St Mirren close to securing Jalmaro Calvin, says boss Stephen Robinson

The Jamaican winger, who plays for the island's Premier League outfit Cavalier, will become the club's seventh signing should the deal go through. St Mirren are closing in on the signing of Jamaican winger Jalmaro Calvin. ‌ The capture of the pacey 22-year-old is expected to be confirmed with securing a work permit thought to be the hold-up. ‌ Calvin, who has represented the Reggae Boyz as well as Antigua and Barbuda on the international stage, will become the club's seventh signing when the deal with Jamaican Premier League outfit Cavalier goes through. ‌ Boss Stephen Robinson is excited to have Calvin on board but wants to temper any expectations about the Jamaican making an instant impact. 'We're just waiting for paperwork now,' said the Northern Irishman. 'It's the usual paperwork. We're just waiting for that to hopefully happen in the next 48 hours. 'But you take nothing for granted in this world until it's done and dusted. But we believe he's a really quick, electric player who needs to get up to the speed of the game and the physicality of the UK game, especially in Scotland.' ‌ Robinson is battling in a small market as he looks to wheel and deal his way through the summer transfer window. He is in the process of trying to replace a string of starters from last season who have all made big moves out of Paisley. The Buddies boss continued: 'I keep saying we've lost nearly 50 per cent of our starting line-up. 'We've lost Zach Hemming, we've lost Ryan [Alebiosu], we've lost Richard [Taylor], we've lost Caloan [Boyd-Munce] and we've lost Toyosi [Olusanya]. ‌ 'And them boys are now on huge money playing in the Championship [whose clubs are] paying six, seven, £8,000 a week. We're not replacing like for like and people have to understand that. 'We're right back at the start of the cycle again with our replacements and it takes time to build up and that's what this football club is.' It is a return to Paisley on Saturday for the Buddies and the fans with League Two Annan Athletic arriving in the hope they can cause a shock. ‌ Saints have drawn with Arbroath (losing 5-3 on penalties) and beaten Forfar Athletic 2-1 at Station Park to top their Premier Sports Cup group. Midfielder Liam Donnelly is the only injury absentee while keeper Ryan Mullen could get the nod after recovering from a bug. Mark O'Hara is back from suspension. Robinson insists this time of the year is the hardest as he is still trying to figure out his strongest team ahead of the league campaign. He said: 'I find it difficult because you're expected to win when you're still experimenting, you're still trying different things. People are still trying to find their form and obviously, people say, are all the rest of the teams. 'But the other teams aren't expected to win. They're not expected to win four or five-nil. So, it's something we have to deal with and have dealt with; and, ultimately, try and get through and then it takes care of itself.'

Ex-OpenAI employee reveals ‘unusual part of the company', says ‘There's a strong bias to…'

Calvin French-Owen , ex-engineer at ChatGPT maker OpenAI has shared a blog post, reflecting on his journey at the company. In the blog post, Calvin shared things he liked and didn't like working at OpenAI. He began his post by praising OpenAI, stating 'how quickly it's grown'. Calvin wrote 'When I joined, the company was a little over 1,000 people. One year later, it is over 3,000 and I was in the top 30% by tenure. Nearly everyone in leadership is doing a drastically different job than they were ~2-3 years ago.' Calvin continues talking about an unusual part of OpenAI which he says is 'that everything, and I mean everything, runs on Slack. There is no email.' He further added 'I maybe received ~10 emails in my entire time there. If you aren't organized, you will find this incredibly distracting. If you curate your channels and notifications, you can make it pretty workable.' In the post, Calvin revealed that OpenAI is 'very meritocratic'. Writing that 'leaders in the company are promoted primarily based upon their ability to have good ideas and then execute upon them. Many leaders who were incredibly competent weren't very good at things like presenting at all-hands or political maneuvering.' He says that this 'matters less at OpenAI then it might at other companies. The best ideas do tend to win'. He also points to a 'strong bias' in the company. Calvin writes 'There's a strong bias to action (you can just do things). It wasn't unusual for similar teams but unrelated teams to converge on various ideas.' Narrating his own experience, Calvin writes 'I started out working on a parallel (but internal) effort similar to ChatGPT Connectors. There must've been ~3-4 different Codex prototypes floating around before we decided to push for a launch. These efforts are usually taken by a small handful of individuals without asking permission.''Teams tend to quickly form around them as they show promise,' he adds. Boots shoppers get 'so many compliments' when wearing £33 perfume worth £94

The Calvin Klein scent is usually sold for £94, but has been reduced in the sale Shoppers are praising an online deal that has slashed the price of a designer perfume typically worth almost £100 to a bargain price. Many customers have loved that it gets "so many compliments" whenever they wear it and say it has an "expensive" scent. The Calvin Klein Euphoria for Women, usually priced at £94 for a 100ml bottle, is now available at Boots for a mere £33 – offering customers a saving of over £60. Boots describes the scent as embodying "sensual femininity". The retailer adds: "Drawing inspiration from the delicate curves of an orchid in bloom, this floral fragrance is a nod to this feminine flower and is housed in a silver metal and purple glass bottle." According to Boots, the fragrance's key note is the "captivating essence of black orchid", complemented by the 'gentle softness' of lotus blossom and violet. These floral notes are blended with 'fruity' layers of pomegranate and persimmon for "a juicy allure". Shoppers get a "velvety richness that lingers on the skin" from the added effect of cream accord and mahogany. For those looking to indulge in a treat or find a thoughtful present, there are plenty of perfume deals currently available. Superdrug is selling Ghost Orb of Night at a reduced price of £36 (down from £44), and The Perfume Shop is offering Gucci Rush for just £34.99, significantly less than the usual £79, reports the Mirror. However, it's the Calvin Klein deal at Boots that has got shoppers buzzing with excitement. One customer said: "Calvin Klein's Euphoria is my favourite perfume. I have never smelt a perfume that smells so amazing and stays put for the day! I can spray loads, and it doesn't smell overpowering. I'd definitely recommend it to any ladies out there looking for a new perfume to try. It's definitely value for money!" Another added: "My fiancé bought this for me, and it's fab. I know perfumes can vary in smell and how long they last from person to person, but I struggle to find a long-lasting fragrance, and this one is great. So many people have complimented me on it!" A third wrote: "This glorious perfume has a long-lasting scent. I am often asked what I am wearing as it is so refreshing and light. It is a fabulous new find for me." Meanwhile, another reviewer described it as an "elegant" bottle perfume that "smells like it should cost much more" and another added: "Perfect for evening wear or cooler weather, it has good lasting power without being overpowering. A modern, feminine scent that gets compliments!" But, not every shopper was impressed with their purchase. One shopper complained: "I am a bit disappointed with the longevity of the scent. It doesn't last very long on the body or clothes, which makes it a bit inconvenient." Another said: "I understand that everybody has personal preference for fragrances but I dislike it so much. It is way too sweet and every single time I tried to use it ended up in a migraine!" And, another critic asked: "What has happened to this Euphoria perfume? It has no lasting scent. It used to be an intense perfume with a lovely lasting smell - now it smells cheap!" However, the majority of reviews were overwhelmingly positive. Another customer shared: "A mature scent. It lasts a long time and the packaging is very classy! I use it for formal occasions or for occasions that I want to smell more mysterious." One more reviewer declared: "Can't resist it's aroma.. People can detect you even before you enter the area."
