Protest march in city against ‘bulldozer action', demands rehabilitation of displaced families
1 2 Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Hundreds of displaced residents on Friday afternoon took out a protest march, shouting slogans against the Chhatrapati Municipal Corporation (CSMC) and its commissioner. The protestors, while terming the ongoing demolition drive by the CSMC as "bulldozer-shahi", said that they would not tolerate the "bulldozer rule" being imposed on commoners. The demonstration, by various organisations, started from Kranti Chowk and culminated at the divisional commissioner's office. Deepak Nikhalje, who was among the key protesters, alleged that under the pretext of removing encroachments, houses of the poor were being demolished without any prior notice, leaving families homeless during the monsoon. The march passed through Sillekhana, Paithan Gate, Gulmandi, and City Chowk before reaching the commissionerate. A delegation met divisional commissioner Jitendra Papalakar and submitted a memorandum of demands. The key demands included cancellation of the proposed road from Champa Chowk to Jalna Road passing through a residential area; rehabilitation and adequate compensation to property owners before demolition of old settlements; relocation of the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar from Harsul to the main square; legal action against officials who damaged the replica of the University Renaming Movement Memorial at Sanjaynagar-Mukundwadi; reconstruction of the Osmanpura arch at an adjacent location; immediate withdrawal of the July 17 circular issued by the district collector for clearing encroachments on gairan (common) land; transfer of cultivation rights of gairan land to current tillers; and issue of 'PR' cards to all slum dwellers to secure their settlements. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Horse Gives Birth To Foal - The Vet Sees It Articles Vally Undo The protesters alleged that thousands were rendered homeless during the rain due to arbitrary demolitions and demanded justice for the affected families. Another activist, Arvind Kamble, said that in the case of Harsul, road widening work was carried out a few months ago, and the civic body has once again come for demolishing the properties under the same pretext of road widening. The activists blamed municipal commissioner G Shreekanth for carrying out the demolition drive without compensating the rightful landowners. Mission Meow: Aiming to neuter 10,000 stray male cats in Melaka by Year-End
MELAKA: A major neutering campaign has been launched in the state with the aim of sterilising 10,000 male cats by the end of the year to control the stray population and enhance public hygiene. The initiative, titled "Mission Meow", was organised by Cat Supermarket in collaboration with its veterinary arm, Cat Specialist Medical Centre (CSMC). Cat Supermarket managing director Datuk Chew Chert Fong said the campaign has been welcomed as a much-needed intervention. "This initiative is about collective responsibility by working with local councils and welfare groups to create lasting change for both public health and animal wellbeing,' he said on Thursday (July 10). Chew said that to encourage participation, a RM50 neutering voucher, redeemable at CS Vet Medical Centre here, was distributed. He said the subsidy was introduced to help ease financial barriers for cat owners and rescuers. 'Our goal is to make neutering services more accessible while addressing the root causes of overpopulation. "The campaign is expected to conclude by December 2025," he added.

Anti-encroachment drive removes illegal structures on way to Ellora Caves
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A total of 585 encroachments along a stretch of road from Padegaon to Mitmita leading to UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ellora Caves were removed by the local civic body on Thursday. The day-long action saw many multi-storied commercial buildings that came up illegally being erased by civic squads. As many as 350 civic employees and staffers were roped in for the drive carried out in the presence of 250 policemen. "Notices were served well in advance to locals who encroached upon land in Padegaon and Mitmita areas. The drive was carried out after necessary marking. Organised efforts are being made so that fresh encroachments do not come up in areas freed from illegal structures," additional municipal commissioner, Santosh Wahule, who heads the anti-encroachment cell of CSMC, said. In the recent past, the local civic body had cleared illegal structures on major roads, including Beed Bypass, Jalna Road, and Paithan Road. Meanwhile, local residents have demanded construction of a service road on Beed Bypass at the earliest to avoid fresh encroachments. "The Beed Bypass has emerged as the fastest developing commercial and residential area in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Chances are high that fresh encroachments will usurp the space meant for service road," said Babasaheb Shelar, a resident of Satara.

Fatal gate collapse: Work begins to alter Siddharth Garden entrance
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) has begun modifying the entrance gate of Siddharth Garden and Zoo to enhance safety, following a tragic incident on June 11 where two women visitors died after a portion of the gate collapsed on them. On Friday, the CSMC started demolishing the arch-shaped, dome-like structure of the gate, which was involved in the fatal accident. Civic officials said that a structural audit deemed the existing entrance gate hazardous, necessitating its modification to ensure public safety. The entrance gate, along with adjacent shops and other facilities, was completed on June 23, 2022, under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract. The tragic incident, where the gate collapsed amid heavy winds, resulted in the immediate deaths of two women visitors. In response to the accident, an offence for culpable homicide and other charges have been registered against five individuals associated with Prakash Developers — the private firm involved in the gate's construction. Civic activist Rajendra Datey Patil, who has demanded a high-level inquiry into the accident, said expenses towards modification of the entrance gate of the public garden should be recovered from the private firm. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Nagelpilz-Clip bricht Verkaufsrekorde - funktioniert er wirklich? The necessary modification must be made by invoking the clause of the defect liability period mentioned in the BOT contract," he said. Patil also reiterated the demand for action against the civic officials for the June 11 incident. "I had written a letter to the Chief Minister's office (CMO) demanding action against the civic officials who overlooked their duty. The civic authorities should have prevailed upon the private contractor to ensure safety of the entrance gate," he added.
