Randa Shoukry's Debut ‘Hayaty Mestaneyany' is a Leap of Faith
Inspired by tragic personal events, Egyptian artist Randa Shoukry turned her grief and burnout into a feel-good indie-rock tune. Jul 21, 2025 Cairo-based rising artist Randa Shoukry has recently dropped her debut single 'Hayaty Mestaneyany', a deceptively upbeat, guitar-laced anthem born out of grief, burnout and one very impulsive quit notice. Following a two-back-to-back family tragedies and a post-grad spiral, Shoukry found herself fumbling into adulthood at full speed, physically drained and stuck in a job that muted her creative voice. The chorus of 'Hayaty Mestaneyany' came to her fully formed in the middle of a meltdown, and instead of brushing it off, she trusted her gut and took a leap of faith to solely focus on her music career. Rooted in Egyptian Arabic lyricism and Shoukry's inner monologue, the track balances playful lyrical sarcasm with lush 80s-leaning production (courtesy of Hybrid Monkey) and shimmering guitar riffs – a compelling paradox to the lyrics' vulnerability and the chaos behind its creation.

V Penthouse by Badie Architects is a Raw Sanctuary
V Penthouse by Badie Architects is a Raw Sanctuary Located in the verdant neighbourhood of Maadi, the residence is designed as a deliberate balance between industrial rawness and artisanal precision. The V Penthouse by Cairo-based Badie Architects explores an architecture-first approach to contemporary living that prioritises material honesty and spatial coherence. Located in the verdant neighbourhood of Maadi, the residence is designed as a deliberate balance between industrial rawness and artisanal precision. It unfolds as a controlled study in contrast, where every surface, junction, and finish is calibrated to serve both form and function. At its core, the space is driven by clarity and cohesion. The fireplace acts as an architectural anchor at the heart of the living area, quietly organising the open plan without resorting to visual noise. Around it, the material palette is tightly controlled, privileging continuity. Self-leveling concrete across both floors and walls creates a seamless, monolithic skin that dissolves traditional thresholds and emphasises spatial fluidity. Steel cladding wraps structural volumes adding a sculptural quality, giving weight and permanence to the interior. Polished stainless steel doors and visible ducts double as both functional infrastructure and aesthetic statement, pushing the industrial character forward without overplaying it. To counterbalance these striking materials, raw wood elements are strategically integrated, bringing warmth, texture, and a natural contrast to the overall composition The V Penthouse integrates smart home technology with the same level of precision applied to its architecture. Lighting, climate, security, and entertainment systems are fully automated and controlled through a centralised interface, allowing the space to respond easily to its users. This digital layer is designed to be discreet to support the spatial experience without interrupting it. That balance between form, function, and future-thinking is core to the studio's approach. 'Every design decision within the V Penthouse reflects an uncompromising dedication to material authenticity, spatial clarity, and the future of avant-garde living,' lead architect Mohamed Badie explains. Every furnishing choice reinforces the architectural language beyond being solely ornamental. High-end pieces from Fendi, Minotti, Flos, and Cassina are curated to match the penthouse's material ethos, without detracting from the spatial narrative. In the bedroom, a full marble bathtub becomes the sculptural focal point, while a handpicked Kahhal Persian rug introduces texture, heritage, and a quiet nod to craftsmanship.

Ahly exclude Wissam Abu Ali from Tunisia camp for disciplinary reasons - Egyptian Football
Egyptian champions Ahly have dropped Palestinian striker Wissam Abu Ali from their pre-season training camp in Tunisia due to disciplinary breaches, the club said on Thursday. The decision was made by sporting director Mohamed Youssef in consultation with Portuguese head coach José Ribeiro, ahead of the team's departure to Tunisia on Friday for a camp scheduled from 18 to 26 July. Youssef said Abu Ali failed to attend scheduled fitness assessments, medical scans, and therapy sessions, and had been absent from training without permission. 'Wissam has an offer from a US club that didn't meet Ahly's terms. Until now, he remains under contract, but he missed training and the club has enforced its internal regulations,' Youssef told Ahly TV. The 26-year-old joined Ahly from Sweden's IK Sirius in January 2024 and is contracted until 2029. During his time with the Cairo-based side, he won two Egyptian Premier League titles, the CAF Champions League, the Egyptian Super Cup, and the Intercontinental Challenge Cup. Abu Ali made headlines at the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this year, scoring a hat-trick against Porto in the final group-stage match. Youssef added that the club is evaluating potential reinforcements in the forward line, but said it was too early to discuss specific options. 'No meetings have been held with Mustafa Mohamed or his representatives,' Youssef said, denying reports linking the Nantes striker to a move back to Egypt. ILMOND Releases stripped down audio-visual for ‘Amana'
ILMOND releases AMANA, a new song accompanied by a black-and-white visual. The artist invites listeners into a minimalist, emotional world built on sound, grain, and intentional silence. Jul 17, 2025 With AMANA, Cairo-based artist ILMOND shares a tightly-wound piece of music and film that blur into a single, restrained gesture. Co-directed with Amr Fayek and edited alongside brollsi, the video draws from grainy textures and long silences to strip the image of anything excess. The track, produced by Omar Taai, Zvla, and Frost, with co-production from Keen and ILMOND, builds slowly, almost hesitantly, around sparse instrumentation and echo. Together, the audio and visual elements are felt more than heard.
