18-year-old dies after being dragged from car following robbery; 3 teens facing charges
Three teenagers have been charged with murder after an 18-year-old was dragged from a vehicle during a robbery. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The two 17-year-olds and 16-year-old were arrested, Toledo police told CBS-affaliate WTOL. According to a police report, Joaquin Simmons, 18, met with the 16-year-old just before 4:15 p.m. on March 29 to sell shoes. Simmons held onto the 16-year-old's vehicle and was dragged several blocks. Simmons was found in the roadway and taken to the hospital, where he died on April 2. Teen sentenced for shooting Ohio State wrestler
A teenager who shot an Ohio State wrestler in 2023 has learned his punishment. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Elijah Lee, 18, was sentenced to at least 10 years in prison for the shooting of Ohio State wrestler Sammy Sasso, according to CBS-affaliate WBNS. He was found in an alley and taken to an area hospital. Lee, who was 16 at the time, was arrested three weeks after the shooting. Sasso went through multiple surgeries, spent 41 days in the hospital, and went through months of physical therapy before he was able to wrestle again. He spoke before Lee's sentencing. 'My last chance to go accomplish this dream of mine since I had when I was a little kid was taken away,' Sasso said. After Lee gets out of prison, he will be under post-release control. 2 men learn punishment for using drones to get drugs, phones in Ohio prisons
Two men accused of running a scheme to get drugs and phones into Ohio prisons have learned their punishment. Cory Sutphin was sentenced to nearly five years in prison, and Charles Gibbs was sentenced to 10 years, according to CBS-affaliate WBNS. News Center 7 previously reported that an investigation was launched by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction in May 2021 when a drone carrying contraband was seen outside the Toledo Correctional Institution. The three used drones to drop drugs, phones, and other contraband onto the grounds of Toledo, Mansfield, Richland, and Ross correctional facilities. A search warrant was executed at Faulkner's home where over $300,000 worth of drugs, weapons, cell phones, and other contraband were found. Faulkner is scheduled to be sentenced on April 29.

High school staff member accused of offering student $2,000 to kill her husband
A woman is accused of offering to pay a high school student to kill her husband last month. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Stephanie Demetrius, 44, was charged with conspiracy in connection to the alleged plot, CBS-affaliate WBNS reported. On March 26, Demetrius approached a student at the Academy for Urban Scholars High School, where she was a staff member, according to court documents. Court records state the student was initially paid $250 as a down payment for the job. Police obtained a phone call between Demetrius and the student. She allegedly told the student her husband worked from home and when her children would be out of the house. Court records state that Demetrius told the student that 'they don't care about her neighbors' when asked if they would hear the gunfire. She is currently being held in James A. Ohio toddler shot, 17-year-old detained
A nearly 2-year-old was hurt after being shot in Akron Wednesday afternoon. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Akron police were called to the 1500 block of Hyde Park Avenue for a shooting, according to CBS-affaliate WOIO. When officers arrived, they found that a nearly 2-year-old boy had been shot in the abdomen. A 17-year-old was detained by police. Police believe both shootings are related. Deputy Chief Michael Miller said preliminary evidence shows the shooting may have been unintentional. Police did not know the condition of the toddler.
