Picture: Sydney Seshibedi/Gallo Images A total of five uncapped players have been included in the 16-man Proteas squad for a two-match Test series against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo starting later this month. Among the new faces are Titans batting duo Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Lesego Senokwane, both of whom have received their maiden call-ups to the national setup. They are joined in the squad by another first-timer, Lions fast bowler Codi Yusuf. At just 19, Pretorius enjoyed a breakout season in the CSA 4-Day Series. He struck three hundreds in five first-class games at an impressive average of 72.66, including a crucial 114 in the final that helped secure a hard-fought draw for the Titans against the Lions. Senokwane also impressed with the bat, amassing 559 runs with two centuries to his name. Both players also recently made their South Africa A debuts against West Indies A. Yusuf, meanwhile, has been a standout performer for the Lions. The right-arm seamer claimed 23 wickets at an average of 22.39, playing a pivotal role in guiding his side to a second successive appearance in the 4-Day Series final. Players rewarded for domestic form The other uncapped players in the squad are Titans batter Dewald Brevis, the second-highest run-scorer in the domestic first-class competition this past season, and Dolphins off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen, though both have previously toured with the senior side. Earlier this week, Subrayen's form was on full display in SA 'A's four-day win over West Indies A, where he delivered with both bat and ball, scoring an unbeaten half-century and picking up five wickets in the West Indies team's second innings. The squad also sees the recall of Lions batter Zubayr Hamza, marking his return since his last appearance against New Zealand in February last year. Senior players rested Several players – Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs – have been rested for the series. Fast bowling trio Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee and Lizaad Williams, who have had recent injury struggles, were not considered for selection. In their absence, coach Shukri Conrad was pleased to be able to give opportunities to some younger players. 'This tour provides the ideal platform to expose them to the demands of Test cricket and see how they respond,' Conrad said. 'It's also our first tour to Zimbabwe since 2014, so we're really looking forward to heading over there later this month.' Pretorius, Senokwane, Yusuf earn maiden Test call-ups

Both players also recently made their South Africa A (SA 'A') debuts against West Indies A. At just 19, Pretorius enjoyed a breakout season in the CSA 4-Day Series. He struck three hundreds in five first-class games at an impressive average of 72.66, including a crucial 114 in the final that helped secure a hard-fought draw for the Titans against the Lions. They are joined in the squad by another first-timer DP World Lions fast bowler Codi Yusuf. Test captain Temba Bavuma will lead the group that includes five uncapped players. Among the new faces are Momentum Multiply Titans batting duo Lhuan-dré Pretorius and Lesego Senokwane, both of whom have received their maiden call-ups to the national setup. Proteas Men's head coach Shukri Conrad has named a 16-player squad for the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe, set to take place at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo from 28 June - 10 July. Yusuf, meanwhile, has been a standout performer for the Lions. The right-arm seamer claimed 23 wickets at an average of 22.39, playing a pivotal role in guiding his side to a second successive appearance in the 4-Day Series final. The other uncapped players in the list are Titans batter Dewald Brevis, the second-highest run-scorer in the domestic first-class competition this past season, and Hollywoodbets Dolphins off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen, though both have previously toured with the senior side. Earlier this week, Subrayen's form was on full display in SA 'A's four-day win over West Indies A, where he delivered with both bat and ball, scoring an unbeaten half-century and picking up a fivefer. The squad also sees the recall of Lions batter Zubayr Hamza, marking his return since his last appearance against New Zealand in February last year. Several players - Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs - have been rested for the series. 'We've opted to rest some players to manage their workload ahead of a busy season,' said Conrad. 'We've been closely monitoring performances in domestic cricket, and it's great to see players like Lhuan-dré, Lesego, and Codi breaking through. 'Dewald deserves a lot of credit for how he has progressed over the past 12 months,' added Conrad. 'He's shown real growth and maturity in the longer format, and it's encouraging to see him evolving into a more complete cricketer. 'Prenelan has earned his spot through consistent performances and offers us a lot with his all-round skills. 'This tour provides the ideal platform to expose them to the demands of Test cricket and see how they respond. It's also our first tour to Zimbabwe since 2014, so we're really looking forward to heading over there later this month.' Fast bowling trio Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee and Lizaad Williams were not considered for selection. 'Nandre has been given the all-clear by the medical team to play T20s. The plan is to ease him back into the game, starting with the shortest format, and then slowly work him up to the longer formats. We'll be keeping a close eye on how he handles the workload as he builds toward playing Test cricket again,' said Conrad. 'With Gerald, it's part of a bigger plan to help him better handle the physical demands of red-ball cricket. The idea is to give him the best chance to avoid a recurrence of the injuries that have kept him out of Test cricket since the tour against Sri Lanka. 'His recent performances in T20s have been really encouraging, but the focus is on his long-term growth and ensuring he stays fit across all formats. 'Lizaad is progressing well and is currently in the final phase of his rehabilitation from his knee surgery,' concluded Conrad. The squad will depart for Bulawayo on 24 June from OR Tambo International Airport. Fortuin feels Lions have the winning secret to claim another 4-Day Series title at the Bullring

Bjorn Fortuin and his Lions teammates will be hoping to claim a successive CSA 4-Day Series trophy when they host the Titans at the Wanderers this week. Picture: BackpagePix Lions' stalwart Bjorn Fortuin believes home advantage will play a critical role in the Cricket SA 4-Day Series final against the Titans at the Wanderers later this week. The defending champions topped the table after the group stages with 115.4 points and are currently unbeaten at the Bullring after winning all three home matches this season. The allrounder believes the Lions, who also beat Western Province in a thrilling final at the same venue last season, believes their local knowledge will be beneficial once again. 'I do not think there are any secrets; it is just that at the Wanderers things tend to happen very quickly, and it has also taken us a few seasons to sort of figure it out and we play accordingly,' Fortuin said. 'We have seen other teams come here and sort of try to force things from day one, and it is not the way to go about things at the Wanderers, because on days two and three, things quicken up in terms of picking wickets and scoring runs. 'That sort of formula has worked for us over the past few seasons. Assessing on day one and then stamping our authority on days two and three, and that is where we have been good at, and hopefully we can carry on doing that.'

Remember the name: Lhuan-dre Pretorius saves Titans with another ton

Lhuan-dre Pretorius strucj a match-saving century for the Titans in the CSA Four-Day Series final against the Lions at the Wanderers on Monday. Picture: BackpagePix Lhuan-dre Pretorius' reputation was elevated even further on Monday, after the teenage star struck a match-saving century to help the Titans share the CSA 4-Day Series with the Lions at the Wanderers. Batting resiliently for over five hours, Pretorius notched his third century of the season, scoring a pivotal 114 runs that anchored his side to safety and salvaged what seemed to be an impending defeat. The 19-year-old showed an impressive range of skills that defied the early perceptions of him as merely a white-ball player, which was on full-colour HD display in the Betway SA20 earlier this year. The final day had its fair share of drama and high emotions. The intensity peaked after an on-field altercation between Dewald Brevis and Bjorn Fortuin, stirring the Lions' hopes for a victory on Sunday. However, when play resumed on Monday, the initial fervour seemed to wane, with both sides exhibiting a more subdued demeanour. Gone was the hostility from the previous day, and as the match progressed, it became clear that the Lions were unable to reproduce the consistency and pressure they had managed earlier.
