something of a villain in Harry's own tell-all book. In his memoir, the Duke of Sussex makes specific references to Mr Burrell but refuses to name the former staffer and calls him only 'mummy's butler'. In one passage, Hary fumed that Mr Burrell 'made his blood boil'. 'Mummy's former butler had penned a tell-all which actually told nothing,' he wrote. 'It was merely one man's self-justifying, self-centring version of events. 'My mother once called this butler a dear friend, trusted him implicitly. We did too. Now this. 'He was milking her disappearance for money. It made my blood boil.' In January, Mr Burrell himself told that he had experienced Harry's 'petulant behaviour' firsthand after Vanity Fair wrote an expose about the Sussexes. 'I know from firsthand experience how difficult Harry can be,' he said. 'I know how petulant he can be and how spoiled he is, because I've experienced that myself. 'He's always lived in a bubble.'
