Legendary Metal Drummer Reveals a Broken Stick Led to Total Freak Injury
One of the biggest metal bands in recent history is Mastodon. Since forming twenty-five years ago, the band (comprising of vocalist/bassist Troy Sanders, guitarist Bill Kelliher, vocalist/drummer Brann Dailor, and former guitarist Brent Hinds) has brought down the thunder with landmark albums such as Leviathan, Blood Mountain, and Crack the Skye. But sometimes, when you rock too hard, you get injured. Such was the case for Mastodon's drummer, who ended up bloody after a freak accident. 'You ever get a giant splinter in your head?' asked Mastodon on May 28 when sharing a video of Dailor explaining what happened. 'A stick broke on a cymbal in the middle of 'More Than I Can Chew,'' the drummer said, referring to a song from their most recent album, Hushed and Grim. 'It broke in this perfect fashion where it created a little shard,' he explained. Cue a close-up of the 'shard' that is on his head. 'The pointy part of it stuck in my forehead [and] it was just dangling there,' he said. 'So while I was singing and playing, I got up and batted it out, so I started bleeding a little bit.' Fans had a pretty much the same reaction in the comments section: 'This is just about as metal as it gets.' 'He looked like Alice Cooper with this blood coming down his face,' said one fan, who thought the blood mimicked the shock rocker's iconic makeup. Others were concerned over how close the splinter got to his eye. '[That] could have been really bad,' said one fan. 'Thank god it wasn't in your eye,' said another. Mastodon is currently wrapping up its tour with Coheed and Cambria and Periphery. The band is currently in need of a new guitarist after Brent Hinds, who co-founded the group in 2000, left the band in March. Missing Lockport attorney located in Niagara Falls
A missing Lockport attorney was located by Niagara County Sheriff's deputies at a Niagara Falls department store on Saturday afternoon. Deputies were called to the store about 3:30 p.m. Saturday to interview Scott Stopa. A release from the sheriff's office about half an hour later said it was determined he was safe. Family members had reported Stopa had not been seen or heard from since Tuesday. 'Our family is extremely concerned for his safety and well-being,' Stopa's sister Jenny told the Gazette Thursday night. 'No one's heard from him and his phone is at his home.' Stopa is a partner at Ben & Stopa Attorneys-at-Law on East Avenue in Lockport. He lives in the Town of Cambria. Stopa's online profile indicates that his legal practice is 'family-law focused.' The profile says Stopa 'represents clients in divorce, custody, paternity, and guardianship proceedings.' He is also described as a 'court-certified' child guardian. Filicetti said Thursday members of his office's Criminal Investigation Bureau had been working on Stopa's disappearance since the missing person's report was first filed.

Welsh College Launches New HE Programmes in Partnership with UK's Largest Awarding Body
Leading-edge new higher education programmes have been unveiled by Coleg Cambria. The college – based in Deeside, Northop, Llysfasi and Wrexham – launched a raft of courses to begin this September in partnership with Pearson learning group, the UK's largest awarding body. They include Hospitality, Digital Marketing and Enterprise, and Esports. It comes after Cambria designed a Higher Technical Skills Strategy to enhance access and participation, encourage curriculum development and innovation, and forge partnerships within multiple industries to plug gaps in expertise and experience regionally. Cambria's Dean of Access and Higher Education (HE) Emma Hurst said: 'These new higher education qualifications have been carefully developed in collaboration with industry leaders to ensure graduates are equipped with the practical skills and knowledge employers are looking for. 'By aligning academic learning with real-world demands, we're empowering students to be job-ready, innovative, and at the forefront of their sectors, supporting not only their immediate career progression but also opening doors to promotion and new professional opportunities.' HE Partnerships and Compliance Manager Donna Pritchard said they will also continue to promote Digital 2030 – digital skills, confidence and innovation in teaching and learning; equipping learners so they can use rapidly evolving technologies to their full potential, including Artificial Intelligence (AI). 'We want Higher Technical Skills to become a priority within employer advisory boards and inform curriculum development and co-creation, ensuring programmes are tailored to meet the evolving demands of the local labour market,' said Donna. 'Our vision is to remove barriers to education and help upskill in areas of demand whilst targeting pivotal issues such as the Welsh language, sustainability and net zero – we are successfully working towards that with Pearson and other stakeholders.'
