When power meets play: Where Trump supporters go to get a drink

When you work hard (?), you gotta play harder! Trump supporters – AKA – MAGA shouters, know the drill well. When the day job ends, they regroup and get ready for a huddle! And what can be a better place for a group huddle than a bar around the block? Hence, the rise of Butterworth's! Going by the name, it'd be a common mistake to assume that this particular establishment serves Butterbeer, a non-alcoholic drink popular in the Harry Potter universe. However, that hasn't come in the way of Butterworth's rising popularity. But what does Butterworth's offer that makes it a go-to hideaway of Trump supporters and MAGA elites? Read on to find out. In the heart of Washington, D.C., just two blocks from Capitol Hill, lies a bistro that has swiftly become the epicenter of MAGA social life: Butterworth's. Aesthetically, it might be a French-style café and bar, but at the core – Butterworth's 'claim to fame' has got to do with its very American attitude. Since its opening in October 2024, this bar has transformed from a quaint neighborhood spot into a power hub for Trump supporters, political influencers, and media personalities. The birth of Butterworth's: Butterworth's, named after its Australian-born majority investor Alex Butterworth, boasts an ambiance that melds Victorian charm with European café sophistication. The interior features plush seating, antique chandeliers, and a curated selection of art, including a nod to bullfighting culture—a symbol of risk and reward. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Eat 1 Teaspoon Every Night, See What Happens A Week Later [Video] getfittoday Undo As per Raheem Kassam, a former Breitbart editor and co-owner, who told EL PAÍS, Butterworth's is a tribute to traditions and a haven for the 'weirdos and freaks' of the MAGA movement. Over time, the establishment has become a favored spot for MAGA supporters and political figures. During inauguration weekend, notable attendees included Steve Bannon, Kash Patel, and Elon Musk. The restaurant's private rooms and curated atmosphere cater to high-profile gatherings, making it a central location for political discussions and celebrations. Beyond just a bar: The influence of Butterworth's extends beyond its walls. Butterworth's has hosted events celebrating political victories and ideological shifts. In fact, very recently, after the very public break-up between President Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk, the establishment became the site of a celebration among Trump supporters, marking what many saw as the end of Musk's influence in Trump's Washington. Moreover, this month, Butterworth's partnered with the Kennedy Center to offer a 10% discount to ticket holders, staff, and performers, symbolizing the growing cultural influence of the MAGA movement in Washington – a collaboration that reflects the ever-growing intertwining of politics and culture in the current administration. How do you enter the eccentric world of Butterworth's? Despite its growing popularity, Butterworth's hasn't resorted to making the establishment ultra-exclusive – barring the entry of common people. Hence, you do not need any special membership to dine at Butterworth's. However, due to its popularity, especially among political figures and influencers, reservations are highly recommended. But what if you can't make it to Butterworth's? Where else will you find the Trump supporters winding down while socializing and networking? Fortunately, Washington, D.C., a city often associated with political power and influence, also serves as a backdrop for various social scenes, and Butterworth's is only one among many other establishments. Take a look. Harry's Bar at Hotel Harrington Located just five blocks from the White House, Harry's Bar has become a known hangout for Trump supporters and groups like the Proud Boys. The bar offers affordable drinks in a casual setting, making it a popular choice for those seeking a relaxed environment to discuss politics and socialize. During events like the "Million MAGA March," Harry's Bar has attracted large crowds of Trump supporters. Dirty Water (H Street NE) Dirty Water is a rare exception in a predominantly liberal city, openly supporting Trump. The H Street sports bar co-hosted debate and election night watch parties with the Washington, D.C. Young Republicans. The owner of this establishment, Luke Casey, a registered Republican, noted that the bar became a gathering spot for Republicans seeking a place aligned with their views in a city dominated by Democratic establishments. The Capital Grille (Capitol Hill) The Capital Grille is a Capitol Hill steakhouse where Republicans often gather. Politicians like Ted Cruz and Steve Scalise are among the regulars. The establishment is known for its upscale dining experience, making it a preferred spot for conservative gatherings. Its proximity to the legislative heart of the nation makes it a convenient spot for political discussions and casual drinks. #HarryPotterDay: Your fave Harry Potter treats get a desi upgrade

Chocolate barfi frogs-ones that jump when warmed Pumpkin pasties Age-agnostic, playful and celebrated, the Harry Potter series (the literature and feature films) is as much about the magic spells and characters as it is about the foods featured in it. Be it the delish non-alcoholic Butterbeer or Harry's favourite treacle tart, these dishes have their own fan-following. So, what if these popular treats received a desi upgrade? 'Indian HP food would be pure sensory magic' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secure Your Child's Future with Strong English Fluency Planet Spark Learn More Undo Experts say that adding Indian flavours to Potter cuisine would be magical. Says chef Beena Noronha, 'If Hogwarts were set in India, walking into the Great Hall would feel like stepping into a grand Indian wedding — smells of biryani, butter chicken, smoky tikkas, saffron, and ghee would fill the air. Thalis would float to the students, piled high with fragrant curries, chutneys sparkling like potions, and mithai pyramids almost touching the enchanted ceiling.' Adds chef Ishijyot Surri, 'Indian food culture thrives on narrative and sensory experience, which aligns perfectly with the wizarding world and its culinary magic. Spices like star anise, black pepper, mace, saffron and fennel can enhance the magical experience. Indian combinations of flavours that blend sweetness, spice, tang, and floral notes could evoke the enchanting essence of the Harry Potter world.' 'Imagine serving a Sorcerer's Millet Pilaf – it showcases foxtail millet and root veggies in broth, set in a pumpkin or an earthen bowl with edible flowers on top. Gluten-free, light and brimming with plant goodness, it'd be perfect for a modern-day Hogwarts feast,' says Shivani Sharma, chefpreneur and founder of a gourmet brand. Prepare Potter food, but make it Indian 120823767 Butterbeer variants * Masala doodh is associated with warmth, celebrations, and comfort — exactly what Butterbeer is supposed to be. It'll be spiced with cardamom, saffron, and pistachios, sweetened with jaggery * A warm, frothy jaggery-spice brew: Think saffron, cinnamon, cardamom, a hint of ginger, sweetened naturally with jaggery, topped with a cloud of whipped malai. Serve in old school copper mugs, dust with a little edible gold dust * Use a base of spiced masala chai and top it with lightly whipped saffron cream and caramelised jaggery. Jaggery gives a richer flavour, while a splash of coconut milk can add a magical texture. It would resemble the feel of festive chai served in a kulhad, but it'd be frothy and buttery * Saffron Thandai Latte reflects the lavish indulgence of Butterbeer as it is a warm, creamy blend of almonds, saffron, fennel, and rose. The slight kick of Butterbeer is reminiscent in thandai's pepper and cardamom notes * Nut Milk Latte made with almond butter and laced with spice (sweetened with dates or jaggery), foamy with a dollop of coconut cream. Rather than heavy sugar, it'd add warmth from nutmeg, cinnamon, and a hint of pink salt Butterbeer thandai Honeydukes mithai shop Jalebi Wands – crispy spirals of flossed sugar bursting with edible glitter syrup Chocolate Barfi Frogs – ones that jump when warmed Peda Snitches with golden varq wings Gulab jamun firecrackers bursting with paan syrup or Rasgulla Bubbles Bertie Botts Indian edition * The Every Flavour Indian mix: Start with gulkand and take a turn towards saucy with imli. Then you'd have limey and sharp hing followed by some spicy green chilli. Add smoky black cardamom with earthy paan and jaljeera zing with a bitter gourd bite Harry's Treacle Tart * Gur and Coconut Tart: The almond crust would be gluten-free, and it'd cradle a luscious filling of coconut, jaggery and a hint of saffron. The combination of coconut barfi and caramel would bring in soft sizzling warmth Pumpkin Pasties * Mini Gluten Free Pumpkin Filled Empanadas: Made from almond or amaranth flour, the spiced filling would consist of cumin, fennel, green chillies, and a hint of jaggery to balance sweetness. I've lived in Florida for over 25 years. These are the 6 tourist hot spots worth visiting and the 2 you can skip.

As a Florida resident of over 25 years, I know which tourist hot spots are actually worth visiting. I recommend going to St. Petersburg, Dry Tortugas National Park, and the panhandle beaches. However, I'd skip places like International Drive in Orlando and South Beach in Miami. World-famous theme parks, stunning beaches, and natural beauty are just a few of the many reasons tourists flock to Florida every year. After living in the Sunshine State for over 25 years, I've explored just about every major tourist spot there is. In my experience, some absolutely live up to the hype, but others aren't worth your time or money. Here are the six tourist attractions worth visiting and the two you might want to skip on your next trip to Florida. In my opinion, St. Petersburg lives up to the hype. A vibrant city with an artsy, laid-back vibe, St. Petersburg is a cultural hot spot on Florida's Gulf Coast. The downtown area is filled with colorful murals, markets, and great dining options. I recommend visiting the St. Pete Pier for beautiful waterfront views and great restaurants. Plan on arriving in the late afternoon to catch the stunning sunset. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando is truly magical. Whether you're a lifelong fan or new to the magic of the Harry Potter universe, the level of immersion in the Universal Orlando parks is unlike anything else I've ever experienced. Split between Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Florida and Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure, the attractions bring this magical world to life with incredible detail. From sipping Butterbeer to riding Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, there's magic at every turn. The Hogwarts Express connects both lands, making park-to-park tickets a must for the full experience. Dry Tortugas National Park is worth a visit. A hidden gem located about 70 miles west of Key West, Dry Tortugas National Park is one of Florida's most remote and stunning destinations. It's home to Fort Jefferson, a 19th-century coastal fort surrounded by crystal-clear waters that are perfect for snorkeling. The park is only accessible by ferry or seaplane, making it a true off-the-grid getaway. I recommend booking a ride on the Yankee Freedom III ferry or a spot on a seaplane tour well in advance, as space fills up quickly. For a unique, artsy experience, check out Wynwood Walls in Miami. Wynwood Walls in Miami is a vibrant outdoor street-art museum that provides an explosion of color and creativity. Located in Miami's artsy Wynwood neighborhood, the area features massive, changing murals created by artists from around the world. Beyond the walls, you can find art galleries, shops, and some of Miami's trendiest restaurants. I suggest grabbing a drink at Panther Coffee or stopping for dinner at Bakan, known for its unique and authentic Mexican cuisine — some of which feature insects. Visit Everglades National Park for a taste of Florida's wild side. The Everglades are more than just a swamp — they're a massive, incredibly diverse ecosystem home to alligators, manatees, and stunning bird species. I recommend visiting Everglades National Park for an airboat tour. For a quieter experience, you can also get out on a kayak to explore the park up close. The panhandle beaches are absolutely stunning. The Florida panhandle's beaches, including Pensacola, Santa Rosa Beach, and the scenic 30A stretch, have some of the softest, whitest sand I've ever seen. This area is perfect for those looking for a mix of relaxation and outdoor fun. Destin, which is home to clear emerald waters, is one of our family's favorite destinations. I recommend visiting in late spring or early fall to enjoy the warm weather without the summer crowds. However, I recommend skipping International Drive in Orlando. International Drive is a shopping and entertainment area in downtown Orlando. Although it's home to a few decent spots like Icon Park and the Orlando Premium Outlets, a lot of I-Drive feels like a tourist trap. If you're in Orlando, I recommend heading to Disney Springs instead for shopping, dining, and entertainment. You'll get a taste of Disney magic without needing a park ticket. In my opinion, there are better spots in Miami than South Beach. South Beach is an iconic area in Miami, but unless you're there to party, it can be more of a headache than a highlight. In my experience, the food and drinks are pricey, the beaches are crowded, and parking can be difficult. I think there are better beaches and neighborhoods in Miami that offer a more enjoyable experience (especially if you're traveling with family or kids). For example, I recommend checking out Crandon Park Beach for a more peaceful and scenic Miami experience.
