Boston Red Sox Manager Misses Game to Attend Daughter's Graduation and People Have Opinions

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora missed the May 19th game of the Red Sox versus New York Mets at Fenway Park so he could attend and celebrate his daughter's graduation from college. His daughter, Camila, graduated from Boston College. (Congrats, Camila!) Folks were mad. Perhaps it's the die-hard baseball fans who are peeved, but the Red Sox did end up winning the game 3 to 1 so maybe they chilled out? What some saw as an issue was that the graduation was in the morning and the game started at 6:45 p.m. Related: Tom Cruise Sparks Rumors About His Relationship With His Children After Awkward Father's Day Comment Cora responded the criticism saying that he "made the best decision for my daughter" and that his "purpose" in life is to "raise her" and "do the best we can." When reporters asked if he could have rushed away from the graduation festivities to make it to the game he said, "No." It's clear he wanted to be fully present for his daughter's amazing day to celebrate her accomplishments. The guy deserves a day off of work to be with his family. It's interesting that a dad is being dragged for this — though some are also praising his decision. Would a mom be criticized for missing work for her kid's graduation? Or would the opposite be true? Related: Female Quotient's post had some great comments. "We have really dipped low as a society when we question why a parent would rather be with their child during a momentous moment in their life than go to work," one person shared. "Wouldn't it be more questionable if he missed his daughters grad for a game?!" another added. "Your kid only graduates from college for the first time once. This wasn't the World Series, or even playoffs. Even then, that's your kid. Kudos to Alex Cora for putting family first," shared another. Instead of picking apart every critique, Cora said, "For those who don't understand, I'm not gonna try to convince them. I made the best decision for my girl." That's good parenting. Boston Red Sox manager addresses criticism after missing game for daughter's graduation

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora is defending himself for missing one of the team's games to attend his daughter's college graduation. Cora skipped Monday's game between the Red Sox and the New York Mets at Boston's Fenway Park in order to watch his daughter, Camila, participate in a graduation ceremony at Boston College. 'I made the best decision for my daughter, and for those who don't understand, I'm not gonna try to convince them,' Cora told reporters on Tuesday in a video NBC Sports Boston shared on TikTok. Cora came under fire in local media for skipping the game, which the Red Sox won 3-1. Mike Felger, a popular radio personality at 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston, slammed Cora's decision, noting that Boston College's graduation ceremony took place in the morning while the Red Sox game started at 6:45 p.m. 'They were, I believe, done by noon, which means you can have a nice big party in the middle of the day,' Felger said, according to the Boston Herald. 'Just cab down the street and manage the game.' 'It's just the leadership and optics of the whole thing,' Felger added. 'It's a very easy chance for him to say, 'Nothing's more important than tonight's game.'' In NBC Sports Boston's video from the follow-up press conference, Cora could be seen shaking his head in disagreement as one reporter suggested he could have 'rushed out' of his daughter's graduation to attend the game. '(Camila) wanted me to be with her and it was her day so this is secondary,' Cora responded. 'You know, we're in this world for a purpose, right, and for me, it's to raise her, try to do the best we can. Obviously it wasn't perfect, but right now, it's perfect,' he said. 'I wasn't going to miss it,' he later added. Cora later laughed after another reporter asked him if he was bothered by the criticism. 'People have their own opinions,' Cora replied. 'I bet those people, they have families too. And at one point, they had to make decisions, too. And I bet they made decisions for the best of the family.' Sports fans applauded Cora's decision to prioritize his child in the comments section of NBC Sports Boston's video. 'There are 162 games in the baseball season for some reason. His daughter graduates once,' one wrote. 'He's a father first,' another fan wrote in support. 'Who in their right mind is arguing against this?' asked someone else. Cora posted a photo on Instagram that showed more than a dozen family members celebrating Camila at her graduation on Monday. He wrote in his caption, #FamiliaEsFamilia, or #FamilyIsFamily. 'No need to elaborate,' he added.

Why Boston Red Sox' Alex Cora won't manage Monday, ‘a very special day'

BOSTON — Manager Alex Cora will skip the Red Sox' game Monday to attend his daughter Camila Cora's graduation from Boston College. Bench coach Ramón Vázquez will serve as manager when Boston opens a three-game series against the Mets here at Fenway Park. Advertisement Camila is graduating from BC's Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. She will attend the University of Miami, her dad's alma mater, for graduate school. 'It went really fast,' Alex Cora said before Boston's series finale against the Braves on Sunday. 'And for a girl from divorced parents, her mom (Nilda) did an amazing job staying the course. And while I was playing and coaching and doing my ESPN thing, Nilda was amazing with her. And she's actually a reflection of her. And I appreciate everything that she's done for her and for us.' Cora said his partner Angelica also shares a strong relationship with Camila. 'Angelica has become like a mentor to her, too," Cora said. 'They're very close. And the fact that we were here while she was going through college, it meant a lot. And it's gonna be a very special day — one that I'm not gonna miss. And I will 100% miss the game for that. And I'll do that any given day because it's gonna be a special day for us.' Advertisement As a high schooler, Camila celebrated the Red Sox' 2018 World Series title with her dad on the field at Dodger Stadium. As a student at BC, she celebrated Boston's ALDS Game 4 clinching victory against the Rays here at Fenway. 'We're excited,' Cora said. 'Amazing. It happened fast, man. You put everything in perspective and you go back to the videos from '18, she's a little girl. She was a little girl. And then in '21 when she hopped to the field when we beat Tampa, she was still a little girl. Now she's not a little girl. She's a woman. She has fun with it. She's been a great student and the future is bright for her and we're very proud of her." More Red Sox coverage Read the original article on MassLive.

Camila, 27, celebrated the music video director's 29th birthday with a series of snaps shared to her Instagram Story May 14. In one pic, she playfully squeezed a shirtless Cole's cheeks, making his lips pursed while he stared into the camera. She captioned the photo simply, 'Happy birthday baby.'
