Brewers Pitching Prospect Undergoes MRI After Scary Injury

Brewers Pitching Prospect Undergoes MRI After Scary Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Milwaukee Brewers have already dealt with a significant amount of pitching injuries in the 2025 season. While the group overall has gotten healthier and the starting pitching depth is looking much stronger, now the Brewers might be losing one of their key depth pieces. Advertisement Carlos Rodriguez was called up during the last road trip and got the win last Thursday against the Pirates. In that game, Rodriguez came in relief, then sat through a two hour rain delay and still went back out on the mound after the delay. Then, after being optioned back to the minors, Rodriguez exited his start for Triple-A Nashville yesterday with an arm injury He's now reportedly undergoing medical testing and dealing with forearm discomfort, per MLB's Adam McCalvy. © Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images In Rodriguez's start for Nashville, his fastball velocity was below the usual range and he struggled to get outs. After the trainers noticed a problem, Rodriguez was removed from the game. Advertisement The news of a forearm issue is never a good sign for pitchers. Instantly, fears go to a major elbow reconstruction, but that's not yet been confirmed. It very well could be somewhat minor. The imaging that Rodriguez is undergoing will give team doctors the information needed to fully diagnose what his injury is. Regardless, even in a best case scenario, Rodriguez is going to be on the shelf for a little bit to let his forearm improve as the Brewers will certainly want to be cautious when a pitcher has such an injury. It's a blow to the depth of the Brewers starting pitching and potentially a terrible blow to Rodriguez. The 23 year old has been in the midst of a resurgent year, posting a 1.99 ERA in Triple-A prior to last night's outing that raised it to 2.64. He earned himself a big league call up again after struggling in the majors last year. It looked like Rodriguez had finally figured things out. Just as the Brewers were looking healthy on the pitching front, one of their top Triple-A arms is dealing with a forearm injury that can be very scary. Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby off injured list and send reliever Carlos Rodriguez to Triple-A

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Left-hander Aaron Ashby was activated from the 15-day injured list by Milwaukee on Friday before a game against Pittsburgh and was expected to be used by the Brewers in long relief. Ashby, who turns 27 on Saturday, had been sidelined side spring training by a strained right oblique. He pitched a scoreless inning at Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday in an injury rehabilitation assignment. He went 1-2 with a 2.86 ERA in 14 appearances with last year for Milwaukee. Reliever Carlos Rodriguez was optioned to Nashville, a day after getting his first major league win by pitching 3 1/3 innings during an 8-5 win over Pittsburgh. ___ AP MLB:

Christian Yelich blasts 2 homers as Brewers top Pirates

May 23 - Christian Yelich hit a pair of home runs and finished with four RBIs to help the Milwaukee Brewers open a four-game series with an 8-5 win over the host Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday night. Yelich's three-run blast in the first inning off Pirates rookie starter Mike Burrows (0-1) set the tone for the Brewers' fourth win in their past five games. Burrows, who made his first career major league start and season debut, allowed four runs on four hits (two home runs) and two walks while striking out three over five innings. Yelich would deliver his second homer -- a 415-foot, solo blast to right-center field off reliever Isaac Mattson -- in the sixth inning to extend Milwaukee's lead to 5-2. The game was delayed in the bottom of the sixth for an hour and 50 minutes. Just before the delay, the Pirates put a scoring threat together with two outs when Isiah Kiner-Falefa doubled and then scored on a double by Oneil Cruz. Brewers rookie Carlos Rodriguez (1-0) made his season debut, and walked Andrew McCutchen, putting runners at the corners before the game was halted. Rodriguez returned to the mound after the delay and struck out Bryan Reynolds to end Pittsburgh's threat. Rodriguez was called up from Triple-A Nashville as expected on Thursday, but did not start. He pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief in his season debut, and allowed three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two. Rodriguez exited in the ninth after walking Cruz and McCutchen and allowing an RBI double to Reynolds. Trevor Megill relieved Rodriguez and proceeded to get three quick outs. Aaron Civale (hamstring), who was activated Thursday from the injured list, made the start and pitched four innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three. Spencer Horwitz led Pittsburgh with two hits, including a leadoff home run in the fourth off Civale. The Pirates avoided setting a major league record with what would have been their 27th consecutive game scoring four runs or fewer when Horwitz grounded out but drove in McCutchen for their fifth run in the ninth inning. Megill picked up his eighth save of the season when Ke'Bryan Hayes lined out to second. Milwaukee made corresponding moves after its pitcher callups, optioning pitcher Easton McGee to Triple-A Nashville and designating right-hander Joel Payamps for assignment. --Field Level Media

Yelich homers twice and the Brewers hold off the Pirates 8-5 after a long rain delay

Christian Yelich homered twice and the Milwaukee Brewers breezed past the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5 in a game interrupted by rain Thursday night. Yelich hit a three-run drive against rookie Mike Burrows (0-1) in the first inning and a solo shot off reliever Isaac Mattson in the sixth for the 11th multi-homer game of his career. Joey Ortiz added his second home run this season for the Brewers. Sal Frelick provided some breathing room with a late two-run single. Carlos Rodriguez (1-0) struck out Bryan Reynolds with two on and two out in the sixth following a rain delay of 1 hour, 50 minutes, to earn his first major league victory. Trevor Megill came on with two on and no outs in the ninth to secure his eighth save. Milwaukee's Aaron Civale gave up two runs and four hits over four innings in his first start since going to the injured list in late March with a strained hamstring. Spencer Horwitz had two hits for the Pirates, including a solo shot to right-center leading off the fourth for his first home run since being acquired by Pittsburgh in the offseason. Horwitz added an RBI groundout in the ninth to help the Pirates avoid making a bit of unwanted history. Pittsburgh had gone 26 games without scoring at least five runs, tying the team with four others for the longest such streak of futility in MLB history. Burrows, called up Wednesday after Pittsburgh sent struggling Carmen Mlodzinski to Triple-A Indianapolis, had some early jitters. The 25-year-old right-hander gave up four runs during his first trip through the Brewers' order before retiring nine of the final 11 batters he faced. Rodriguez surprisingly stayed on the hill after the long delay. He promptly fanned Reynolds at the end of a seven-pitch at-bat to end Pittsburgh's last legitimate threat. April 23 — the previous time Pittsburgh scored at least five runs in a game. The Pirates went 8-18 during their run of futility at the plate. The series continues Friday when Pittsburgh ace Paul Skenes (3-5, 2.44 ERA) — who won't be traded anytime soon — faces Milwaukee's Freddy Peralta (5-3, 2.59). ___ AP MLB:
