BENGALURU: In two separate operations, sleuths of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) seized banned tobacco and nicotine products being sold illegally in the city. The Women's Protection Wing of the CCB raided a warehouse on Kanakapura Road illegally stocking and selling tobacco, nicotine products and seized goods worth Rs 81.82 lakh. A team of CCB conducted a raid at the warehouse located near Kanakapura Main Road in the Talaghattapura police station limits on May 31. Officers found a large stock of banned tobacco and nicotine products being stock. Two accused were arrested and handed over to Talaghattapura police. The seized goods included various tobacco and chewing products worth Rs 61.8 lakh. In another operation, the Anti-Narcotics Wing of the CCB arrested a shop worker for selling e-cigarettes, hookah flavours, and foreign cigarettes at a shop in 2nd stage, HRBR Layout. CCB sleuths raided the shop and seized 201 e-cigarettes, 297 hookah flavours, and six foreign cigarette packs. The total value of the seized products is estimated at Rs 1.7 lakh. The shop owner is currently absconding, and further investigation are on to nab him.

Mangaluru: The CCB sleuths of Mangaluru City police arrested one more person in connection with the murder of Hindu activist and rowdy-sheeter Suhas Shetty. According to police, the accused is Abdul Razak,59, hailing from Bajpe and currently residing at an apartment in Kenjar. It is alleged that he conspired with the key accused, his son Mohammad Muzammil, and his son-in-law Naushad Vamanjoor alias Chotte Naushad. It is also learnt that the planning of the murder took place at his residence, and that he assisted the accused in evading arrest. The investigation into the murder case is ongoing, and efforts are under way to trace the remaining accused involved in the crime. The victim was hacked to death on May 1, and the police subsequently arrested eight persons in connection with the case. Later, three more were arrested, bringing the total number of arrests to 12.

The Anti Narcotics Wing of the Central Crime Branch recently cracked down on drug peddlers in Bengaluru and seized drugs worth over ₹60 lakh in separate raids. During a raid on an apartment in Bengaluru, the sleuths caught two individuals red-handed and recovered 1.2 kg of marijuana, 220 grams of hydro ganja worth ₹13 lakh from them. According to the officials, the accused are BBA graduates from Kerala working in a private firm in the city. The duo wanted to make quick money and resorted to peddling drugs, police said. The accused confessed that they sourced the drugs from their contact in Kerala and were selling them to their customers. In a separate incident, CCB officials raided a godown in Thalaghattapura on Kanakapura road on Saturday and recovered tobacco and nicotine products, pan masala, and gutka packets worth ₹61.8 lakh. The products were stored without the required permit and were being sold across the city illegally, the officials said. The Banasawadi police recently raided a shop in HRBR Layout and seized items worth ₹70,000, including 201 e-cigarettes, 297 flavoured hukkah products, and foreign brand cigarettes. The shopkeeper is absconding, and efforts are on to track him down, the police said.

Bengaluru: A case has been registered at Govindarajanagar police station against two constables who were selling tickets for IPL cricket matches in black market. A case has been registered against Constable Venkatagiri Gowda, who is on duty at the City Traffic Management Centre, Constable Ravichandra of Halasuru Traffic Station and two private individuals, and the investigation into the ticket selling racket has been intensified. Shankar and Suresh, residents of Sampangirama Nagar, were caught by the police while selling tickets for the match between RCB and KKR at exorbitant prices in Vijayanagar on May 19, 18 and 17. 52 IPL tickets were seized from the accused. When the accused were questioned, constables Ravichandran and Venkatagiri Gowda confessed that they had given them IPL tickets and instructed them to sell them at double the price. In this context, notices were issued to both the constables to appear for questioning. Police said that both of them have been granted anticipatory bail by the court. Accused Suresh and Shankar were selling tickets worth Rs 1,200 in black market for Rs 5,000 and tickets worth Rs 4,290 for Rs 6,500. Preliminary investigation has revealed that they were giving a share of the profit to the constables. Police informed that an investigation is underway to find out from whom the constables were getting such a large number of tickets and giving them to Suresh and Shankar. Recently, the CCB police arrested the accused Vamsi (23), who was selling IPL match tickets in black. The accused, who worked in an IT company in Bellandur, had a good salary. However, he used to buy IPL match tickets in black market. Then he would sell them in black for more than double the price. The CCB police arrested the accused who was trying to sell tickets for the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore V/s Kolkata Knight Riders scheduled to be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 17. In addition, more than ten tickets were seized from him. A case has been registered in this regard at the Bellandur police station and an investigation is underway. Royal Challengers Bangalore have qualified for the finals after a thumping 8-wicket win over Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 match held in Mohali.

Bengaluru police arrested 31 individuals during a raid at a birthday party held early Sunday morning near Kannamangala Gate, where narcotic substances were found to have been consumed. Among those detained were seven women, including a Chinese national, news agency PTI reported. According to the report, the police conducted the raid around 5 am following a tip-off about an ongoing party at a farmhouse. Officials say nearly all attendees are IT professionals working in the private sector. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East Zone) V J Sajeeth told PTI that the group consisted of both drug users and suppliers. Samples of blood and urine from those arrested have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis. 'Small quantities of cocaine, hashish, and hydro ganja, a narcotic substance, were recovered during the raid.' The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover more details. In February, Bengaluru's Central Crime Branch (CCB) stepped up efforts against drug trafficking, arresting several suspects and recovering substantial amounts of narcotics across different parts of the city. In one operation under the jurisdiction of DJ Halli police station, authorities apprehended a drug peddler from Kerala and seized 523 grams of MDMA crystals. The Bengaluru Police estimated the value of the confiscated drugs at around ₹55 lakh, according to ANI. In a separate raid, the CCB arrested another drug peddler who was employed as a security guard.
