#SHOWBIZ: Cakra Khan's 'farewell' night stirs hearts

THE Plenary Hall at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre has hosted many great performances, but it recently became the setting for something far more personal. Indonesia's celebrated vocalist Cakra Khan took to the stage for what he called his final solo concert in Malaysia — before he takes an indefinite break, delivering a memorable night. Titled the 'Cakra Khan Divine Concert', it was more than just a performance with a series of concert was a narrative of loss, acceptance, hope and love — wrapped in music, lit with theatrical magic and charged with genuine emotion. Devoted fans, some travelling from the country's far corners, gathered for the special send-off. Around 8:30pm, the hall went dark, the murmurs faded and the first haunting chords of 'Setelah Kau Tiada' filled the air. When the stage was lit up, out came Cakra, dressed in an understated ensemble, eyes closed as if in prayer. From the very first note, his textured, raspy voice took over the room. The atmosphere was almost cinematic — the hall's perfect acoustics amplifying every nuance, lights subtly shifting in colour and intensity to mirror the song's emotional arc. In those first minutes, Cakra set the tone for the night: unfiltered sincerity. Emotion-filled journey Without giving the audience a chance to catch their breath, he transitioned into 'Persinggahanmu' , presented in a new arrangement that added dramatic crescendos and tender pauses. The crowd responded with cheers mid-performance. Then came 'Mencari Cinta Sejati', a song that seemed to pause time. Its lyrics of longing and endless pursuit resonated, drawing nods and even tears from among the audience. When 'Kau Memilih Dia' began, the hall's energy shifted again, the kind of collective melancholy where everyone seemed to have their own memory attached to the lyrics. Cakra's delivery was almost conversational, as if he were speaking directly to each listener about betrayal, choice and acceptance. This emotional tide continued with 'Salah Tapi Baik', an anthem for flawed love that refuses to be forgotten. The crowd sang along to the chorus, their voices merging with his in a bittersweet harmony. Stage-igniting collaborations The evening's collaborations was heavenly as Trio XL joined him for 'Rindu Tak Bersuara'. Their harmonies weaving around his lead vocals created a textured tapestry of sound that felt both intimate and expansive. Legendary Titi DJ and the musician Faizal Lubis brought a burst of international flair with 'Layar' and 'Sang Dewi', both songs executed with precision and passion, earning thunderous applause. Malaysian favourite Marsha Milan united the entire hall with 'Seluruh Cinta', prompting a massive sing-along that became one of the night's most uplifting moments. Her solo rendition of 'Hening Rindu' was equally powerful, earning her a standing ovation. Ade Govinda accompanied Cakra when he delivered a spirited segment with 'Masing-Masing', 'Hal Hebat', and 'Kamu Adalah', songs that radiated optimism and warmth while showcasing an easy chemistry between them. Memorable As the concert moved towards its final act, Cakra chose to strip back the arrangements, letting the words and emotions take centre stage. 'Kekasih Bayangan' and 'Harus Terpisah' carried the weight of farewell. The hall fell into near-complete silence, save for the sound of quiet sniffles. Then, he addressed the audience: "I don't know when I'll be back to do a concert like this. But tonight, I want to give my everything to all of you." It was an unscripted moment, heavy with sincerity and mutual gratitude between artiste and audience. Just when it seemed the night had reached its close, Cakra returned for an encore. He began with Kris Dayanti's 'Mencintaimu', sung with tenderness that made it feel like both a goodbye and a promise. Then came a medley of 'Treasure', 'Never Felt So Good' and 'September' that lifted the crowd to their feet. For the final number, he chose Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You', a song so iconic that few have dared to attempt it. Cakra's rendition was infused it with his own phrasing, vocal grit and emotional shading, transforming it into a personal statement. By the end, it was clear that the evening had been more than just a concert. As the lights came up and people slowly filed out of the hall, there was no rush — only a lingering sense of gratitude for having been part of a once-in-a-lifetime night Arguably, it will be remembered as one of the year's most memorable concerts.

Cakra Khan wows KLCC, announces break

KUALA LUMPUR - The powerful and emotionally charged vocals of Indonesian star Cakra Khan captivated nearly 3,000 fans at his solo Divine Concert-Cakra Khan at the Plenary Hall, KLCC, here on Saturday. Known for his uniquely raspy voice, Cakra - whose real name is Cakra Konta Paryaman, 33, - performed 26 heartfelt songs during the nearly three-hour concert organised by Shiraz Projects. The concert opened at 8.45 pm with a medley of three popular songs: Setelah Kau Tiada, followed by Persinggahan and Mencari Cinta Sejati, before he greeted fans and admitted to being a little nervous about giving his best performance. "Assalamualaikum WBT. How is everyone doing? Praise be to Allah SWT for giving me the opportunity to be here tonight with all of you, who are absolutely amazing. I had nasi lemak earlier, so I can speak a bit of KL Malay now (laughs). Being on this stage is nerve-wracking - I'm afraid I might forget the lyrics - but I'm lucky to have all of you here tonight. Thank you, everyone,' he quipped. Backed by more than 10 musicians, including violin, cello, saxophone, keyboard, bass, guitar, trumpet, and drums, the performance continued with a string of hits from his second album such as Kau Memilih Dia, Salah Tapi Baik, Nanti, Tak Sejalan, Take The Pain, and Cahaya. The powerful and emotionally charged vocals of Indonesian star Cakra Khan captivated nearly 3,000 fans at his solo Divine Concert-Cakra Khan at the Plenary Hall, KLCC on Saturday. - Photo by Bernama Cakra didn't just perform solo - he also featured five guest singers: Trio XL, Titi DJ, Faisal Lubis, Marsha Milan, and Ade Govinda. "I had the honour of being a judge for the One in a Million talent show. I felt lucky to witness so many amazing talents there. I invited Trio XL to join me in performing Rindu Tak Bersuara - they have a solid classical foundation. I've studied classical music for a long time myself, but honestly, I haven't reached that level yet,' said Cakra, who is a fan of Luciano Pavarotti's work. One of the most touching moments came when Cakra dedicated the concert to his late father Hermana, his source of strength and inspiration since he entered the music industry in 2012. Hermana passed away due to a stroke in 2020. "In my village, during wedding celebrations, even outsiders can attend. So my dad would take me on his motorcycle to any wedding that had musical performances, just so I could sing. "Sadly, my late father didn't get the chance to attend my first concert here. Every performance I give today is dedicated to him and everyone who has supported me since the beginning,' said Cakra, who also sang Mencintaimu, originally performed by Kris Dayanti. The atmosphere turned lively when Cakra stepped off the stage and interacted with fans, walking around the hall while singing Treasure, Never Felt So Good, and September. The crowd erupted in cheers when the Pangandaran, West Java-born singer performed Bunyi Gitar, a classic by the legendary Tan Sri P. Ramlee. "I love P. Ramlee's songs and truly idolise him. Hopefully in the future, I'll be able to sing more of his classics,' he said. However, the mood turned solemn when Cakra announced he would be taking a break after this concert to focus on creating new material, following three consecutive years of performing in Malaysia. "Thank you for the incredible support you've given me every time I perform here. Honestly, I've decided to take a break (from concerts) after this. It's been three straight years of concerts in Malaysia,' he said, visibly tearing up. Cakra previously performed at the A Decade Cakra Khan Live In Kuala Lumpur concert in 2023 and returned with a similarly titled concert last year. As a closing number and farewell to his fans, Cakra performed Harus Terpisah - the hit that propelled him to fame in Malaysia - followed by I Will Always Love You, originally by Whitney Houston, delivered with stunning vocals. - BERNAMA

#SHOWBIZ: Cakra Khan promises an unforgettable concert

POPULAR Indonesian singer Cakra Khan is all set to make a grand return to the Malaysian stage next month. And he's pulling out all the stops to deliver a night to remember for his fans. With his signature husky vocals and emotive delivery, the 33-year-old artiste is gearing up for his much-anticipated solo performance, the Cakra Khan Divine Concert. The show is set to take place on Aug 2 at the Plenary Hall in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Speaking at a recent press conference to announce the concert, Cakra playfully expressed his deep love for performing. "If it were entirely up to me, I'd love to sing more than 30 songs during my concert! "As long as the audience is enjoying themselves, I could sing all night." However, despite his enthusiasm, he admitted that some compromises had to be made. "After detailed discussions with the production team and taking into account the time limits, we had to narrow down the song list. "I love being on stage, but we also want the show to be polished and well-paced." Presented by Shiraz Projects, the Kuala Lumpur concert is part of a two-stop showcase. Cakra had previously performed across the Causeway at The Star Theatre in Singapore on July 18. The concert's theme, "Divine", was carefully chosen to represent more than just a musical performance. As explained by Shiraz Projects managing director Shirazdeen Karim, the word "Divine" embodies Cakra Khan's extraordinary journey — from humble beginnings to successfully establishing a solid presence in the Southeast Asian music scene. "This concert comes at a timely moment, as Cakra continues to solidify his status as one of the most unique vocalists in the region," said Shirazdeen. "It's a celebration of his voice, artistry and the emotional depth he brings to every performance." Fans can expect an evocative mix of hits, from timeless favourites like 'Kekasih Bayangan' to fresh new tracks that showcase the evolution of his sound. What's more, Cakra has promised a different setlist for each city, ensuring that fans in Malaysia and Singapore enjoy unique experiences. "There will be some songs I performed in Singapore that I won't sing in KL, and vice versa," he explained. "I'm also including some new songs and reworking the arrangements for older ones. It's about creating something special and unforgettable for each audience." But that's not all, as Cakra won't be taking to the stage alone. Fans are in for a treat, as the concert will also feature special appearances by renowned guest performers, including Marsha Milan, Ade Govinda, Titi DJ, Trio XL and Faizal Lubis. These collaborations are expected to elevate the night's musical atmosphere further, giving fans and music lovers a truly memorable experience. Cakra emphasised that he has personally invested time and energy into every detail of the show, from the lighting to the stage design to the musical arrangements. "This time around, I've been really hands-on with everything. I want the entire experience, visually and sonically, to be satisfying for everyone who comes." As for the final number of songs, he revealed that the concert will feature close to 30 tracks, carefully selected and arranged to deliver both emotional depth and powerful vocals without overwhelming the timeline. "We had to be realistic. Initially, I really did want to perform over 30 songs, but once we broke down the rehearsal schedule and concert duration, we had to cut back a little," he said with a smile. "Still, I'm confident fans will feel the magic we've put into this." With anticipation steadily building, the Cakra Khan Divine Concert promises not only a night of great music but also a celebration of passion, perseverance and the power of a voice that continues to move hearts across generations.

The raspy-voiced singer said all the cats were rescued from the streets and have become part of his daily therapy. - Bernama photo The raspy-voiced singer said all the cats were rescued from the streets and have become part of his daily therapy. "Recently, I rescued a cat with a heart condition that requires constant oxygen. So, I bought an oxygen generator and gas supplies for it. "I make sure each cat receives weekly treatment. All of them have been sterilised and are free to roam around the house," he said at a press conference in conjunction with the Divine Concert - Cakra Khan, here recently. Cakra, who also employs a house helper to assist in caring for the cats, said his love for animals does not depend on their breed or appearance. "I don't care what type they are-as long as they're healthy, that's enough. All my cats are village cats," he said, adding that he hopes to open an animal shelter one day. He believes that every animal that comes into his home is a blessing to be shared. "I always try to do something, even if small, so I can feel useful. I've never been afraid of running out of money to care for them. I believe there will always be a way," said the singer, who also enjoys gardening as a form of self-therapy after long work days. Meanwhile, Cakra will be performing a more intimate-style concert in the Divine Concert - Cakra Khan at the Plenary Hall, KLCC on Aug 2, following a similar concert at The Star Theatre, Singapore on July 18. "In previous concerts, I performed in a more serious format with a full orchestra. This time, I want it to be freer and more playful. I arranged the songs, lighting, and stage myself so the audience can experience something more personal,' he said. He added that the concert will also introduce his second album, titled Divine, which was released last year-over a decade after launching his first album. "My first album came out in 2013. After that, I focused more on singles because the promotional strategy suited me better. But as a singer, I still want to leave behind something lasting, which is why this album means a lot to me. "In this album, I stepped out of my comfort zone and was given the freedom to explore different genres, including pop, ballads, and classical. Some songs are emotional, others are joyful,' said Cakra, who recorded the album in several locations including Bali and Bandung, Indonesia. The concert, organised by Shiraz Projects, will feature guest artistes such as Titi DJ, Ade Govinda, Marsha Milan Londoh, Faizal Lubis, Ernie Zakri, and vocal group Trio XL. "I love creating space for collaborations. For instance, I've never sung a duet with Ernie before, but I know she's extraordinary. I'm also obsessed with classical music, which is why I invited Trio XL-their voices are strong and technically refined. I believe in their vocal abilities and character,' he said. Tickets for the Kuala Lumpur concert are priced between RM255 and RM1,295 and can be purchased at while tickets for the Singapore concert are priced between SG$128 and SG$248 via - BERNAMA

#SHOWBIZ: Animal lover Cakra Khan keeps 30 stray cats as pets

KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian singer Cakra Khan unwinds by gardening and caring for his pets, finding it a refreshing way to clear his mind. "I have 30 cats at home. All of them were strays," said the singer, who spends around IDR20 million (RM5,191) monthly on their welfare. "I don't mind forking out that amount, as I believe part of my 'rezeki' (blessings) is meant for them too." Cakra revealed that one of his latest rescues was a cat with a heart problem. "So, to care for the cat, I bought the necessary equipment, including an oxygen generator," he told reporters at a press conference held here today to announce his upcoming 'Divine Concert – Cakra Khan'. "I do all of this just so I feel that I can be useful to someone." When asked why he doesn't keep purebred cats, the 33-year-old animal lover explained he prefers to adopt ordinary cats rather than buying expensive breeds. "As long as the cats are healthy, that's good enough for me," said Cakra, who has been caring for these cats for the past three years. Once rescued, he ensures they are neutered. While he doesn't require a personal helper, Cakra employs a maid specifically to assist him with his uncaged feline companions. The singer also confessed to being a big fan of a particular curry-flavoured instant noodle from Malaysia. "Each time I come here, I bring home a lot of them because the same instant noodle I can get back home tastes a little different," he explained. "Each member of my entourage helps me carry home about four cartons. Sometimes I do get into trouble at customs," he said with a laugh, adding that another Malaysian favourite is Mee Goreng Mamak. Presented by Shiraz Projects, Cakra Khan is set to perform his 'Divine Concert' at KLCC's Plenary Hall on Aug 2. Before that, the same concert will take place at The Star Theatre in Singapore on July 18.
