Betway Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs have started to announce player exits ahead of a highly pressured transfer window. On Thursday, the club known as Amakhosi said goodbye to the 25-year-old midfielder Sabelo Radebe. Meanwhile, the club is expected to release five more players: George Matlou, Ranga Chivaviro, Fiacre Ntwari, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Tashreeq Morris and Tebogo Potsane, all due to limited impact in coach Nasreddine Nabi's team last season. Good news for Kaizer Chiefs? Cape Town Spurs' neighbours, Stellenbosch FC, are seemingly skipping the chance to sign Asanele Velebayi. A lack of heroes on the pitch has seen Cape football lose its soul

Thulani Serero's demise is the embodiment of Cape football's fall from grace. Picture: BackpagePix Image: BackpagePix There was a phrase in the 1980s that went something like this: If Maties rugby is healthy, so is Western Province rugby and subsequently, so too, the Springboks. It never quite transcended to football, but considering the last Bafana Bafana team to win AFCON back in 1996 boasted stalwarts such as Mark Williams, Shaun Bartlett, Andre Arendse and Andrew Tucker, who all hailed from the Cape, there is a discussion to be had. And it just so happens that Bafana are currently enjoying their most successful period since the heady days of '96 whilst Stellenbosch FC are fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in the Betway Premiership. However, Stellies' success should not mask the degeneration of professional football in the Mother City. Video Player is loading. Equally, Cape Town City's anxious wait to see whether they will be involved in the PSL promotion/relegation play-offs is another catastrophe. A major city such as Cape Town cannot afford not to have a professional club in the elite division. It is integral for the youth to have a home team they have aspirations of representing one day. And it is here where I am going to borrow some golden nuggets from my former colleague, the Cape Argus football scribe and retired professional Rodney Reiners. There are few who loved and devoted their lives to Cape football like Reiners. And his passion for it was often expressed here, as he regaled us with stories from the 1970s, 80s and 90s, particularly his affection for the original Cape Town Spurs and his beloved Santos. Barker confirms signing Kaizer Chiefs target

As reported last week, the Kaizer Chiefs target, Muzomuhle Khanyi, has moved south instead of going to Naturena. 18 goals as the top goalscorer in the Motsepe Foundation Championship was always going to guarantee a move to the Betway Premiership. As per iDiski Times last week, Stellenbosch FC won the race to sign Kaizer Chiefs target Khanyi. The Gauteng-born attacker started his career at Bidvest Wits juniors before a decade in the National First Division. He played for Cape Umoya, Platinum City and Hungry Lions. 'The Golden Boot winner of the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship, Muzomuhle Khanyi, is set to join Stellenbosch FC ahead of the new season,' the outlet said. Image: @footballstage/X 'Khanyi, 26, has been in sublime form with Hungry Lions, scoring 18 league goals in 22 starts for the second-tier outfit, which naturally attracted attention from several top-flight clubs,' the outlet said. STEVE BARKER CONFIRMS THE NEWS In the meantime, Stellies coach Barker has confirmed the club have indeed signed Khanyi as well as Siviwe Nkwali from Cape Town Spurs. 'We are a team that is proactive. You may have seen in the news recently, we have already signed [Siviwe] Nkwali from Cape Town Spurs and Muzi [Muzomuhle Khanyi] from Hungry Lions,' Barker said to FARPost .
