Cardi B Sued For Throwing Microphone At Fan During Las Vegas Concert In 2023

Last Updated: Cardi B is facing a lawsuit from a woman who claims the rapper threw a microphone at her during a 2023 Las Vegas performance. Rapper Cardi B is facing a lawsuit after allegedly injuring a fan by throwing a microphone at her during a live show in Las Vegas in July 2023. The incident occurred at a beach club, where the artist was performing in extremely hot weather. A video from the event quickly went viral online. According to Billboard, the fan, who is going by the name Jane Doe in legal papers, says Cardi B had asked the audience to splash her with water to cool her down. Jane Doe claims she followed this request and gently tossed her drink toward the stage, something several others in the crowd were also doing. What the Lawsuit Says But things took a turn when Cardi B allegedly threw her microphone at the woman in response. The lawsuit says Cardi's reaction was unexpected and violent. 'Multiple attendees responded in kind, throwing drinks toward the stage, several of which visibly reached Cardi B and the surrounding performance area," the lawsuit states as quoted by Hindustan Times. 'Plaintiff, acting by the environment created by Cardi B's express words and conduct, and in a manner consistent with other attendees, splashed a small portion of her drink in Cardi B's direction. In apparent anger and without warning, Cardi B suddenly and forcefully threw her microphone directly at the plaintiff," the complaint adds. The woman says the mic hit her and caused physical injuries. She also says she suffered emotional distress and was harassed online after the clip went viral. Her condition worsened when the microphone was later auctioned for $99,000 (approximately Rs 85 lakh). Jane Doe is also suing the Las Vegas beach club where the performance took place. She claims the staff failed to keep the crowd safe and should have known Cardi might act out, especially since the lawsuit says she had thrown a mic at a DJ just one day earlier at the same location. 'What has been written off as a joke by many people is a traumatic experience that has significantly impacted my well-being and quality of life," Jane said in a public statement as quoted by Hindustan Times. 'I'm seeking justice in the hopes of holding Cardi B accountable for her misdeeds, as no celebrity is above the law," she added in her statement. Her lawyer, Cierra N. Norris, is expected to hold a press conference in Las Vegas. Reportedly, Jane Doe has chosen to stay anonymous due to ongoing mental health struggles and fear of public backlash. Cardi B's Team Responds Cardi B's lawyer, Drew Findling, has denied all claims, calling the lawsuit a money grab. 'The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney's Office closed this matter for insufficient evidence a long time ago, but the opportunity to try to make money off of a celebrity was too much for some willing law firm to pass up," he said. The lawsuit also notes that the microphone was later auctioned for nearly $100,000 (over R1.7 million), which Doe claims further worsened her emotional distress.

The plaintiff, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, filed a complaint this week alleging assault, battery, and negligence against the Grammy-winning rapper. According to the lawsuit, the incident took place at Drai's Beachclub, located at The Cromwell hotel, during a daytime party. The plaintiff claims that Cardi B (born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar) encouraged the crowd to throw water on her due to extreme heat. The lawsuit states that Cardi 'verbally requested that the audience splash her with water.' However, after a member of the audience threw a cup containing liquid and ice toward the stage, the artist allegedly responded by throwing her micorophone, causing the audience member 'severe emotional distress, shock, humiliation, and physical injury.' Video footage of the incident circulated widely online at the time, showing Cardi B reacting after being splashed during her performance. The video shows a fan right at the front of the crowd throwing a beer at the rapper, and after a short, shocked pause, Cardi hit back. She hurled the microphone into the crowd and then appeared visibly shaken and furious as the backing track continued without her. Security can be seen reacting as Cardi attempted to regain her composure on stage, flicking her hair off her face. Cardi B was investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2023 in connection with the same incident. However, following that inquiry, authorities declined to pursue criminal charges: This afternoon we were notified by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept. that as a result of their investigation, there will be NO charges against Cardi,' attorneys Drew Findling, David Chesnoff, and Richard Schonfeld said in a joint statement to TMZ at the time. 'On behalf of Cardi, we appreciate the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept's diligent and prompt resolution of this matter.' More Trending Despite the conclusion of the criminal investigation, the civil suit – filed two years after the event – now brings the matter back into the spotlight. The plaintiff's attorney, Cierra N. Norris, is expected to hold a press conference in Las Vegas on Thursday to discuss the case. As of now, Cardi B has not publicly responded to the lawsuit. Cardi isn't the only celebrity to have faced the rising trend, which sees audience members launch items on stage to hit whoever they came to see – something that left Bebe Rexha battered and bruised, and Harry Styles doubled over in pain. Cardi B sued for assault and battery after the mic-throwing incident in 2023

American singer Cardi B is facing a lawsuit for allegedly injuring a woman by throwing a microphone at her during a 2023 performance at a beach club in Las Vegas. According to report in billboard, the woman, who has filed under the pseudonym Jane Doe, is accusing the rapper of assault, battery, negligence, and emotional distress stemming from the incident. Cardi B is being sued for assault, batter and negligence The altercation occurred in July 2023, when Cardi was performing in sweltering heat. In viral footage from the day party, Cardi appeared to ask fans to toss water on her to cool her down. According to a report in Billboard, Jane Doe claims she followed this prompt, lightly splashing her drink toward the rapper — something multiple audience members were reportedly doing. But Cardi's reaction, according to Doe, was both sudden and violent. 'Multiple attendees responded in kind, throwing drinks toward the stage, several of which visibly reached Cardi B and the surrounding performance area,' her lawyers wrote in the lawsuit filed on Monday, as per the report. 'Plaintiff, acting in accordance with the environment created by Cardi B's express words and conduct, and in a manner consistent with other attendees, splashed a small portion of her drink in Cardi B's direction. In apparent anger and without warning, Cardi B suddenly and forcefully threw her microphone directly at plaintiff,' the complaint read further. According to the complaint, the microphone struck the woman, allegedly causing both physical harm and deep emotional trauma. Jane said she faced online harassment and personal embarrassment after the incident went viral. Her distress, she claims, was worsened when the microphone was auctioned for $99,000 online shortly after the show. The woman is also suing the beach club in Las Vegas for negligence, saying the venue failed to take reasonable precautions or step in when things escalated. She also alleged security staff should have been aware of Cardi's volatile behaviour — especially since, according to the suit, the rapper had thrown a mic at a DJ the night before at the same location. 'What has been written off as a joke by many people is actually a traumatic experience that has significantly impacted my well-being and quality of life. I'm seeking justice in the hopes of holding Cardi B accountable for her misdeeds, as no celebrity is above the law,' the woman said in a public statement. '.' Her lawyer, Cierra N. Norris, is expected to hold a press conference in Las Vegas today. Reps say the woman is choosing anonymity because she is suffering mental health issues from the incident and fears public backlash. Meanwhile, Cardi's legal team is dismissing the case. Her attorney, Drew Findling, called the suit a 'transparent and pitiful attempted financial shakedown.' 'The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney's Office closed this matter for insufficient evidence a long time ago, but apparently the opportunity to try to make money off of a celebrity was too much for some willing law firm to pass up,' Findling said.
