'Sitaare Zameen Par' censorship, PM Narendra Modi's quote mandated by CBFC after opening disclaimer

CBFC Demands Edits, Aamir Khan Pushes Back Now, Bollywood Hungama reports that the film's release, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, faced uncertainty when the Censor Board demanded certain edits, which Aamir Khan refused to accept. The Revising Committee instructed the filmmakers to change the phrases "Michael Jackson" to "Lovebirds" and "Business Woman" to "Business Person." Revising Committee Reviews Film The actor was reportedly dissatisfied with the CBFC Examining Committee's suggested edits, prompting the Revising Committee, led by theatre expert and scholar Waman Kendre, to review the film recently. Visual Removal and Certification The Revising Committee requested the removal of a visual featuring the word 'kamal'. Once these edits were completed, the CBFC issued a U/A 13+ certificate for 'Sitaare Zameen Par'. Strong Advance Booking Figures 'Sitaare Zameen Par' has already earned Rs 1.55 crore from advance bookings excluding block seats all India. Trade website Sacnilk reveals that more than 39,000 tickets have been sold for the film's opening day. Film Release and Background Directed by RS Prasanna , the film is set to release this Friday. As per a report by Bollywood Hungama, the Revising Committee made several suggestions after viewing the film. This included adding a quote by Prime Minister Modi after the disclaimer, and changes to specific references and visuals in the film. Dialogue and visual adjustments implemented According to the same report, the Revising Committee recommended the replacement of the term 'Michael Jackson' with 'Lovebirds' and 'Business Woman' with 'Business Person.' In addition, the filmmakers were asked to remove a particular visual that featured the word 'kamal.' These changes were implemented, following which the CBFC granted the final clearance. The film is produced by Aamir Khan Productions and directed by RS Prasanna. With the certificate now in place, the film is scheduled for theatrical release on Friday, June 20. Box office and ticket sales ahead of release Despite the earlier uncertainty over certification, Sitaare Zameen Par has generated strong interest among moviegoers. According to data from trade website Sacnilk, the film has already recorded advance bookings worth ₹1.03 crore across India, excluding block seats. It has sold over 39,000 tickets for its opening day. Also featuring Genelia Deshmukh, Sitaare Zameen Par is described as the spiritual successor to the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, which marked Aamir Khan's debut as a revisions suggested by the CBFC, Sitaare Zameen Par is now set for release with all changes made and strong advance sales.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the release of the film -- backed by the actor's Aamir Khan Productions -- was in limbo after the Censor Board suggested a few cuts in the movie, something that was unacceptable to Aamir Khan. The superstar was reportedly not satisfied with the changes asked by the CBFC's Examining Committee, following which the Revising Committee, headed by theatre veteran and academic Waman Kendre, watched the film recently. According to this report by Bollywood Hungama, the Revising Committee also asked the makers to replace the terms - 'Michael Jackson' with 'Lovebirds' and 'Business Woman' with 'Business Person'.
