Over $1 million of cocaine found in single seizure at Texas border

U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized 77 lbs. of cocaine worth more than $1 million at a port of entry in Texas, officials said. The seizure occurred on Saturday when Office of Field Operations officers at Hidalgo Port of Entry in Texas referred a 2020 2020 Renault Oroch for a secondary inspection, according to a statement from CBP released on Monday. 'A canine inspection resulted in an alert and a nonintrusive imaging system scan revealed anomalies within the vehicle,' officials said. 'Upon closer physical examination, CBP officers discovered 30 packages containing a total of 34.90 kilograms (76.94 lbs.) of alleged cocaine hidden within the vehicle.' Authorities said the narcotics had an estimated street value of $1,027,316. 'This substantial cocaine seizure reflects the strong dedication of our officers to safeguarding the border, as well as their skillful use of experience and technology,' said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo Port of Entry. The narcotics and the vehicle were both seized, and Homeland Security Investigations special agents initiated a criminal investigation.

More misery for Ineos as Rodriguez quits Tour with broken pelvis

INEOS' TOP-RANKED rider Carlos Rodriguez pulled out of the Tour de France on Thursday after suffering a broken pelvis on Stage 17′s late mass pile-up. In 10th position going into the rainy flat stage the Spanish climb specialist became entangled in a spectacular pile-up of flying bikes and bodies on the home straight at Valence on Wednesday. Rodriguez was one place behind Ireland's Ben Healy in the general classification. Advertisement 'Carlos is in good spirits and remains under the close supervision of our medical team. He will now return home to focus on recovery,' Ineos said. 💥 El enganchón en el que se han visto implicados Carlos Rodríguez y Julian Alaphilippe.@TDF2025 — (@Eurosport_ES) July 23, 2025 Rodriguez, 24, would have been an outside contender for a stage win in the Alps over the next two days of daunting climbing to Col de La Loze, and La Plagne. Ineos lost former time trial world champion Filippo Ganna to concussion on stage 1 at Lille. The team did however score a prestige stage win when Dutch rider Thymen Arensman climbed to a solo triumph on the Tourmalet mountain in the Pyrenees on Saturday. At 2,304 metres of altitude, La Loze is the highest summit in this year's Tour. Two years ago, Jonas Vingegaard dropped Pogačar there on his way to his second Tour title. Vingegaard has been second best to Pogačar this year, lagging four minutes and 15 seconds behind his rival overall. ___ The Associated Press
